Do Air Fryers Make Food Crispy

Yes, the air fryer does make food nice and crispy. I would say its the number #1 reason why most people buy an air fryer. I know its the reason why I did.

Back in 2011 I bought an air fryer because I wanted chips but without the deep fat fryer calories. Our air fryer chips soon became our thing and they were so crispy and yummy.

That same rule can apply to this potato wedges air fryer recipe or even things like a KFC zinger burger, air fryer KFC chicken, air fryer frozen chicken nuggets and so many more recipes.

What Is The Best Potato To Use For Wedges

The best potatoes for wedges are Russets.

Russets cook faster and crisp up better than other potatoes. As stated earlier, potatoes are on the dirty dozen list of produce with the most pesticide residue, so organic is the best option.

Other potatoes such as Yukon Gold, Yellow, White, and Red will work too, however, Russet potatoes tend to give a crispier end result while maintaining a waxy interior.

If you opt to use another type of potato the cooking time to get them crispy may be longer, but they should still be tasty.

Air Fry: Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray and add enough potatoes that you can spread them apart without touching . Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Cook for 10-15 minutes, opening the basket every 5 minutes to give them a shake/toss, until tender and crispy.

Yes, they are. Whilst we often think of potato wedges as being the unhealthy potato side dish we buy from KFC or Pizza Hut, cooked in the air fryer they are much healthier.

That is because fresh potato wedges in the air fryer are just using white potatoes, a tiny quantity of extra virgin olive oil and seasoning. There is no deep fat fryers involved or processed ingredients.

Having some leftovers to heat up is super convenient when you’re short on time.

To reheat the refrigerated or frozen potato wedges, I think the best way to bring back the crispiness is by tossing them back in the air fryer.

Seasoning For Potato Wedges

The potato wedges are seasoned with a combination of herbs and spices that gives them an amazing flavor. They taste absolutely delicious! The spices and herbs I used in this potato wedges seasoning are paprika, parsley, dried thyme, garlic powder, onion granules, black pepper, and salt.

I also just sometimes use my homemade potato seasoning for making potatoes wedges. You can use other seasonings like Italian seasoning, and vegetable seasoning.

Seasoning potato wedges before air frying them is easy and quick. After cutting the potatoes into wedges and soaking them, pat them dry with paper towels, add the potatoes, seasoning, and oil into a bowl and mix till well combined and the potatoes are evenly coated in the seasoning.

Do You Need To Soak Potatoes Before Making Wedges

Some recipes advise soaking the potato wedges before air frying them personally, I dont do this step but I do like to give them a good rinse in cold water to wash away some of the starch. This helps the wedges to crisp up a little bit more, but its not essential.

If you do choose to soak them, leave them in water for about 30 minutes before draining and patting them dry with some kitchen roll.

Is Our Garlic Mayo Sauce An Aoli

A classic Aioli is typically made up of an emulsion of egg yolk, oil, lemon juice, and your preferred flavoring agent. All three of which happen to be found in your average mayonnaise.

The only differences being the ratio of ingredients used, and that mayonnaise would have more subtle flavoring agents such as Dijon Mustard. Following this definition, our Garlic Mayo Sauce would indeed qualify as an Aioli.

Having a green taste of mashed garlic and virgin olive oil, Aioli is a much older condiment than mayonnaise and a unique condiment in its own right.

You can use it as a sauce , a dip, or garnish for a variety of foods, and it is not heated or cooked.

Have you tried russets baked potatoes? If you have, you get why my personal first choice for baked potatoes are usually Russets. They always come out well baked with crispy edges and fluffy soft insides.

They also cook faster than waxy potatoes like red potatoes and yellow potatoes which I have also used to make air fryer potatoes. Other alternatives Ive used besides the red potatoes and yellow potatoes are Yukon gold potatoes. If you want really crispy potatoes Id suggest either Russets or Yukon gold.

Air Fryer Potato Wedges Fork Test

When making potato wedges in an air fryer, I recommend what I call the fork test. The fork test is a great way to check if your potato wedges are cooked or not. Because some air fryers work differently to others, I recommend this as a general guide for getting the cook time right.

Then if you do the fork test and they are not fork tender then you can add a couple of extra minutes before increasing the temperature to make your potato wedges crispy.
