These can easily be cooked in the air fryer. There is no need for lots of oil, its easy to make these with some cooking oil spray, we prefer olive oil cooking spray. I also like to add some garlic salt to our fries too.

Once you have your fries of choice, simply spray the air fryer basket with olive oil cooking spray and add the fries to the basket. These are best spread out evenly, I usually do layer a bit but you will get the best result with one even layer.

It also works the best to mix them or shake them up about halfway through the cooking time.

How To Reheat Fries In An Air Fryer

If you have leftovers , store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. The fries will get dry and soggy in the fridge so I recommend eating them as soon as possible.

To reheat fries in the air fryer, Place them in a preheated basket and mist with additional oil.Air fry for 2-3 minutes or until crisp.

I actually use this same method to reheat any leftover fry! Before my air fryer, I never took home fries because they didnt reheat well. Fries reheated in the air fryer taste much better than microwaved fries. Life changing!

Is It Healthier To Use An Air Fryer Than A Deep Fryer For My French Fries

Yes, it is a lot healthier to use an air fryer instead of a deep fryer. This is because you use a small fraction of the oil that a deep fryer uses.

One thing to watch out for, if you are concerned about fat or calories, then you want to check the bag. Frozen fries often have at least some oil in them already, so you will want to look for ones with the lowest fat/calorie count out of the bag.

The Best Way To Make Crispy French Fries

Okay, can we talk for a minute about potatoes? If theres anything in this world that inspires me to try new things, its gotta be the humble potato. Theres nothing potatoes cant do or be!

Kidding, of course. But still, from soup to gnocchi to mash to salad to chips to VODKA!, potatoes are basically the can-do, little-engine-that-could of the vegetable world. And, above all, lets not forget french fries!

Yes, my favorite version of potato goodness might just be classic seasoned fries! Golden-brown and crispy on the outside, soft and steamy on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoned salt, theyre like the best addictive chips and the most nourishing baked potato, all in one. And, let me tell you, when I make fries at home, they disappear within minutes. Seriously, you have to grab them, or theyre gone!

For a long time, I was fairly happy with baking my fries, but since I got my Air Fryer, I am obsessed with how perfectly they turn out in there! While you can make your own fries from scratch, on a busy day or night, I like to just toss in a bag of good ol Ore Ida fries. Easy. Peasy.

What Temperature Do I Deep Fry Fries

How to make frozen french fries in an air fryer | Air fryer recipe for crinkle cut fries

Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature is correct: 325 degrees for French fries, 375 degrees for shoestring and basket-weave fries. Carefully add potatoes to oil in small batches so as not to lower the temperature of the oil. Cook shoestring and basket-weave potatoes for 2 to 3 minutes, turning occasionally.

How Do You Cook Frozen French Fries In Air Fryer

Before we dive into the cook-time for frozen French fries, lets take a look at how to properly cook them in your air fryer.

As with every air fryer recipe, you want to make sure that you preheat your air fryer before cooking. For frozen French fries, preheat your air fryer to 400°. If you have an air fryer model that doesnt need to be preheated you can skip this step.

Once preheated, spritz the air fryer basket with a tiny bit of oil to prevent sticking. Add in your frozen French fries the amount you can fit in your fryer will vary depending on your model, but in general, try not to overfill this will require more cook-time.

Depending on your model, cook your fries at 400° on the French fry or frozen setting for 15 minutes. Pause and shake your basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.

Once the 15 minutes are up, check your fries and cook for an additional 5 minutes if necessary to achieve your desired crispness. Season your fries while warm. Enjoy!

The Problem With Frozen French Fries

In the Before Times , Id do what any normal person did back then, spreading frozen fries on a baking sheet and letting them bake for however long I had until I got too hungry to wait any longer.

Every once in a while, a unicorn would appear: perfectly golden fries that were tender on the inside and somehow required a cook time I could live with at the moment.

But more often than not, there were problems.

Generally speaking, I find the cook time is too darn long when baking frozen fries.

Also the results are spotty.

Im a fan of slightly browner and slightly crispier fries, and baking them in the oven always meant a fine balance between being too squishy and too crispy.

And then, of course, there was the stuck to the pan factor.

In my experience, unless you use enough oil to keep them loose, theyd stick to the baking sheet, and youd have to really work to get the fries loose, and then clean them. This is both annoying and unhealthy .

While you can use the oven or even a deep fryer, there’s a better option: the air fryer. There are a few big reasons why you should use the air fryer to heat up frozen french fries.

  • Crispier results: “You’ll get crispier results than baking fries thanks to the convection,” says Breville product expert, Karen Diep.
  • Less oil and mess than frying: Many frozen fry brands include instructions for deep frying. While it guarantees crispiness, it can make a real mess and requires a lot of oil. “Air frying is a great alternative to getting crispier fries without the excessive fat that comes with deep frying,” says Diep.
