Is Air Fryer Food Healthier

Air Fryer Potatoes | How to Air Fry Potatoes

Traditionally fried foods are not good for us. All those fats and oils, when consumed regularly, can lead to heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes.

However, when you fry food in an air fryer, you still achieve that crispy, crunchy exterior that you get when you fry foods in oil, but with much fewer fat and calories.

Therefore, yes, cooking foods in an air fryer is much, much healthier than submerging them in hot oil. Win, win!

Why Youll Love This Recipe:

  • These air fryer roasted potatoes are soft and fluffy on the inside and addictively crispy on the outside.
  • Theyve got the flavors of garlic and rosemary, and may be changed up using your favorite seasonings or herbs.
  • Theyre an easy side dish thats ready in just 15 minutes!
  • Recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan.

What Is An Air Fryer

Air fryers are small countertop appliances that basically operate akin to a convection ovenexcept in a smaller, more concentrated space. The one that I have been using is the Phillips Viva Air Fryer.

The air is circulated at a high temperature and in an even manner around the food, which makes the food cook more quickly than it otherwise would in a traditional oven and helps give foods a crispy exterior without extra oil or deep-frying.

Because of all these reasons, air fried French fries will taste a bit crispier than those you do in a conventional oven.

My model advised preheating I simply set it to the desired cooking temperature, toggled the timer until it hit 10 to 15 minutes, and set about prepping the ingredients.

When Air Frying Potatoes What Temperature Should You Use

Air fry: Place in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Toss the potatoes back into the basket and cook for another 8-10 minutes, or until cooked and crisp. Preheat an air fryer to 380°F and coat the basket with nonstick cooking spray. Half the potato lengthwise, then slice it into 1/4-inch pieces. Make 1/4-inch sticks out of the slices. Rinse the fries thoroughly with cold water in a medium bowl, then drain and pat dry with paper towels. Reduce the temperature of the air fryer by 25°F to achieve similar results when converting a recipe that calls for deep-frying or cooking in a standard oven. If a recipe asks for deep-frying chicken in 350°F oil, air fry at 325°F instead.

Converting roasting recipes follows the same rule. Rub the potatoes with your hands to ensure that they are equally coated. Cook for 40 to 50 minutes at 400 degrees in the Air Fryer, or until fork-tender.Fully dry them before putting them in the fryer. You can leave them in a basin of water in the fridge all day while you work. I wouldnt bother cooking potatoes without first soaking them. It will take around half an hour, and the texture will not be as satisfying.

Easy Diced Air Fryer Potatoes

Air Fryer Fried Potatoes (Naturally Gluten

These Easy Diced Air Fryer Potatoes are fast and can be served with everything! Crispy, tender, and totally delicious!

Ive been making these Easy Diced Air Fryer Potatoes at least twice a week for the last three months. If you watch my Instagram stories then youve seen it over and over again. What can I say? Once I like something it stays in the dinner rotation for 8-10 years.

Now Im finally dropping the recipe here. If you havent tried these yet, go grab your ingredients and lets do this!

Youll need potatoes, oil, dried parsley, salt, pepper, and chili powder. Thats it! And youre really using so little oil which I love.

The air fryer makes your potatoes beautifully crispy with minimal mess, prep, or oil.

To flavor the potatoes, simply dice them and toss them in a mix of olive oil and seasonings. Be sure to dice them the same size so theyll all cook in the same amount of time.

Then pop them into the air fryer and cook for a total of 20 to 25 minutes. If using a basket style area fryer youll want to give everything a good shake at the halfway mark. This ensures the potatoes settled in the bottom of the basket wont be underdone.

Air Fryer Fried Potatoes And Onions

More time in the kitchen brings about more food experiments! My new kitchen also brought more storage space allowing me to invest in some of the new popular kitchen gadgets, starting with an air fryer. Prior to the air fryer I really was not frying food on the regular. The mess, the popping grease and that smell! Youd smell it for days. An air fryer eliminated those issues so I racked my brain trying to think of what I would make and instantly remembered my mamas fried potatoes! As a child this was one of her go to sides made with red potatoes and yellow onions on the stove top. I took her recipe up a notch and created the Air Fryer Fried Potatoes and Onions. Are Air Fryer Diced Potatoes Gluten Free

Air Fryer Potatoes | fast, easy, and crispy roasted potatoes!

Yes! One of the hardest parts of living gluten free has been the realization that most restaurant potatoes are not safeespecially when a deep fryer is involved.

Some restaurants have dedicated gluten free fryers, but many do not. Cooking my favorite potato recipes at home is the only way to guarantee zero cross-contamination.

Double check the labels on your processed ingredients as always, to be safe, but everything on the ingredient list for this Air Fryer diced potatoes recipe should be gluten-free.

Why This Recipe Works

Easy Making air fryer fried potatoes is super easy! All you have to do is cut your potatoes, coat them in olive oil and seasonings, and pop them into the air fryer basket. Turn the fryer on, let them roast a bit, pull the tray out, shake them around, and let them cook until you get the perfect crispiness. So easy!

Any potatoes I like to use baby gold potatoes in the air fryer, but you can use any potatoes you like or have on hand. I do recommend cutting them down to 1-inch pieces though, no matter which potato you choose. That way, they will all cook evenly.

Make in batches I dont know about you, but I like to eat my potatoes and fries nice and hot and crispy, right out of the fryer. Because the air fryer baskets arent generally super huge, I find it helpful to cook in batches when Im making a lot of air fryer potatoes. That way, we can eat the first round right out of the fryer and then put in more air fryer potatoes that will be ready when everyones ready for seconds.

Simple ingredients Not only are these air fryer fried potatoes easy to make, but they are also simple to make too. No fancy ingredients just potatoes, olive oil, and simple spices you probably have in your spice drawer.

How To Make Crispy Air Fryer Potatoes

  • There is no need to peel the potatoes–the peel is where most of those nutrients live! Just give them a good scrub and dry well.
  • Dice the potatoes into ½ inch to ¾ inch cubes. Be sure the diced potatoes are even in size so that they cook evenly.
  • Toss the potatoes with the oil and seasonings.
  • Spread out evenly into the air fryer basket OR the trays of the air fryer.
  • If using an air fryer with trays, cook for 18-22 minutes. If using an air fryer with a basket, cook for 10 minutes at 400 degrees and remove the basket and give the potatoes a good shake so that they evenly cook. Return the basket to the air fryer and cook for an additional 10 minutes.

Do I Need To Soak The Potatoes Before Air Frying

No! I usually recommend soaking potatoes before putting them in the air fryer, but for this recipe, you do not need to soak the potatoes and youll still get them nice and crispy. Soaking simply removes some of the excess starch from the potatoes which can make them crispier, but while you can soak these if you want, its still not necessary as long as you follow the tips below.

  • Be sure to brush the air fryer basket lightly with olive oil and toss the potatoes with olive oil. This prevents the breakfast potatoes from sticking to the bottom of the air fryer basket when cooking.
  • Do not overlap the breakfast potatoes in the air fryer basket. This will allow for more even cooking so that each and every potato gets nice and crispy.
  • Be sure to pre-heat the air fryer for 2 minutes. Adding the potatoes to a hot air fryer will help with the cooking process and ensure they get nice and crispy.
  • Enjoy the potatoes hot right out of the air fryer. The same as deep-fried potatoes, the longer you wait to enjoy them, the softer and less crispy they become. Enjoy these babies right out of the air fryer for the best texture!

What Kind Of Potatoes To Use

I tried this recipe a couple of times with both Russets and Yukon golds. Both turned out good quality fries, but the Russets are clearly the superior potato for frying, which is my direct opposite preference for roasting potatoes.

The interior of Russet potatoes turns just the way you want ita bit fluffy and softwhereas the exterior stays crispy.

And theyre the right size for fries, too. If you can select them individually rather than buying a bag, Id recommend trying to find the longest ones you cansmaller, more round potatoes are going to make stubby fries that wont permit a whole lot of interaction with ketchup or whatever you condiment of choice happens to be.

You could probably also use red potatoes, but they dont tend to be long enough to turn them into the classic fry shape, so I skipped those for this recipe.

Which Potatoes Are Best For The Air Fryer

Similar to these Roasted Potatoes and Slow Cooker Potato recipes, the potatoes you use in the air fryer matters. Heres what it boils down to:

    • Russets: These will air fry beautifully. They will crisp up wonderfully with a pale golden color. Their insides will be soft and fluffy with a mild flavor. Always a good choice!
    • Yukon Golds or Yellow Potatoes: These are a favorite for air frying because they will crisp up perfectly but also turn a bit deeper golden color because of the lower starch and higher sugar content. Their crisp will be a tad softer than a russets however, their insides will be creamy and full of flavor.
    • Reds: Red potatoes when roasted will turn an even darker golden brown because of their even higher sugar and lower starch content. They will be crispy coming out but soften quickly on the outside. Their insides will be creamy and soft.
    • Baby Potatoes or New Potatoes: These are not a variety or type of potato. They are regular potatoes that have been thinned from the crop early. These potatoes have a high sugar content and roast in the air fryer perfectly as well as hold their shape. Although they can be hard to find in the grocery store as they are somewhat seasonal they are usually a favorite.

Can You Bake A Potato In An Air Fryer

You bet you can. Cooking yukon gold, russet potatoes or sweet potatoes could not be easier or taste better.

In a 6.5 quart air fryer, using your air fryer basket, place four whole, average sized yukon gold, russet potatoes or sweet potatoes. Pierce them several times with a fork and cook for 35 to 40 minutes at 390 degrees.

Youre looking at the exact same general temperature and timing for those potatoes. Works every time.

We used to coat regular sized potatoes with some oil and sprinkle them with salt and pepper before putting them inside the air fryer. Now I no longer feel the need, since my husband didnt notice a difference when the oil wasnt used.

We skip this step with regular potatoes and still end up with the most crispy outside skin and soft inside flesh.

I can almost taste one right now.

If youre not making whole, average sized regular or sweet potatoes, all you need are your potatoes, oil, salt, pepper and any other seasonings you would like to include.

    That is it.
