Ive been wanting to get an air fryer since the circuit breaker, and at almost every online sale , the popular models always sell out before I can even place them in the cart. And my friends who have air fryers have been saying, go big or go home they tell me that the small capacity air fryers arent very useful, and for families with kids , I should get the largest size available. When the Ninja Foodi came along, I was equally excited and intimidated. It has the air fryer function that I want, plus a lot of extras that Im not sure how to use.

Firstly the machine is big its not huuuge the way some reviewers describe it, but it does take up a substantial amount of countertop space. Also, it has two lids , and the loose lid itself is bulky. There are tons of reviews online about the Foodi, with most of them disliking its black and grey design but I think the design is fine.

The Foodi comes with an instruction manual and a recipe booklet both of which were necessary and easy to follow. The control panel on the Foodis front is my favourite part of the machine its so easy to choose the mode , and to change the temperature and timer with the arrow buttons.

Theres a 6 litre pot and 3.7 litre basket where the food sits in. I dont cook at all, so if this machine works for me, itll work for the rest of humanity.

I tested the air frying abilities of this appliance, including its ability to cook two separate dishes at once. Taking inspiration from the recipe booklet that comes with the unit, I prepared crab cakes in one basket and filled the second with broccoli florets.

The recipe instructions said that broccoli cooked on its own takes 10 to 13 minutes. With the second basket in use, it takes 24 to 28 minutes. Four 6- to 8-ounce crab cakes take 8 to 12 minutes in a single zone and 10 to 13 minutes with both baskets in use.

I followed the recommended seasoning instructions and tossed the broccoli with a tablespoon of olive oil and brushed the crab cakes with oil. I set the first zone to cook the crab cakes on air fry and the second for the broccoli, then pressed Smart Finish to make sure both sides would be done at the same time. The broccoli zone took off cooking, while the crab cake basket waited on hold until the broccoli had 10 minutes left in the cook time.

Halfway through, it was easy to pause one basket at a time to shake the broccoli and flip the crab cakes for even cooking. When the timer was done, right on cue, I opened the baskets to reveal very nicely cooked crab cakes with a beautifully crispy exterior and some very crispy broccoli. Next time, Id cut back on the cooking time for the broccoli, as it was almost too crispy on the thinner ends. However, this was a delicious meal that took minimal effort and everything was cooked through as expected.

For Serving:

1 lemon, sliced into wedges

Guidelines for Cooking:

Take tilapia out of freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes. Then, cut each tilapia fillet into quarters.

Scoop flour into a shallow bowl. Take a separate bowl and beat eggs into it. Take another separate bowl and twirl breadcrumbs and salt in it.

Dredge a small tilapia batch in flour and tap off the excess. Then coat evenly in egg, followed by breadcrumbs. Its preferable to work in small batches.

Place crisper plate in basket. Select AIR FRY and set the temperature to 390°F. Press START/PAUSE and preheat the unit for 3 minutes at the set temperature.

After the 3-minute timer has elapsed, arrange 8 fish sticks on crisper plate and place the basket into the unit.

Choose AIR FRY on the unit adjust temperature to 390°F, and change the timer to 12 minutes. Push START/PAUSE button to begin.

Pause the cooking while halfway through and take the basket off the unit. Gently flip fish sticks and then reinsert the basket to resume cooking.

When done, take fish sticks out of crisping plate. Squeeze one lemon cut into wedges evenly over fish sticks and serve instantly with ketchup or tartar sauce.

Repeat the process with the other fish sticks starting step 4 to 8. You can as well put the remainders in a resealable plastic bag and place them in a freezer to be cooked later.

The Ninja Foodi comes with two lids, this means you have a lid thats already attached to it that is used for air crisp or air fryer. There is also a basket that goes inside the pot for the air fryer as well.

If you plan to use the pressure cooker option or slow cooker option, there is a second lid for it. This lid looks very similar to the Instant Pot lid and it also comes with a rack for your pot as well just like the Instant Pot.

If you prefer though, I actually decided to purchase this glass lid to go with mine and it works just like you would use it for a slow cooker.

Its so easy to use, weve cooked so many things in it Ive literally lost count at this point. It has a sauté function as well, so I cook meat and veggies in it too before using the other functions.
