Air Fryer Steak | Juicy and Tender Ribeye Steak

Chicken fried steak is a big staple in the south and mid-west and with good reason. Its absolutely delicious!

I know the word chicken fried steak can be misleading for some, but this dish is actually made with cubed steak, not chicken. The steak is then breaded and fried just like you would bread and fry chicken.

It was one of my favorite homemade meals growing up as a child. I didnt eat it often, but when I did, it was such a treat! Ive made them from scratch before but they can be a lot of work.

Thankfully, Ive been able to find a frozen chicken fried steak I like and have on hand when the craving hits. Between the frozen patty and using the air fryer to cook, making chicken fried steak for dinner has never been easier!

Air Fryer Steak With Roasted Potatoes Recipe

I start cooking the roasted potato first. In a medium bowl, add the chopped potatoes, olive oil, cayenne pepper, Italian herbs, and salt. Mix them well and make sure the potatoes are coated evenly.

While preparing the potatoes, pre-heat the air fryer to 360°F for 5 minutes. Once 5 minutes is up, place the potatoes into the air fryer basket. Let them cook for 15 minutes. Give it a quick toss halfway through.

Once 15 minutes is up, the potatoes should be crispy and brown. Take them out from the air fryer and set aside.

Next, it is time to cook the steak. Rub some oil, salt, and pepper on both sides of the steak.

Place the steak into the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F for 7 to 14 minutes, depending on the preference of steak doneness. I prefer a medium rare steak, which takes around 10 minutes. The cooking time for the steak depends on the thickness of the cut as well. For a more accurate guide, you may use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the steak. You may refer to the information below for the temperature of the different doneness.

How Do Air Fryers Work

Though air fryers may seem like they run on pure magic, there is some science behind those crisp, crunchy results. Air fryers work by using a small amount of oil and hot air to effectively fry your food. In an air fryer, hot air circulates around the slightly oiled food using convection, cooking it quickly and evenly. An air fryer slightly dehydrates your food to achieve a crispy texture.

Why You Should Air Fry Steak

Cooking steak is an art form. For some, its about cooking the best meal for their family or friends for others, its a way to show off how good they are in the kitchen. Either way, there are many different ways to cook steak and even more opinions on what method is best.

One of these methods that people seem to be talking about lately is air frying. Air fryers can be used instead of ovens or traditional stovetops when cooking steaks which mean less time standing over a hot stove and potentially less risk of burning yourself with oil .

If you prefer medium-rare, then just cook for 10 minutes. If you like more well-done meat, then cook it 15 or 20 minutes longer! One of my favorite things about air frying is that everything cooks at once, so theres no need to worry about overcooking one side while undercooking another side. This makes air-fried steaks perfect when hosting friends and family because everyone gets their food simultaneously!

Is Steak Nice In An Air Fryer

It is normal to doubt whether your steak will be excellent in an air fryer if youve never done it. It is a worthwhile trial. Your air fryer will cook steak consistently as it uses hot air circulation. Like a BBQ grill, an air fryer will give your steak a golden brown and charred outcome.

Why Do Chefs Spoon Butter Over Steak

Basting your steak with butter is a pro chef tip that will forever change the way you cook! Using butter adds richness to the steak and is the perfect final touch. It bathes the meat and helps the heat distribute into every nook crevice on the surface.

Wait to bathe the steak with the butter until the end of the cooking process to prevent the butter from burning. It is ok to slightly brown the butter because that will add a rich and nutty sauce to your steak.

    Use A Digital Thermometer

We all tend to have specific preferences for how we like our steak cooked, and missing the mark can end up ruining what wouldve been an enjoyable meal. If youre taking the time to make steak that youve spent your hard-earned money on, isnt it always worthwhile to put in a little extra effort to make sure its cooked just how you like it? We think so too.

Using a digital meat thermometer will allow you to easily monitor the internal temperature of your steak in the air fryer so that you can cook it to your exact taste . At that point, the name of the game is knowing what internal temperature youre looking for. Certified Angus Beef recommends 125 F for rare, 135 F for medium rare, 145 F for medium, 150 F for medium well, and 160 F or above for a well done steak.

How Long Should I Cook A Steak In The Air Fryer

This will depend on a few factors the size of your steaks, your air fryer model, and your preferred final temperature.

I used New York strip steaks that were an inch thick and about 3/4 of a pound each, which is the size usually available at my local store. Air frying the steaks for 10 minutes, without flipping them, resulted in steaks that were a pretty perfect medium inside. Compare the color of the sliced steak above to the doneness chart below to see what I mean.

I will say that since not all air fryers are the same, and since people like their steaks at different levels of doneness , this is something that you probably want to be careful with the first time. Check the temp of your steaks at around 7 minutes if you like them rare or medium-rare. At around 8 minutes if you like them medium. Then go in for longer if needed.

Once youve done it one time though, youll know exactly what to do next time! And then that is where the beauty of air fried steaks really is. Once you know the time for your air fryer and your preferred doneness, you can set the air fryer to 400°F, put in your steaks, set a timer and walk away. Come back to perfectly cooked steak every single time!

How Long Do You Cook Steak In The Air Fryer

    Air Fryer Paleo Sirloin Steak
    • In general, you should cook an inch-thick room-temperature steak at 400F in the air fryer for about 6 minutes before flipping it, and then 4 or 5 minutes after flipping. The slightly longer cook time before flipping the steak is because at that point, the steak is relatively cool after flipping, its already heated up a bit and doesnt need to cook for quite as long on the second side.
    • However, it also depends on the steak! Thicker steaks take longer, as do bone-in steaks. A thinner steak will cook more quickly. So keep an eye on it, and dont be afraid to adjust the cook time and test the temperature as needed. This Instant Read Food Thermometer should be your bestie when cooking steaks, and all other meats.

Tips To Make The Best Recipe

    • Dont use steaks that are less than an inch in thickness. Thin steaks are prone to overcooking quickly and becoming chewy.
    • To enjoy the best flavor and texture, allow the steaks to come to room temperature at least 30 minutes before cooking them in the air fryer.
    • Dont overcrowd the air fryer basket and leave some space between steaks for airflow to cook evenly.
    • Pat fry the steaks before seasoning them.

    What Steak To Use

You can cook all different cuts of steak in the air fryer. This recipe specifically uses sirloin steak, but you can use other cuts of meat as well.

Sirloin or top sirloin, ribeye, New York strip, or tri tip steaks are great cuts to cook in the air fryer because they are typically well-marbled and high-quality cuts. Experiment with whatever you like to cook and see how it goes.
