Toppings For Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
When I worked at an office, Thursdays would always be considered treat day and baked potatoes were popular to bring because you can keep them warm in the crockpot. The person in charge would always have different toppings to add to the top of the baked potato. Every week it was someone different so the same person didnt have to bring treats every day. We had a group of about 9 people doing this. Ive made taco baked potatoes that are also good.
- Gorgonzola and buffalo sauce, sour cream, green onions
- Sour cream, salsa, and chives
- Cottage cheese, chives, and freshly ground pepper

How To Know If A Baked Potato Is Ready
There are many ways to know if a baked potato is ready. Once its light and downy, then it’s clear that you should get ready to switch off your air fryer and munch your delicious meal.
Another way to determine if your baked potato is ready is the crispy texture on the outside. Most properly baked potatoes have a crispy, scenting texture, and a golden finish, instead of an uneven texture.
The most common and probably the most accurate way of knowing if a baked potato is ready is the internal temperature. Once it has hit 205 degrees Fahrenheit, the inside of the potato will look fluffy. At this point, you can remove it from the basket.

Making Roasted Potatoes In An Air Fryer
The process for making roasted potatoes in your air fryer isnt that much different from making them in the oven:
- Preheat your air fryer
- Cook the potatoes for 10 minutes
- Stir the potatoes
- Cook for another 8-12 minutes
Start by preheating the air fryer to 400 degrees for 10 minutes. You want the air fryer super hot when you add the potatoes so they get as crispy as possible.
While the air fryer preheats, cut the potatoes in half lengthwise. I like to use a mix of petite gold potatoes and petite red potatoes, but you can use whatever you like best. Just make sure the pieces are all similar sizes so they cook evenly.
Rinse the cut potatoes under cool water and let them drain really well.
Toss the potatoes with the olive oil and seasonings. Add the potatoes to the preheated fryer basket, along with some fresh thyme and smashed garlic cloves if you like.
Cook the potatoes for 10 minutes, then give them a stir. Cook them for another 8-12 minutes, until they are crispy on the outside and fork-tender on the inside.
Remove the potatoes to a serving bowl and take out the sprigs of thyme and the garlic cloves, if you used them. Season with additional salt and pepper, if needed. You can also toss them with some whole-grain mustard if you like.
What Temp Should A Baked Potato Be Cooked At
A : We suggest baking potato at F for an houre. Slighter potatoes might require less cooking time. Larger potatoes will take longer. Fully baked potatoes should reach a temperature of 210 degree F internally. If you are using a microwave, you should put the potatoes in their shells and cook them in batches. You can also use an oven preheated to 400 degree f. After the potato is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and let it cool down. Then you need to peel it back and cut it in half. Finally, slice it and serve it. This recipe is for baked large potatoes. Baked small potatoes can easily be made this way. C: If the interior temperature is too high, there is a risk of burning the inside of your potato. To avoid this, lower the temperature slightly.

In case you cant tell from the photo above, you can get away with imperfectly sliced carrots and potatoes here. Aim to keep the potato slices around the same size as the potatoes, and youll be perfectly fine.
As a quick air fryer note, I use a 301 model Ninja Foodi for air frying. If youre using a smaller or larger air fryer, youll probably need to slightly adjust the cook times.
Use the photo below to get an idea of what your potatoes and carrots should look like after air frying the first time. Youre looking for some wrinkling on the potato skins and some browning around the edges.
You want your veggies to be mostly cooked and fork tender before adding a little extra olive oil and the seasoning blend. Theres no harm in extending the time in the air fryer by a few minutes in this step if youre unsure about them being done.
How Long To Cook Baked Potato In The Air Fryer
Cooking times may vary based on the size of your potatoes and the Air fryer model. I suggest using medium sized potatoes around 8 to 10 oz each.
Cook at 400 for 30 minutes. And turn the potatoes over and cook for 20 minutes. Youre looking for browned, crispy skin and a soft, fork-tender flesh. You may have to reduce the cooking times if it cooks faster. Keep on checking in the last few minutes. If its not tender in the center or the thickest part of the potato cook for an additional 5 minutes.

How To Make A Baked Potato In Air Fryer
- Step 1: Thoroughly rinse a couple of good sized russet potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Pierce the potatoes all over with a fork to allow air to escape while cooking. This is an important step whenever you cook potatoes. Nobody wants a potato explosion on their hands!
- Step 2: Pour a bit of olive oil over your potatoes. Remember that air fryers only need a small amount of oil for cooking. Coating your potatoes in oil will allow them to crisp up on the outsides while letting the insides cook to a perfectly fluffy finish.
- Step 3: Season the potatoes with salt and pepper. A little bit of seasoning goes a long way, so between a couple of potatoes you should only need a teaspoon of each.
- Step 4: Rub the oil and seasonings all over the outsides of the potatoes to coat them well, then place them in the basket of your air fryer. Cook at 390 degrees F for 35-40 minutes. Then remove, serve with your favorite toppings, and enjoy!

Preparing Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
You can cook just 1 potato, or you can cook 2 or more at a time it depends on the size of your air fryer. If you are cooking more than one make sure there is enough space between the potatoes so that they can crisp up.
There are many different types of potatoes and the best kind to use for jackets are the floury kind, a large Maris Piper is my favourite, or you can pick up a loose baking potato in the potato section of most supermarkets.
Give each potato a good wash and scrub and pat dry with some kitchen roll.
Pierce a few times with a fork and brush a little oil over the surface of each one. The oil will help the potato to achieve its crispy skin. Sprinkle a little seasoning on the skin if you want to, I just add a little salt, but you could add some garlic or celery salt if you wanted.
Place the potato or potatoes in the air fryer basket I dont wrap them in foil as I like really crispy potato skin. If you dont want your skin as crispy you can wrap them in foil and just remove it for the last 15 minutes to crisp up.
I cooked the potatoes at 200C for 40 minutes depending on the size of your potato you might need to increase or decrease the time accordingly.
Having used a few different air fryers over the years I have found that some cook quicker than others. Its an idea to check on the baked potatoes a few times when you cook them for the first time in an air fryer at least to turn them over once.

Air Fryer Vs Convection Oven
- Air fryers cook food faster than an oven does. Because of the small size of air fryers, the heat inside is more concentrated and powerful. This results in quick and crispy results.
- Air fryers dont get as hot as an oven. Usually air fryers have temperature controls from 100°F to 390°F. This can be limiting if youre looking to broil something or use a higher temperature.
- Air fryers have limited space for cooking food. For example, the NuWave air fryer is 3.5 quarts which is pretty decent for a family of 4. There are some large ones, but theyll never be as large as your oven.
- Air fryers take up space on a kitchen counter. As convenient as they are, air fryers are still another appliance to place on prime kitchen counter space. So you have to decide if you will use them enough. Im now seeing toaster ovens that have air fryer capabilities as a new trend. Thats great to save on space and get double the functions in one appliance.
