Are Air Fryers Worth It

Should You Get an Air Fryer or an Air Fryer Toaster Oven? | Gear Heads

Just like any other items you bring into your life, its worth asking whether the next purchase would add something positive into your lifestyle be it time-saving, convenience, health. An air fryer, frankly, responds to those three requests. It heats up quickly, thus saves cooking time, it fries food without oil, which is responsible for the health part, and it is unbelievably easy to use. Hence, if that is what you are looking for to add to your cooking routine, then an air fryer is worth it. Also, an air fryer is an ideal countertop appliance to heat leftovers. Think about crispy perogies or pizza.

What We Think Of The Chefman Turbofry Air Fryer

Air fryers, especially large capacity ones, are almost always bulky and have to be stored on your counter. If you have a decorated kitchen, you probably want an air fryer that enhances the kitchen, not distracts from it.

The Chefman TurboFry Air Fryer is our sleek pick because it has a modern, minimalistic, and attractive design. It is made from stainless steel, but it has some dark gray and black accents as well. It has a traditional square shape, which means it can fit into most places in the kitchen.

In addition to having a sleek appearance, this air fryer is effective too. It has four preset functions that includes chicken, fries, meat, and fish. These buttons make cooking some of your favorite meals easy.

The model comes with a digital display, which shows you cook times and reminders. Once again, the display enhances the usability of the model, but it makes it look very modern and sleek at the same time.

You can even cook for multiple family members when using this air fryer. Because of its 8 court capacity, it is perfect for large family cooking or gatherings.

Very simple but great. Doesnt heat up the kitchen, dehydrates fast, and air fries perfectly and quickly. You can reheat french fries so they taste restaurant crispy again. Love it!

All around, the Chefman TurboFry Air Fryer is a great air fryer because it is sleek and functional, though it may be a tad overpriced for what it offers.

What We Think Of The Secura Saf

The Secura air fryer has a powerful 1700 watts of powerful for efficient air frying of a variety of food types. A large 5 L capacity means you can cook virtually any food you want in large and small batches for medium and large-sized families, parties, and other gatherings. It will heat to temperature in only 3 minutes and allow you to get cooking right away you can forget waiting for an oven to preheat for 10-15 minutes when you use this air fryer.

This air fryer has multiple cook functions including air frying, bake, roast, grill, and reheat. The temperature range of 180-400 degrees F means that you can cook any type of food and follow any recipe with just a turn of a dial. Speaking of, the controls of this air fryer are incredibly simple with one dial for temperature and one dial for your timer.

Although this is one of the smaller air fryers on the market, it is perfect for my family of three. I reheat pizza with it, I make delicious jalapeno poppers, and its great for making crispy fries and onion rings. The temperature range on this machine can accommodate any air fryer recipe you find, and its really easy to clean. I have nothing bad to say about this machine!

  • The Best Way To Clean An Air Fryer

    Aigerek Air Fryer

Were keeping things simple here. Yes, you could power cleaners from the grocery store, they could damage the surface of your air fryer. Likewise, metal scourers or brushes could strip away non-stick protection. Remember to unplug the device and let it cool completely.

Remove the trays, baskets and everything else from inside. If the manufacturer says the parts are dishwasher safe and you have a dishwasher the job is pretty much done.

Otherwise, wash each part in a mixture of warm water, with a splash of Dawn or another strong dish soap. Use a soft-bristled brush to pull away any greasy deposits or bits of food stuck to any surfaces. Remember to rinse everything. Otherwise, your next batch of wings could have a mild Dawn aftertaste. Trust us.

Take a microfiber cloth and tackle the outer parts and handles that might also get a little messy after repeated uses. This is especially useful for oven-style air fryers use the cloth to wipe down the inner sides.

If Dawn isnt shifting oily stains, try mixing a small amount of baking soda with enough water to make a paste, and apply that so that it doesnt seep into any electrical parts or the heating element. Leave it to work for a few seconds before using a damp cloth to pull any greasy spots away. Rinse out the cloth and wipe everything down again, and you should be ready for the next time you need to air fry.

What Types Of Air Fryers Are There

There are two basic styles of air fryers, which can be distinguished by their capacity, how much physical space they take up and how difficult they are to clean.

First, there is the smaller pod-shaped air fryer, which is the one most people are familiar with. A pod-shaped air fryer is about the size of a coffee maker and starts at around a 2-quart capacity and typically maxes out at around 7 quarts. It takes up less space on your countertop and is easier to clean than its convection oven counterpart. This is a good choice if youre making food for a smaller group.

Then theres the larger convection oven air fryer, which looks like a toaster oven with a door that usually opens down but has air-frying capabilities. A convection oven air fryer usually holds more than its pod-shaped counterpart, with many models boasting room for 10 quarts of food or more. However, they typically take up more space on your countertop and theyre more difficult to clean.

I use my every single day, but I rarely use it to air fry, Urvashi Pitre, author of Every Day Easy Air Fryer, said. It makes such a huge mess.

Besides the above specifications, you can also check these key features of the 10 best air fryers for 4 people in a family quickly.

Philips Xxl Hd9630/98 Air Fryer: Best Small Air Fryer

The Philips XXL HD9630/98 Air Fryer is a small air fryer that is a great practical option. It gets its power from the Twin TurboStar convection that circulates heat at a much faster rate. We were impressed with its exceptional crisp results in just half the time of a conventional oven. Its clear this model was designed with practicality in mind. The slide-out basket is convenient for not having to lift out the basket each serving, and all detachable parts are easy to clean and maintain.

It doesnt have all the fancy features like a digital touchscreen or even an on/off switch , but the manual controls are simple and easy to operate. The capacity isnt huge either, so this wouldnt be ideal for a large household, but this perfect for rustling up quick snacks or for a small family.

The Best Accessories For Your Air Fryer

Beyond official accessories from the manufacturer, try to pick up silicone-tipped tools. Tongs are ideal, as is a silicon spatula to gently loosen food that might get stuck on the sides of the air fryer. These silicone mats will also help stop things from sticking to the wire racks on some air fryers. They have holes to ensure the heated air is still able to circulate around the food.

Silicone trivets are also useful for resting any cooked food on while you sort out the rest of the meal. And if you find yourself needing oil spray, but dont feel like repeatedly buying tiny bottles, you can decant your favorite vegetable oil into a permanent mister like this.

How Big Of An Air Fryer Do I Need

For the average buyer, we suggest buying a five-quart air fryer. The basket is large enough to not be crammed when cooking for your family, but won’t take up too much space on the counter.

For two-person households, between two and four quarts of capacity will serve your day-to-day air frying needs. However, if you want to cook for more than two people or you plan on cooking two elements of your meal at once, some of the top dual-drawer air fryers offer up to nine quarts of cooking space.

Top 3 Best Air Fryers 2020 Review

As mentioned, oil plays a crucial role in air-frying. You do need some fat in order for your food to come out evenly cooked and perfectly browned. Youve got two routes to take here:

Everything you cook in an air fryer needs a coating of fat to encourage caramelization and prevent sticking. Some users swear by spray bottles of oilwe recommend La Tourangelle Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil Spray, a high-quality olive oilbut you can also just toss your veg in oil in a bowl before cooking. If youre playing with oil sprays, make sure to spray food before you transfer it into the basket.

Breaded foods get nice n toasty in an air fryer, but without some fat mixed into the breading theyll take longer to brown and the food inside could overcook before max crispiness is achieved. Tragedy! For our Sesame Coconut Chicken Tenders, we toss the breadcrumb mixture with a generous amount of oil before using it to coat the meat, which ensures perfectly golden brown outsides and juicy insides.

Q: Is Air Frying Healthier Than Baking

Whether air frying is healthier than baking boils down to how much oil youre using. Air fryers require little to no oil. However, depending on what youre baking in a conventional oven, youre probably also adding fat or oil to help with the cooking process and prevent the food from sticking to baking sheets and roasting pans. So if you add the same amount of oil to your air fryer as you would a baked dish, even if thats no oil, then the air-fried dish would be just as healthy as if you would have baked it.

    Style: Basket Vs Oven

Oven-style fryers look a lot like convection or toaster ovens, with the door and display interface on the front, while a basket-style model is more akin to a pressure cooker in shape, accessed on top rather than the front of the fryer. Oven-style designs generally offer more cooking functions than basket-style counterparts, which could be a pro or con depending on your cooking habits and other devices you already own. For small kitchens, Laurence likes an air fryer oven that does take up space, but has more functions so could be used for multiple things instead of a more compact but more limited device.

Should You Buy An Air Fryer Toaster Oven

Air fryers are all the rage, but can feel like a single-use appliance. Plus, they require significant countertop real estate. Air fryer toaster ovens tend to look like larger versions of your classic toaster oven, but come with all the functionality of a toaster oven, air fryer and even roaster combined. If your countertop already houses a toaster oven, consider this the ideal more-than-2-for-1 upgrade.

For one thing, the shape is sleek and angular, meaning it will fit more easily into a corner and sit flush against your backsplash. And most of these combo machines are stainless steel making them very durable, while many solo air fryers are shiny plastic that can feel like it’s a bit of a cheaper design. Another pro? The air fryer-toaster ovens are designed to hold more food. Many of these models can fit a 12-inch pizza, four-plus slices of bread and a whole chicken. No more batch cooking necessary, which means you can get dinner on the table for your whole family faster.

What We Think Of The Instant Vortex Plus 6

Top 12 Air Fryer MISTAKES How to Use an Air Fryer

Although air fryers can be a great addition to your kitchen, you still want to cook with a roaster, dehydrator, and other appliances on occasion. If you need multiple appliances, buy the Instant Vortex Plus 6-in-1 Air Fryer instead of every appliance individually.

What makes the Instant Vortex Plus 6-in-1 Air Fryer so unique is that it is a 6-in-1 appliance. It comes with an air fryer, roaster, boiler, dehydrator, baking feature, and reheating feature. In other words, you can cook anything you want in this device.

Despite being a 6-in-1 tool, this air fryer is super easy to use as well. Each of the six programs are displayed on an easy to touch screen system. Just touch and your food is ready to go.

As for the price of this model, we are absolutely ecstatic. It might be more expensive than a couple of the other air fryers on this list, but it is outrageously cheap it comparison to buying each of these devices separately. So, you can save some money when purchasing this 6-in-1 device.

Obviously, the Instant Vortex Plus 6-in-1 Air Fryer may not be your cup of tea if you arent looking for a 6-in-1 device. If you want an air fryer strictly, we recommend going with a more standard model.

I looked at many toaster ovens with an air fryer option, but this one met all of our needs. The digital readout is easy to read, and the automatic programs work wonderfully. I am impressed so far, and it looks great!

What Is The Best Air Fryer

The Cosori CP358-AF Pro Air Fryer is the latest release from Cosori. It has many of the same presets that we enjoyed from the original, but the digital control panel is elevated, which makes it great for ergonomic use and easy access.

    What we like about it

The controls were easy to use in testing, and we enjoyed how adjustable the shake reminder and presets were. The toast setting is a new addition, and it comes in useful for morning muffins and croissants.

Another thing we enjoyed in testing was the basket. Its square shape means it is expertly crafted to fit cuts of meat and generous portions, even an entire chicken.

Cooking time was faster than in a conventional oven. So much so that our food was ready as much as ten minutes ahead of schedule.

Fries only took a drizzle of oil to cook, and they came out evenly cooked thanks to the wide basket distribution.

    Things to note

This air fryer is a little larger than the earlier Cosori models. The Cosori CP358-AF Pro Air Fryer struggled to fit under our tester’s kitchen cabinets, so if you do struggle with kitchen space, it’s not the one for you.
