Air Fryer Tips And Tricks

Grease your air fryer basket with oil or a cooking spray, even if your food does not require oil. This will ensure that your food will not stick to the bottom of the air fryer basket. You can either brush the oil onto the air fryer basket or use an oil sprayer. You can also use butter to grease the fryer basket if you want to add a buttery flavor to your food.

Only use a small amount of oil. A little oil goes a long way, especially with an air fryer. If oil is included in your foods recipe, then use less of it. 1-2 teaspoons should be all that you need.

Check the smoke point, otherwise known as flashpoint, of the oil that you are using. Some oils start smoking and burn at low temperatures, while others do so at high temperatures. Since air fryer coils are close to the food, the oil may start to smoke earlier than you expect it to. If you use an oil that has a high smoke point, like peanut oil and avocado oil, then you will have great tasting food, and will not have to worry about smoke.

Frying The Chicken Pieces

Close the air fryer drawer and set the temperature for 390 degrees Fahrenheit and timer for 25 minutes.

After about 13 minutes, open the Air Fryer. Your chicken should look like the photo below on the left . Grab your Air Fryer oil spray bottle and spray those flour spots. Then grab some tongs and flip your chicken. Spray this side of the chicken as well, covering all flour spots. Close your Air Fryer and let it resume cooking.

Once you cooking cycle is done, use a quick read thermometer to ensure your chicken is fully cooked to 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove and enjoy

The 9 Best Cooking Spray For Air Fryer

Technically you can use just about any oil in an air fryer, however, oils with lower smoke points will likely start smoking before you reach the target temperature. This smoke gives off a “burnt” smell and can affect the quality of the food you’re cooking. Examples of oils with low smoke points include olive oil, walnut oil, unrefined coconut oil, and good ol’ butter. There are oils that are much better suited for use in the high temperatures of an air fryer, as we’ll discuss below.

One of the most important factors to think about when you are choosing an oil to use in your air fryer is the oil’s smoking point. The smoking point is that moment when the oil is no longer glossy and shimmery looking and it starts to smoke.

When the oil smokes, it can not only be a fire hazard, but it imparts a poor flavor in the food you are cooking.

Knowing the smoking point of oils is important so you can choose the right oil for the right food. High smoking point oils are the best to use in your air fryer.

Adjust The Temperature For Certain Foods

OIL MISTER/SPRAY FOR AIR FRYER

It can sometimes be tempting to crank the heat for the Air Fryer to the highest temp to let it run but be careful as some foods can dry out quickly. A good rule of thumb is to modify the temperature and time from how long you would typically make it in the oven. I like to go 30 degrees below and cut the time by about 20%. For example, if you cooked brownies at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes in the oven, cut the degrees on the Air Fryer to 320 degrees and cook for about 16 minutes.
