How To Make Frozen Wings In The Air Fryer
How Long To Cook Chicken Wings In Air Fryer
Cooking medium-sized chicken wings can take approximately 16 minutes to cook evenly at 400 Degrees F in an air fryer. However, if your chicken wings are a little larger, you can cook for additional minutes until the wings turn golden brown and become crispy on the outside.
Remember to avoid overlapping when placing the wings on the air fryer basket. If the wings are many and canât fit in the basket at once, cook them in two batches. In addition, flip the wings at 8 minutes or halfway.
Why I Love Air Fryer Wings:
- Faster than the oven: my oven baked wings are amazing, but they can take 30 minutes to an hour to cook and get that great crispy skin. Wings in the air fryer only take about 20 minutes!
- Crispy Skin: Like my other air fryer recipes, you end up with a crispy product thats just as good as if it were truly fried, without the extra calories!
- 5 minute prep!

How To Make Air Fryer Wings From Frozen Chicken Wings
I found that in order to get my frozen chicken wings crispy in the Air Fryer I had to do a little extra work. Fact is frozen wings have a ton of excess water and once you start Air Frying, that water leaks into the bottom of the basket, causing a lot of steam in the Air Fryer. Thats not the optimal environment for crispiness. In order to get frozen wings crispy, I do the following.
Lay the frozen wings in the Air Fryer basket and start cooking on 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-35 minutes turning every 5-7 minutes.
Halfway through cooking, remove the Air Fryer basket and drain the excess liquid. Make sure the basket is placed over a large bowl so you dont leak chicken juice everywhere. Once all the liquid in the bottom of the basket has drained, return the basket to the base and start Air Frying again. Cook until your wings are fully cooked and your desired crispiness.
Additional Note: The draining of the liquid is an optional step and it truly depends on the Air Fryer basket. In my Phillips Air Fryer, the wings can get crispy even with the additional liquid in the basket. However, in my Bella Pro Air Fryer, I have to drain the liquid to get it crispy.
Toss in your favorite dry rub or sauce.
And there you have it, perfectly crisp and delicious Air Fryer chicken wings from frozen.
How To Make Chicken Wings In The Air Fryer
Rinse and pat the chicken wings dry. Removing any excess moisture from the wings will help the skin crisp up. Detach the wings at the joint, if necessary. I have to do this about half the time that I buy them, depending on the brand.
In a large bowl, combine the wings with the olive oil, salt and pepper. Toss to coat the pieces evenly. If you want, you can add a dry rub or seasoning salt instead of just salt and pepper, if you want more flavor.
You can also spray the wings once youve put them in the air fryer, if you dont want to toss them in the oil. This will save you the extra bowl too.
Put the wings in the air fryer basket. Its okay if they overlap. They dont need to be in a single layer to cook properly. Cook the wings on 400 degrees F for 20 minutes.
At the halfway point, shake the basket so you move the wings around. This will help them get cooked evenly on all sides. You might do another shake near the end of cooking, too.
If you want to add a glaze to the wings, do it after the first shake, and around the 14 minute mark. Use a basting brush to brush on BBQ sauce, Franks Buffalo sauce, or any other glaze of your choice, if you want to.
After 20 minutes, the wings will be nice and crispy and ready to serve. If your wings were a little on the large side, you may need to cook them longer to make sure theyre cooked through. Insert a meat thermometer and make sure the wings have reached 165 degrees F. If not, put them back in for a few more minutes.

Key Ingredients You Need
- Chicken wings Try to get chicken wings that are all similar in size, so they cook evenly.
- Baking powder Do not skip the baking powder. It helps give the wings the crispy, crackly texture that you get from deep frying.
- Oil spray The air fryer allows you to make the chicken wings super crispy while using only a minor amount of oil. The oil spray will help prevent the chicken from sticking to the basket as well.
- Hot sauce I toss the wings in hot sauce after air frying, but you can use your sauce of choice if youre not a fan of hot sauce. BBQ sauce is another favorite.
Making Air Fryer Chicken Wings In Advance
- Giving your wings a full 24 hours to marinate will ensure optimal flavor. Leave them in a plastic storage bag overnight and simply pop in the air fryer when youre ready to eat.
- Freezing for later. Make a batch of air fryer chicken wings. Allow them to completely cool. Line them on a baking sheet in a single layer. Pop the baking sheet uncovered into the freezer. Once completely frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe plastic bag. Frozen wings should stay fresh for up to 3 months.
Reheat Leftovers: Reheat cooked chicken wings in an air fryer at 360°F for 4 minutes. Turn the heat to 400°F and cook for 5 more minutes. This will bring the chicken to its original crispy state.

- Dry The Chicken: If you have to rinse the chicken wings for any reason, pat them dry with paper towels to remove any extra water. This will help keep the wings crispy when air fried.
- How To Buy Wings: You can purchase chicken wings as a whole wing or broken down into drums and wings. We like to purchase them already separated, but you can separate them yourself if you accidentally bought the connected ones.

How To Reheat Chicken Wings In An Air Fryer

Its easy to reheat chicken wings in an air fryer, as long as you understand how the air fryer works.
Ive reheated chicken wings a variety of ways, but Ive found that the best way is in a single layer in an air fryer basket.
Reheating wings in the oven on a baking sheet works. However, it heats up the whole kitchen, which seems like a waste of energy. The toaster oven works too, but it takes quite a bit longer.
An air fryer is basically a small convection oven that quickly circulates hot air around the food. This allows for crispy skin while sealing the moisture and juices inside.
I love the crunch of crispy wings, as long as the inside isnt dried out. In fact, when the texture is good and the spiciness is at the correct level for my taste, Buffalo wings are on my list of favorite foods.
Whether you leftover chicken wings were originally cooked in a frying pan, in the oven, or on a grill, a great way to heat them up again is in an air fryer.
Next time you make or purchase hot wings, get a few extra so you can have another delicious treat the next day.

How Many Wings Can I Cook In An Air Fryer
Depending on the size of your basket, you will be able to cook a varying amount of chicken wings at a time. Mine fits about 10 chicken wings laying flat. The key here is not stacking your wings! If you stack your wings, you will prevent them from crisping up evenly. A general rule of thumb is to cover the bottom of your basket in one, single layer.
How Do You Store Chicken Wings
Leftover chicken wings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.
When it comes to reheating chicken wings, you can turn to your air fryer again. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F, grease lightly, and place the wings in the basket. Air-fry until the wings are warmed through, about 5 minutes or so.

How To Make Chicken Wings In Air Fryer
NOTE:This recipe was made using the Cosori Air Fryer. If you’re using a different air fryer, you may need to adjust your cooking time accordingly. Smaller wings will cook faster than larger wings.
These are seriously the best air fryer chicken wings and they’re so easy to make with such simple ingredients.
Tips For Making Air Fryer Chicken Wings
To get extra crispy air fryer wings, make sure your chicken wings are dry before coating with oil. I recommend rinsing them with water and patting them dry with paper towels.
Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess water while you gather the rest of your ingredients.
Doing this will ensure that the chicken wing skin will fry to a golden brown crisp in the air fryer.
Don’t skimp on the oil. While you won’t want to use an excess amount of oil , you won’t get that crispy golden skin texture without it.
Use a simple oil with a high smoke point like vegetable oil or peanut oil.
Pro Tip: When cooking meat it is extremely important that you measure the internal temperature to make sure your meat has been cooked to completion. Chicken is cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F/74°C.
Serve sauce on the side. Since chicken wings are dark meat, the meat will likely stay nice and juicy inside. Doing it this way will let everyone enjoy their favorite wing flavors, or more than one.
It’s important to serve a creamy dipping sauce with wings too! Ranch dressing and creamy blue cheese dressing are great choices.
