Air Fryer Salmon In Less Than 10 Minutes

I have to admit, I was totally, totally against the idea of purchasing an air fryer. And not just a little bit against it, but really, really against it. I figured an air fryer was going to be another small appliance I rarely used. Who else has lots of those?

And not only did I think I wasnt going to use it, I especially did not want another thing on my kitchen counter. Extra stuff on my kitchen counters is really one of my pet peeves. I really despise anything being dumped on them, whether its mail, car keys, computerstake them to your room and keep them there! But thats a rant for another day.

Anyway, I really did not want this new appliance and felt it was going to be a waste of money. However, I ended up pulling the plug and ordered it even though I was not feeling it. Im so glad I did, because air frying salmon is the best idea ever!

While most people find that the FDAs 145°F recommendations for cooking fish are too high, many chefs prefer to cook salmon at 125° in order to achieve a flakier texture.

This is easy enough with a little bit of testing! We do this by using our fingers and feeling for firm flesh that breaks apart readily when we poke it or use a fork on it. The only part you might need help checking is if your fillet is unevenly thick throughout.

Dont Constantly Check Up On The Salmon

When cooking salmon on the flat top, it is really easy to get frustrated and check up on the salmon every now and again, but this will ruin the heat that has been built up.

If you are to get the perfect cook on your salmon, you should stick to cooking them through before checking on them.

We recommend cooking them for 7 minutes at around 400 degrees. This will ensure the salmon is thoroughly cooked.

If you open the fryer and the salmon has not been cooked to your desired temperature, you can easily just adjust the timer and have them stay in the fryer for a little longer.

Tips For Making Salmon In The Air Fryer

  • Make sure the salmon fillets are comparable thickness. This will ensure that they all cook evenly at the same time. Depending on the size of the air fryer, you may have to cook them in batches. Then you can cook the thicker ones together if necessary.
  • Check for desired doneness with a fork. When it comes to air fryers, the time needed to cook the salmon will depend on the thickness of the salmon pieces and the model of air fryer you are using. The best way to check is with a fork to see if it flakes off easily.
  • Pre heat your air fryerbefore adding the seasoned salmon. I recommend doing this in order to allow the salmon to cook evenly. This speeds up the cooking time and gives a more crisped edge to the salmon.
  • Dont over crowd your basket. If you do so, you risk the salmon not being crispy because the moisture from the salmon fillets touching each other can affect the hot air circulating around the salmon rapidly. Air fry the salmon in two batches if necessary.
  • How Long Does It Take To Cook Salmon On Air Fryer

Air Fryer Frozen Salmon Fillet Recipe

Cooking salmon on air fryer takes about 12-15 minutes. This is faster compared to using an oven which takes around 18-20 minutes to cook. The cooking time varies depending on how crunchy you want your salmon to be and whether you preheat the air fryer before you start cooking. The crunch you will get when you cook salmon on an air fryer is by far much better than using an oven. This simple cooking machine will give your salmon a nice mouthwatering crispy texture.

Do You Wash Salmon Before Cooking

While salmon does require some cleaning before eating, there is a difference between the raw and cooked products for these purposes. There are two types of microorganisms that can live on salmon: Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus. To protect against these bacteria during the preparation of the dish, its important to wash your hands thoroughly in clean water after handling any raw fish or seafood.

Its also essential to wash all surfaces with a solution made up of two tablespoons vinegar mixed with one-quart water. Then you can proceed to rinsing your salmon under fresh water and searing it until well-done in an oiled pan on high heat.

The Best Ways To Buy Fresh Whole Salmon:

    Perfect Air Fryer Salmon

There are many types of Salmon Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Chum Salmon. The best-known Salmon is King Salmon , which is most often used for smoked Salmon.

Salmon that you buy in a store or get on a fishing boat has been caught one of three ways: by hook and line , through dip netting , or commercial gillnets during the summer spawning season. Fish caught with hook and lines tend to be more expensive they also taste better because theres no oil in their meat like there is in fish caught with nets. Salmon caught with nets are very inexpensive however, they can be oily and not good tasting. Salmon that you see in the store will usually have been frozen at some point which helps to reduce any of their imperfections or fish odor.

Whether its fresh or smoked Salmon, whether it was caught by hook and line or gillnet, look for Salmon with shiny color and firm flesh. Make sure it has a mild, briny ocean-like smell. Salmon should have a clear membrane covering its bloodline . The bloodline will change from bright red to brown as it becomes older, so if you want a fresher Salmon, dont buy one with a brown bloodline.

Whether you buy Salmon at the store or get Salmon out of the ocean, enjoy it fresh or smoked, knowing how to pick good Salmon will make for a more delicious and healthier meal!

Ingredients For Salmon Patties In Air Fryer

Salmon – you’ll need 16 ounces of cooked salmon. I suggest using canned salmon, but if you prefer you can use freshly cooked salmon. Remove any skin or bones first.

Panko Bread Crumbs – I use a gluten free brand of panko crumbs, but any style of panko will work beautifully here. This gives crunch to the outside of the patties and helps hold everything together.

Parsley and Green Onions – I love the color that these green things add, plus they give tons of fresh flavor.

Egg – One egg added to the mix will help to solidify the patties as they cook and keep them from falling apart.

Mayo – Mayonnaise adds creaminess to the salmon.

Lemon Juice – I always like a bit of fresh lemon with fish. Here it adds a nice tang and acidity to the mixture.

Garlic Powder – One of my favorite seasonings, garlic powder is an easy way to get the savory flavor of garlic into your recipes.

Salt and Pepper – Well seasoned fish is always a good thing.

Cooking Spray – I prefer to use an avocado oil cooking spray, but whatever type of oil you prefer will work just fine.
