- Frozen Tater tots: Tater tots are some of my favorite! I find these take just an additional 2-3 minutes for extra crisp.
Air Fryer Frozen Sweet Potato Fries
Last fall I purchased my first air fryer and from that very first recipe, it was instant love! I could not believe how fast I was able to cook up a whole turkey breast or the level of flavor and juiciness the finished product had.
From that moment, I was hooked and started using my air fryer to cook up both traditionally fried items like chicken wings and tater tots as well as anything else I thought the fryer could handle including air fried chicken breasts and pork chops with a secret rub.
Each time my air fryer proved that it was the go-to item for tasty, healthy items for my whole family!

I LOVE sweet potato fries. Anytime we go out to a restaurant, I would order these instead of regular french fries. I have been making them at home in the oven, but they always turned out more mushy than crispy. Then…I bought an air fryer.
Wow! This new appliance is so awesome! I bought a large 6 qt air fryer to make a larger amount of food with fewer batches. The first thing I made in my new air fryer was these ultra-crispy sweet potato fries. They turned out so crispy! No mush! I’m embarrassed to say I ate the first batch myself while waiting for the next batch to cook. But, seriously, they are that good.
You only need a few ingredients to make these awesome fries.

How To Cut Sweet Potato Fries
Start with two medium size sweet potatoes and try to look for ones that are not too long. This way you can use the full length of the sweet potatoes as the length of the fry. Remember that these air fryer sweet potato fries will shrink after cooking, so look for a shape slightly longer than the ideal fry length.
Next, peel the sweet potatoes, and cut off the skinny ends. You can save those for a different recipe. Then cut the sweet potatoes in half lengthwise. This will make it easier to lay them flat on the a cutting board and start cutting into long slices.
The thinner you cut them, the more crispy they will be. I recommend that you cut them 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch thickness.

Frozen French Fries In Air Fryer Tips
- Use this oil mister for a light coating of oil. Just enough to make perfectly crispy fries. You can also use cooking spray But the oil mister is nice because I can fill it with whatever oil I want to use and it doesnt contain any other ingredients.
- The finer the salt, the better it sticks to the fries. I highly recommend Redmond Real Salt. I like to salt my fries immediately after air frying, because the oil is hot and the salt will stick to the fries.
- Change up the flavor with other seasonings! Garlic or onion powder add flavor. Cayenne pepper or chipotle powder for heat. Cajun seasoning for a savory flavor with a kick. Ive also seen stores carry French Fry Seasoning. Let me know how you season your fries in the comments!
- Dont overcrowd the basket. There needs to be enough room for the air to circulate and cook each fry.
- Shake the basket every 5 minutes. If your air fryer has a rotating rotisserie basket, you can put the fries in there to do the work for you!

Freeze You Own Sweet Potato Fries
Making your very own frozen fries is easy. You will need to cut sweet potatoes with a special fries cutter or by hand. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper and lay fries on it in a single layer, not touching each other. Place in the freezer until hard, couple hours. After that you can throw them in the freezer zip lock bag and keep in the freezer for a few months.
This is a good way to safe sweet potatoes when you just have a lot of them. Or buy them in bulk when on sale.
Keeping Sweet Potato Fries From Getting Soggy
If your air fryer fries are soggy, it is likely because you over-crowded them in the basket. The sweet potatoes steam then, instead of air fry.
- For the best, most crispy results, cook the fries in a single layer so that the air has room to circulate.
- For decent results, you can cook up to two layers of sweet potato fries at once. Be sure the layers are not tightly packed and toss the fries in the basket often to promote even cooking.
Some recipes call for soaking the sweet potatoes in water prior to cooking them to help remove some of the starch and make the fries more crispy.
But when making fries with sweet potatoes, I found this step didnt make enough of a difference to be worth the effort.

Can I Stack Frozen Food In The Air Fryer
Yes! Frozen foods like these sweet potato fries, french fries, chicken tenders, and more can be stacked in the air fryer.
You can stack your air fryer up to the half-full point. Putting any more food in will cause an obstruction of airflow and your sweet potato fries will cook unevenly.
That means the top fries will be burnt while the bottom fries wont be cooked.
Its also important to shake your air fryer basket every 5 minutes or so to allow for even cooking when using stacked foods.

How Long To Cook Frozen Sweet Potato Fries In Air Fryer:
Cook in 400 degree air fryer for 10 minutes.
Tip: I didnt preheat my air fryer to save even more time, and this worked just fine. You can preheat yours if you prefer but the cooktime may reduce by a couple of minutes. Watch carefully.
HINT: If fries are overlapping, you can shake the basket or gently use a spatula to toss the fries at the halfway point, to ensure that the fries are cooked evenly.
You may want to leave the fries in the air fryer, with the power off to stay warm if dinner isnt ready yet! Just be careful not to let them burn if your air fryer is too hot. Sometimes Ill even pull the basket out a little and leave a small crack so they stay warm but dont burn.
