In order to make frozen chicken thighs in the air fryer, they must be individually frozen and not stuck together.
When frozen meat is stuck together, it wont cook evenly resulting in overcooked and undercooked chicken at the same time.
NOTE: If you would like a deeper golden brown crusting, you can turn your air fryer to 400 degrees for the final 1-2 minutes of cooking. I find my chicken thighs get golden brown with this marinade without this step.

How long to cook chicken thighs in the air fryer depends on if using bone in chicken thighs or boneless, the size, and the brand of AF used. Temperature and cooking time varies slightly with the type of air fryer so you might have to adjust the recommended cooking time below:
How long to cook bone in chicken thighs in air fryer is between 25-30 minutes at a temperature of 190C/ 380F.
How long to air fry marinated boneless chicken thighs is between 20 – 25 minutes.
For how long to cook marinated thighs in air fryer at a temperature of 180C/350F is 30 minutes.
It is cooked when the juice runs clear and there’s no blood around the bone. When checked with a meat thermometer, the internal temperature should be at least 165F/75C.

How To Cook Boneless Chicken Thighs In The Air Fryer
To a small mixing bowl, add smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, sage, red pepper flakes, parsley salt and pepper and mix to combine to form a dry rub.
Pat the chicken thighs dry with a kitchen towel so it is moist free, trim off any fat and transfer to a bowl.
Add the dry rub to the chicken thighs and mix to combine making all the chicken is coated. Then add olive oil and Worcestershire sauce and mix.
Preheat the air fryer at 180C/380F for 5 minutes. spray cooking oil in the air fryer basket. This is optional as the marinade already contained oil.
Arrange the chicken thighs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You should be able to fit about 6 in the basket depending on the shape of the basket. If need be, cook the chicken in batches.
Cook for 15 to 18 minutes depending on how you like your chicken cooked flipping it halfway for even cooking. The internal temperature of cooked chicken should register 165F/63C. If using bone-in chicken thighs, please check my cooking time guide below.

How To Cook Chicken Thighs With Skin In The Air Fryer:
In general, whether the chicken thigh has skin or not does not affect the recipe.
If you have boneless chicken thighs that have skin, the recipe below without any modifications will work perfectly. So youll be cooking your thighs for 10 minutes on one side first and then flip them and cook them for another 5-7 minutes, or until they reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit on an instant read thermometer.
If you have bone-in chicken thighs that have skin, youll use the bone-in method above. Youll cook them skin-side-down for 15 minutes and then skin-side-up for another 10-15 minutes, or until they reach 165 degree Fahrenheit on an instant read thermometer.
Can I Use Bone
Yep! I tested this recipe both ways, so if you’re going to use bone-in chicken, I’d air fry the chicken on the first side for 15 minutes, and on the second side for 12. Again, it depends on the size of your chicken thighs, too, but generally bone-in chicken takes a little longer to cook than boneless chicken.

Yes, you can cook frozen boneless skinless chicken thighs in the air fryer, and here’s how to do that:
Deglaze – If the chicken is covered in ice, deglaze by running them under water for few minutes. Also, separate them into individual pieces if they are stuck together.
Season – Rub the marinade all over the chicken thighs.
Air fry – Arrange the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket and air fry at a temperature of 200C/400F for 22-25 minutes.
Serve – Take the chicken thighs out of the air fryer and serve.

Why Are My Air Fryer Chicken Thighs Dry And Though
Here are a few things that caused them to be dry and tough:
- You didnt bring the chicken out of the fridge for 20 minutes before cooking: This is key for even cooking!
- The thighs were overcooked: Make sure to take them out of the air fryer as soon as they reach an internal temp of 165° F . By overcooking bone-in thighs you may even get their skin too brown.
- After air frying them, you didnt allow the chicken thighs to rest for 5 minutes before cutting them. The resting time will re-distribute the juices and lock the moisture in.
How Do You Make These Air Fryer Boneless Bbq Chicken Thighs
This recipe is a simple way to make sweet and sticky BBQ chicken thighs in your air fryer in 20 minutes! The quick high heats of the air fryer gets the sauce all sticky and perfect on the thighs!
First, take your chicken thighs out of the package and add them to a medium mixing bowl. If there are any big pieces of fat, feel free to trim those off.
Take a couple paper towels and pat the chicken dry in the bowl as well as you can. This will help the oil and spices stick to the chicken!
Next, add the avocado oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper to the bowl. Use tongs or a spoon to mix the chicken, oil and spices until the chicken is completely coated.
The chicken can sit in the spices and oil in the fridge overnight if needed, or you can proceed with the recipe without letting it marinate at all. The chicken will taste amazing either way!
To air fry, place the chicken thighs into the air fryer basket in a single layer with none of the thighs overlapping. Set the temperature to 380F and air fry for 8 minutes.
After the 8 minutes is up, open the air fryer and spread a small amount of BBQ sauce on the chicken. Next, flip the chicken thighs over and again cover with BBQ sauce. But this time, do your best to drench the chicken in BBQ sauce, covering every part you can see!
During testing, I found that extra BBQ sauce on the bottom tended to come off on the basket or fall through, while extra BBQ sauce on the top stayed on and got sticky!
