How Do You Split Chicken Wings
When buying fresh raw chicken wings, you’ll likely find them already broken down at your local grocer.
But oftentimes I find that purchasing chicken wings at specialty foods stores and local butcher shops takes a little extra prep work.
Here’s how to break them down into flats and drums:
- First, locate the two joints in the wings.
- Snip through the joints to separate the pieces using a pair of kitchen shears.
- Discard the wing tips and use the flat pieces and drums in your recipe.

Tips To Get The Crispiest Wings
These wings are definitely restaurant worthy. This will be your new tried and true to get your wing fix, I promise. Cooking them in the Air Fryer just makes them so easy. If you havent gotten on the Air Fryer band wagon its definitely time.
- Wings: As mentioned above, you can buy wings in two ways. They come whole or they come trimmed or broken down into parts: The drumette and the wingette. You definitely want to cook these in their parts, not whole. The whole wings are cheaper but it takes a lot of work to break them down. Its worth paying a little bit more for the work to be already done.
- Dry: Patting the wings dry before adding the oil and seasoning will help them get even crispier. Itll remove any excess water which can slow the cooking and cause them to steam. Theyll still get cooked but wont be as crispy. Use paper towels to pat them down, or even keep them in the fridge uncovered before seasoning to help dehydrate them.
- Turn it up: If you desire an extra crisp almost char to your wings, turn the air fryer up 20 degrees the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
- Stand them Up: Line the chicken wings standing upright along the sides of the air fryer. This is a great little trick if you need to fit them all in. It doesnt affect how theyre cooked, but gets them all in. Ill admit I havent tried this tip yet, but I heard about it and cant wait to try it out the next time I make these.

Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings These Crispy Delicious Chicken Wings Are Tossed In A Dry Rub And Air Fried To Golden Brown Perfectionready To Be Dipped In All Of Your Favorite Wing Sauces
I recently gave my parents an air fryer for Christmas, because I love mine so much, and I knew they loved it too. These Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings were one of the first recipes they tried, and its a real winner!
Really, youre getting two recipes in one here, since you wont use all of the dry rub for one batch of wings. If you keep it tightly covered, the dry rub will store for up to two years!
Youll use 2-3 tablespoons of the dry rub for every two pounds of chicken wings, so youll definitely have plenty leftover to use another time.
My biggest tip for getting super crispy wings is to rinse them in cool water and then pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels before you season them and add them to the air fryer.
These were hands-down the best wings Ive ever had! The seasoning is perfect, and my family was happy to eat these wings straight from the air fryer.
Of course, we do love adding sauce to our wings, and this recipe is perfect for that! You can dip the wings in your favorite sauces, or put the wings in a big bowl and toss with your favorite sauce to coat.
Buffalo sauce is always a hit around here, and barbecue sauce is a favorite of my youngest son. But the possibilities are endless, so dont be afraid to experiment.

Do Air Fryers Make Things Crispy
The biggest hindrance to flaky skin when cooking poultry is tepid cooking temperatures. Your medium heat pan or oven will only render your chicken wings fat out. You need medium-high heat for crusty chicken skin. Fortunately, air fryers use circulating hot air to make food crispy.
That said, you would need to add a little oil to the basket to keep the trays and baskets non-stick. This will make them easier to clean. While air fryers can give you magical and easy air fryer chicken wings results, without compromising on the taste, you will need to preheat your air fryer if its cooking specifications require you to do so. This will create an optimum cooking temperature for the perfect texture.
Second, do not stuff your air fryers basket full of wings. Making a huge batch at once may save energy and time, but you could wreck your crispy air fryer wings. Give your food room to breathe for even cooking.
Third, pat your chicken wings dry before cooking them. Use a paper towel to dry them so that they will turn crisp immediately they face the heat. Wet skin will produce steam, delaying the flaky texture.
How Do You Get Crispy Air
For the crispiest chicken wings, make sure they are completely dry before tossing them in the spices. Blotting the wings with a paper towel will remove any excess moisture that could make your wings soggy.
The baking powder in our recipes spice mix will also help dry out the chicken skin for crispy wings.

How Do You Store Chicken Wings
Leftover chicken wings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.
When it comes to reheating chicken wings, you can turn to your air fryer again. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F, grease lightly, and place the wings in the basket. Air-fry until the wings are warmed through, about 5 minutes or so.

Once they are done to perfection and as brown as you would like youre going to toss the goodnesses together! Use a bowl and you dont even really need a spoon. Drizzle sauce over the top and just kinda pick up the bowl and heave it in front of you and the back to you to catch them as they toss around and get nicely coated with heat.
- Place wings on paper towels to remove moisture from outsides. Spray inside of basket with non stick cooking spray . Sprinkle salt and pepper all over, use any other seasonings you would like too. Garlic powder is a great choice too.
- Place into a single layer without overlapping to achieve a super crispy outcome. Make sure your air fryer basket has been preheated at 350 degrees for 5 minutes before adding food. Cook the wings for 20 minutes cooking time.
- Toss the wings half way after 10 or 12 minutes or so. Remove once air frying is complete and they are as crispy as youd like, set aside.
- While theyre cooking make dipping sauce for chicken wings in a saucepan on the stove. Add all ingredients except flour and set hot peppers aside.
Half hot peppers and remove seeds, then put into saucepan once bubbling and cook for 10 minutes stirring intermittently, cool for 10 minutes. Use immersion blender to make smooth or pour into blender and then return to the pot. Heat again and whisk in flour to thicken sauce.
In a large bowl put cooked wings and drizzle sauce over the top. Toss together so each one is nicely coated well. Then serve them up!

What To Serve With Air
Since these air-fried wings are dry-rubbed, theyre great with dipping sauces. Our go-to sauces are ranch, blue cheese salad dressing, Buffalo sauce and barbecue sauce, but any sauce you like will work well. You can even toss the wings in additional seasonings to make lemon-pepper wings, peach-bourbon wings or garlic parmesan wings. Yum!
Along with an array of sauces, we recommend serving these air-fryer chicken wings with carrot and celery sticks for some crisp crunch.
Ingredients For Chicken Wings
Youll need the following ingredients for these chicken wings:
1 pound chicken wings If they arent cut into pieces when you buy them, you might have to remove the wing tip and detach the wing joint.
Extra virgin olive oil I like the flavor that the olive oil adds to the chicken, however you can use any cooking oil you want. It just helps crisp up the skin. If you want to spray the chicken with oil, thats fine too, just make sure you coat them well to keep the skin from drying out.
Paprika Use Spanish paprika if you have it. It gives a lovely color and nice sweet flavor. You could also use a smoked paprika if you like a smoky flavor.
Salt and pepper we keep this recipe very simple so you can decide what sauce or seasoning you want to add once theyre cooked.

Air Fryer Boneless Wing Recipe
- Salt and pepper
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Make the boneless nuggets by cutting your chicken breasts into bite sized pieces and salt and pepper the pieces.
In a small bowl scramble two eggs for your wet dip. In a separate bowl add flour, cayenne, chili pepper, and a touch of paprika to a bowl and give it a quick whisk so its properly mixed.
Dip the chicken nuggets in the egg bowl, and then using a seperate hand dip them into seasoned flour. Shake off excess batter, and place them on your air fryer tray.
Right before putting your nuggets into the airfryer, spray them olive oil spray to make your nuggets extra crispy on the outside.
Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees fahrenheit. We cook our nuggets for 15 minutes, and as long as you dont consistently open your airfryer your batter will come out crispy with a juicy chicken center.
The most important step is taking your piping hot boneless wings from the air fryer to your mouth, so the final sauce preparation is key. While the boneless wings are in the airfryer you can prepare your buffalo sauce in a small saucepan.
Immediately toss your boneless wings in the sauce, because the longer you wait the less crispy your chicken batter will be. We see the best results by lightly tossing our chicken in the sauce with a spoon so we dont break up the batter.
Eat them fresh and hot with your favorite ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce!
