The Vortex certainly boasts plenty of capacity for starters, so copious piles of crispy fries are within easy reach and the 1700W of power produces more than enough oomph for perfect cooking.
Actually, the sizeable basket is able to handle bulky items too, with our model easily accommodating a small chicken for roasting. The trade-off is that the appliance is pretty bulky, so youll need space in your kitchen not only for using it but also for storage once its cooled down.
The Vortex is ready for use straight out of the box and cooking some fries makes a great way to explore the features and functions. The interface on the front of the appliance is dead simple to understand, with a collection of idiot-proof buttons that include Air Fry, Roast, Bake and Reheat. What Is It Like To Live With
Even after weeks of use, we are still amazed by the abilities and capabilities of the unit. Set your cooking preference , time and temperature, then press go to start. It takes some time to pre-heat and when it is ready, it will prompt you to add food. We usually just add food right from start so we can effectively ignore this and it will start cooking automatically after preheating.
Just before the food is ready, it will again alert you to turn your food. Pull out the drawer and do what you must or you can also ignore this if there is plenty of room around your food and it will resume after a few seconds to finish cooking. Finally, when cooking is done, it again alerts you will a series of beeps.

Cleaning The Air Fryer
All surfaces in the air fryer that comes into contact with food and oil is non-stick coated, making cleaning an easy task. The main frying drawer should only be wiped clean and not submerged in water. Although, I have occasionally washed it carefully with warm water and soap, rinsing it at the end with running tap water being careful not not to get water in the vents near the handle and front cover. Then, drying it with cloth. The removable flat cooking tray with a mesh like cut-out is dishwasher proof although I have often just cleaned it with warm water and soap and left it to dry on the dish rack.
What Does The Instant Vortex Do
It also has four separate preset buttons to making cooking specific items in your air fryer simple. Those presets are:
- Air Fry
- Bake
- Reheat
While these presets are nice to have, I have not been able to find evidence that they offer different cooking functionality other than just being common predetermined time and temperature combinations.
Since there is only one heating element in this Instant Vortex, and the fan speed doesn’t change with the different presets, I don’t believe there to be a true difference between the air fry functionality and the bake functionality.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with bacon wrapped jalapeño cream cheese stuffed chicken breast in the Instant Vortex air fryer. The origins of a holiday that is celebrated in parts of Mexico and by Latinos living in the United States have been surrounded by controversy and confusion for many years.
But, who cares?! We get an excuse to party harder than usual with family and friends over good food and drinks! So, lets get started.
Ingredients:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 package of cream cheese , softened
- 1 tablespoon of butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 4 to 5 jalapeños, seeded and thinly sliced
- 8 pieces bacon
Instructions:
Note: I didnt have any jalapeños or cilantro in the house so I substituted 1 teaspoon of cumin for the which in the cream cheese mixture and I used Old El Paso Green Chiles instead of jalapeño peppers.
This recipe is also very good if you substitute ground sausage for the bacon or you can just mix some chopped cooked chorizo into your cream cheese mixture before stuffing it into chicken breasts.

Connect the power socket, remove the drawer, place the flat cooking tray inside the drawer then reinsert the tray. Set the programme to Air Fry for 20 minutes at 205 degrees Celsius or 400 degrees Ferenheit. Then, press Start. This cooking cycle is the same as normal cooking cycle with a preheat stage, remove and reinsert the drawer to continue then first and second cooking stages again with remove and reinsert drawer in between.

How The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid Works
If youre used to Instant Pots multi-cookers, cooking with this lid will feel pretty comfortable. It doesnt lock onto the base like the pressure-cooking lid, but you will still get the same musical alert when it is placed on the base correctly. When cooking you won’t be able to see into the base of the pot, but you are able to take the lid off to check on the progress of your food mid-way through. The lid is a little heavy , so you don’t have to worry about it moving around during cooking. It’s important to note that you cannot turn on the air fryer lid and Instant Pot base at the same time . Temperature, time and cooking features are all programmed through the lid. Make sure you have a stainless steel inner pot to place the air fryer basket into the air fryer lid is not compatible with a nonstick ceramic insert.

How Easy Is It To Use
Youre directed to the Instant Pot website for recipes, which is frustrating as sometimes you just want to crack into a new gadget particularly when it requires such little set-up. The control panel is digital and a single dial makes this feel easy to use.
Every function heats before starting, and the machine beeps when its up to temperature. Time remaining and cooking temperature are displayed onscreen. Reminders and error messages are also displayed, for example, when chips need shaking. At this point, the machine auto-pauses when you remove the drawer, but auto-starts when its replaced.
Setup Process: Took A Little Trial And Error
The Instant Vortex is basically ready to go right out of the box. If youre going to use the Air Fry or Bake settings first, all you have to do is remove the plastic and styrofoam packaging, insert the cooking trays and the drip pan, and then complete a test run which simply involves running the machine for 20 minutes. Once thats done, youre ready to cook.
If you want to start with the Rotisserie setting, however, things are a little more complicated. Though the Vortex comes with two user manuals, we couldnt find clear instructions on how to insert the rotisserie basket or spit. After a bit of trial and errorabout 10 minutes of fumbling with the accessorieswe figured it out, but it would have been helpful to have step-by-step instructions.
As avid Instant Pot users, our expectations for the Instant Vortex Plus were admittedly high luckily, it didnt just live up to our expectationsit exceeded them.
After struggling with the setup process, we decided to Google more thorough instructions which led us to an additional manual on Instant Brands website. This proved to be exactly what we were missing as it detailedwith pictureshow to properly set up the Vortex for each cooking mode. While we were happy we found it after the fact, we wish the full manual had just been included in the box.
