With the deluxe edition of the XL 5.3 Quart, Power Air Fryer has taken the structure of the older model and upgraded it in certain areas along with providing it with some new cooking accessories. But this upgrade does not hamper the convenience and the functionality of the original in any way.

My Thoughts

What is much more noticeable about the deluxe version is the stabler and much more durable build. A heavy-duty stainless steel construction makes the fryer much more long-lasting than the previous model, and with a mirror finish spring load, it adds a bit to the convenience as well.

But just like the first, the Black Deluxe has an automatic shut-off, that when conjoined with the preset features, stops the cooking cycle when needed, so that you dont overcook your food. Its extra accessories include a baking insert, pizza pan and cooking tongs that let you cook a variety of meals at will.

Though the Power Air Fryer XL 5.3 QT Black Deluxe boasts an array of convenient features, the basket can be somewhat tricky to insert. When I tried it out myself, it did tend to jam when I was putting it in the wrong way.

Theres a lot of stuff in the box. So many parts! Lots of sharp pointy parts that look a little intimidating. Clockwise, from machine rollie-poly basket for small foods, rotisserie fork , 10 skewers, rotisserie wheels, rotisserie handle, rotisserie stand , a random screw, 4 racks.

PRO: The rollie-poly basket is amazing. Stick your food into the basket and the basket rotates, so that the hot air circulates evenly.

PRO: Lots of recipes.

PRO: With the rotating rotisserie, the air fryer becomes more than just for fried foods like fries and onion rings. You can cook so much food in the Power AirFryer Oven.

PRO: The bottom tray is removable for easy cleaning.

CON: The inside is heavy duty plastic. The door is plastic. I was expecting metal, especially for an oven that costs $160. For $40 more, you can get a metal version. But that price seems so high. Here are their different models.

PRO: You can even use the Power AirFryer Oven as a dehydrator. Which makes total sense, because a dehydrator is basically just hot air blowing.

CON: The trays came a little warped, though I later when I used the trays for chicken wings, the heat helped straighten the trays a bit. The little plastic channels for the trays are very difficult to use. It takes me a couple of tries of very careful insertion in order to catch the grooves correctly. This is incredibly difficult when you have super hot trays, heavy with food on them.

PRO: The front door is removable for easy cleaning.

Best Budget Pick: Gourmia Digital Air Fryer

If you’re not looking to drop a full Ben Franklin on your air fryer, know that you don’t have to but can still nab a quality air fryer oven for relatively cheap. Of the many we tested, the Gourmia was among the least expensive at under $50 but it performed quite well in most of the tests.

This five-quart oven cooked chicken wings especially well with crispy skin and juicy center, and we found the power nearly on par with the Ninja and Dash ovens. It also made very crispy French fries and toasty mozzarella sticks with a gooey center.

One small drawback for this machine is its slightly clumsy build. The basket didn’t slide into the oven as flush as you might want and that could ultimately lead to problems but it didn’t affect my use of it in any way. This air fryer also has a lot of presets which I don’t generally care for since they don’t account for how much food you’re cooking or the size of, let’s say, a chicken wing or thickness of your French fries. I find it’s always better to use a rough preset recommendation and a lot of progress checking the first few times you cook something. That way you’ll learn about the oven and its power for yourself.

All that said, this 4-quart digital air fryer has a lot of oomph for the price and it’s a great size for most kitchens.
