See Ninja Foodi Fd401 Or The Ninja Foodi Fd402 In Action

Dont take my word for it, heres a short video demonstration from the brand.

The Ninja Foodi Deluxe XL is undoubtedly one of the best pressure cookers in the market. It features 8 quarts cooking capacity for the whole family or when you host a party. On top of that, The Ninja Deluxe XL has 12 cooking functions, making it a total utilitarian package.

Ninja Foodi Deluxe Review

Currently, the Ninja Foodi deluxe is only available in an 8-quart size. Like the original, the Foodi Deluxe is easy to operate. The pressure cooking function is similar to the Instant Pot and other electric pressure cookers.

If youre looking for Ninja Foodi Recipes, all of the pressure cooking recipes in mycookbook and on my site work in the Foodi.

Cons Of The Instant Pot

  • If youre looking for more than a pressure cooker then the IP definitely doesnt do it for you.
  • If you want an air fryer or dehydrator, the Instant Pot doesnt have that.
  • Sealing issues with the Instant Pot seem to be the biggest issue Ive heard. The ring is super finicky. Ive had one incident where it never completely came up to pressure and I had to release it and it basically ruined dinner cause it was like par-cooked.
  • The rubber seal keeps cooking smells and I can definitely attest to this. When I made my Instant Pot Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, my Instant Pot now cant unsmell of Chinese five spice, lol
  • Im hearing the slow cooker function is TERRIBLE on the Instant Pot I havent tried it because I use my 23 year old Crockpot because I know it works.

How Do You Get Crispy Turkey Skin

Ninja® Foodi 8

Lets start by saying that if you LOVE crisp turkey skin you may want to smoke it or roast it in the oven to begin with.

You can get it crispier than when you pull it out of your pot, but it will be a bit different than oven roasted.

First things youll need to do are:

  • Spray skin with olive oil, this will be necessary for crisping
  • Sprinkle seasonings over the top and all around to give it additional flavor

Here are your options:

  • You can crisp the skin at the end using the CrispLid for Instant Pot
  • Rotating the bird would be necessary for this
  • It is not going to brown it evenly because it needs to be facing neck up in order to fit
  • The best option is to transfer it to a large pan and throw it under your broiler
  • If you have a Ninja Foodi just set to air crisp at 400 degrees for a few minutes until its browned as much as you like. OR make a pressure cooker turkey breast.

For a smaller option, you can follow our Instant Pot turkey tenderloin recipe too.

Making Ninja Foodi Pepperoni Pizza Pasta

There was a Pepperoni Pizza Pasta in the Foodi recipe book. Since I also have a Pepperoni Pizza Pasta recipe in my cookbook, The Electric Pressure Cooker Cookbook, I thought it would be fun to give their version a try.

After pressure cooking the noodles and sauce for 6 minutes, you top it with cheese and pepperoni. Then you use the air fryer lid to melt and brown the cheese. The cheese browned a little more than I usually like. However, I liked that you can lift up the air fryer lid any time while its cooking. The blower pauses while the lid is raised and you can check and see if you want more or less browning.

While it was great to be able to melt and brown the cheese in the same pot, the disadvantage is that you dont have as much surface area as you would in a 9×13 pan to spread the cheese out over the pasta. Also, it makes a big pot of pasta. I had a leftovers that I store in the pressure cooking pot in the fridge, so the inner pot wasnt available to cook something the next day without transferring it to another dish.

Testing Out Other Foods In The Ninja Foodi

Ninja Foodi 8-qt 9-in-1 Deluxe XL Pressure Cooker & Air Fryer on QVC

The first recipe Genene made was the Baked Macaroni & Cheese recipe from the Foodi cookbook. Genene said it seemed like a lot of liquid prior to the Air Crisp time of 7 minutes. But its the perfect amount of liquid after air frying the noodles absorb the liquid as the topping browns.

An interesting twist on this mac and cheese recipe is you start it with lemon juice and baking soda, cook it for 0 minutes and let the noodles finish cooking during a 10 minute natural release. The noodles were softer than Genene likes, so the next time she would reduce the natural release time to 8 minutes. Both she and her husband enjoyed the mac and cheese recipe.

Genene also baked biscuits, Louisiana Battered Flounder, and Frozen Curly Fries using the crisping lid all crisped up beautifully. She tested the pressure cooker by making hard boiled eggs, and the timing for hard boiled eggs was exactly the same as in her Instant Pot.

    Pros Of The Instant Pot

    • It does its job.
    • There are presets for those that are nervous about not knowing about cook times.
    • If you just want a pressure cooker, this is really honestly the only machine youll need.
    • Its smaller so easier to store although I know some people think even the IP is too big!
    • It has the ability to slow cook too so again, if you need space and dont want two appliances, the Instant Pot is a good option.
    • Multiple size options. 3 quart, 6 quart, and 8 quart.
    • Price you can always seem to find it on sale on Amazon for like $89.99 or similar especially during flash deals and Black Friday.

Ninja Foodi Vs Instant Pot: Prices And Products

To put it simply, Instant Pots are standalone electric pressure cookers. But they do so much more than that. At the most basic end of the spectrum, Instant Pot multi-cookers act as a 6-in-1 pressure cooker. This means that all models in the Pot range can pressure cook, slow cooker, steam, sauté, cook rice and act as a food warmer.

While some of the more premium models can also air fry, sous vide food, make yogurt and sterilize baby bottles. Most of the Instant Pot multi-cookers come in 3, 4, 8 and 10-quart options.

    • Instant Pot Duo
    • Instant Pot Duo Plus
    • Instant Pot Lux

Winner: For us, Instant Pots range comes out on top when it comes to price and the sheer range of great products available. The brand has far more multi-cookers to choose from, each of which are kitted out with a whole host of different features. It also beats Ninja Foodi on price every time.

How Much Is The Ninja Foodi

    Ninja 8 Qt. Foodi 9

So, its not cheap when you compare it to the Instant Pot BUT if you think about it, it includes an air fryer. So thats kind of like you buying an Instant Pot AND an air fryer separately.

The cost ends up being the same, if not more, depending on what brand air fryer you buy.

The Ninja Foodi cost me roughly $193 including tax. Retail price is $229 but I bought it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond so I was able to use a 20% off coupon.

However, , it is now $179.99!

Air Fryer Function Of Ninja Foodi

Ive never used an air fryer before this machine so I have nothing to compare it to.

Im very impressed though with how little oil you need for everything to cook and get crisp.

I made my three ingredient nuggets in it dropped the meatballs in raw and didnt even use any oil. They came out so crispy!

Weve made scallops in it, chicken tenders, asparagus, broccoli, and more!

Where Instant Pot Wins: More Models With More Tailored Features

“Instant Pot” is an umbrella term. Like a grandmother yelling “or whatever your name is” to a gaggle of grandchildren, the Instant Pot family is so versatile that it can be hard to remember which model does which but that’s a good thing.

The Instant Pot lineup includes the most basic model, the 7-in-1 Duo for $89 while the most advanced is the 11-in-1 Pro Crisp for $249.95. Every Instant Pot can pressure cook, slow cook, cook rice, steam, sauté, and warm, and as the models level up, more sophisticated features are added, like yogurt making, baking, or sous vide.

The models with “Crisp” in the title are obviously the air frying ones. But if you already have an Instant Pot, air frying can be added to most models with the .

Most models are available in the popular 6-quart size as well as a mini 3-quart model and a family-friendly 8-quart model. Instant Pot models vary so widely to the point where they’re almost customizable to your skill and budget.

The best part is that if you don’t need all of those functions, Instant Pot won’t make you pay for them.

The Instant Pot Max also stands out with 15 PSI, which speeds up pressure cooking even more and opens the door for precise pressure canning a must for wannabe chefs, grandmas, and homesteaders who preserve everything possibly. The Foodi maxes out at about 12 PSI.

    Is The Ninja Foodi 9

While the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 pressure cooker has a learning curve, its within a reasonable margin. To begin with, it comes with a 45+ recipe book for you to try. In other words, youll get used to it in no time.

    Heres the best part:

The controls look so much simpler turn dial and five buttons. More importantly, adjusting the temperature and cooking duration proves to be several times easier with a variable knob.

On that note, showing you would be better. Heres a video from Shark Ninja:

Now, lets talk about its maintenance.

As I have mentioned repeatedly, I dont recommend washing any parts in the dishwasher. Sure, it makes things easier, but it can damage the coating over time.

Dont worry cleanup is still straightforward.

You dont even need to soak the non-stick cooking pot and crisper basket for hours. Any food residue will likely wash off with a mild scrub from the trusty soft sponge.

Also, the base unit, along with the crisper lid, wipes off quickly with a damp cloth.

The pressure lid, however, has a few different steps. Gently remove the silicone ring before you wash it. Then, scrub both the cover and ring with a soapy sponge. Remember not to submerge the lid underwater.

    Ninja Foodi 65 Quart 11

Ninja Foodi 8-qt 9-in-1 Deluxe XL Pressure Cooker & Air Fryer on QVC

Want the option to keep your meals heated if you cant get to them right away? How about a vacuum-sealed steak dinner? While the Ninja Foodi FD403 may not have the deluxe pot and crisper of the FD402, this multicooker adds another two cooking presets to the FD402s nine: sous vide and warming.

Dont let the loss of the Deluxe label fool you, as this cooker can still handle a ton. The 6.5 quart pot is large enough to cook a 5-pound chicken or a 6-pound roast for your next major get-together. Theres also a 4.6-quart Cook & Crisp chamber for your next deep-fry kick. The stainless steel nesting broil rack is another great addition, giving you a dedicated compartment for steaming, broiling, and food storage.

TenderCrisp tech and the 45-page recipe book are here too, along with the ability to throw your pot and crisper in the dishwasher if youre not up for hand-washing. Think of the Ninja Foodi FD403 as a perfect middle option between the OP101BRN and FD402.
