Frozen Hamburger Patties In Air Fryer

Can you air fry frozen ground beef? Yes, this is how to cook frozen hamburgers in an air fryer. I would not suggest cooking an entire pound of ground beef in it though. The outside will get way more overdone by the time the middle defrosted.

Best Time & Temperature To Air Fry Frozen Beef Burgers

The amount of time it takes to air fry a frozen burger depends on the size and thickness of the burger patty. These are general recommendations. When cooked at 375 degrees, the typical beef burger needs about 10-15 minutes to cook at a temperature of 375F . Check on your burgers at the 10-minute mark and adjust time accordingly.

Rare Burger: 10-12 minutes at 375F

Medium Well Burger: 12-15 minutes at 375F

Well Done Burger: 20 minutes at 375F

Air Fryer Burger Variations And Toppings

I love this recipe because you can adjust the toppings according to your needs, cravings, and preferences!

  • Top it with classic condiments, such as onions, tomato, lettuce, and pickle.
  • Try adding pineapple for a Hawaiian burger.
  • Dress it with avocado and green chili for a Southwestern burger.
  • Smother it with your favorite BBQ sauce and onions for a delicious cowboy burger.
  • Before cooking the air fryer hamburger patties, quickly fry bacon in the air fryer for an air fryer bacon cheeseburger.
  • Mix together softened cream cheese and chopped pickled jalapenos for a delicious spread. I also love spreading a little pepper jelly on top of it for a Pepper Jelly burger.
  • Use a lettuce wrap or tortilla, instead of a bun, for a low carb option.

The possibilities are endless! Let me know in the comments how you dress your air fryer burger.

Tips The Best Air Fryer Burgers

  • Pour some water on the air fryer pan. This will prevent the fat from sizzling on the hot tray when it falls from the burgers.
  • You can easily use a fattier meat, but we had excellent results with 90% lean ground beef.
  • Use a great bun. We always use brioche buns for burgers. Theyre buttery and delicious with the burgers.
  • Opt for real cheddar cheese or yellow American cheese. Most prefer yellow cheese.

How Long Should I Cook Frozen Hamburger Patties

While test cooking I carefully watched the patties and measured cooking times for 2 typical air fryers: One for families and a personal model .

What I found was interesting. The proper time was about the same for both appliances.

I measured 14 minutes at 400 degrees to get well-done hamburgers that taste great.

The cooking process for frozen patties was basically like this:

  • 5-6 minutes into cooking: Thawing, begin to cook
  • 8 minutes pass: Lightly cooked, edible, but not really good tasting
  • 10-12 minutes: Begin to brown and more thorough cook, the taste improves
  • 14 minutes: Fully cooked, browned a bit on the outside, and delicious!

What can I say? Im very careful and a bit scientific about how I cook foods the first time. I wanted to be 100% sure I didnt burn them as well as compare how 2 different air fryers would perform.

Most of all, though, is that I wanted to be sure they taste great!

Tip:You can be confident how well food is cooked by using a digital temperature gauge with pointed probe to check. When the temperature inside reaches 165° or above the food should be safe to eat and nearly done. I use a nice little ThermoPro TP03A digital kitchen gaugethats very affordable and works great.

After 14 minutes at 400 degrees for most air fryers you should be done and ready to enjoy your delicious, healthy hamburgers.

Because of that, its easy to burn food until you get the hang of it.

How To Melt Cheese On Top Of A Chicken Patty

I love putting spicy pepper jack cheese on my chicken patties, but if youve ever tried putting a slice of cheese on something in an air fryer, you know it flies off immediately.

This is a fun trick I use to melt cheese without any added tools and it works perfectly every time.

  • Place chicken patty on the bun and place in the air fryer.
  • Turn the air fryer off completely and put a piece of cheese on the chicken patty.
  • Close your air fryer and let it sit for 30-60 seconds. The cheese will melt from the residual heat in the air fryer!
  • I also use this trick when making Air Fryer Cheeseburgers.

    Frozen Air Fryer Hamburger Tips

    • I recommend using frozen ground beef patties with 80/20 or 90/10 fat content. The burgers are too greasy with higher fat content.
    • Flip the hamburgers in the air fryer halfway through cooking. This ensures the frozen hamburger patty cooks evenly.
    • Space the hamburger patties evenly in the air fryer. If all four burgers cant fit without touching or overlapping, cook in batches. Air fryer burgers need space for the ventilation to cook them through. If you add too many burgers in the air fryer, it will result in a lot of steam and wont have that crispy outside and juicy center.
    • Use my favorite meat thermometer. Every air fryer cooks a little differently and frozen hamburger patties have unique sizes. Simply use the meat thermometer to get the cook time just right!
    • If you want an air fryer cheeseburger, simply add cheese on top of the patty one minute before the cook time is over and let it cook until melted.

How Do You Make The Perfect Hamburger Patty

Making hamburgers in your air fryer is ridiculously easy! Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • First, you need a couple of nice thick burger patties. If you’re making your own, start with your preferred ground protein and add whatever seasonings you desire. Using your hands, shape the ground meat into patties that are around ¾ to one inch thick.
  • Next, place your patties in the bottom of your air fryer basket, making sure to leave an inch of space between them.
  • Cook your air fryer hamburgers for 4 minutes at 350 degrees, then open the air fryer basket and use a spatula to flip them. Cook them for another 4 minutes until they’re golden brown on the outside and cooked to a medium consistency on the inside.
  • When your air fryer burgers are done cooking, you can then add a slice of cheese and cook for one additional minute before serving.
  • Got a FROZEN burger patty? No need to thaw it, just toss it in and cook.

What Temperature Do You Cook Hamburgers In An Airfryer

The temperature to cook hamburgers in an air fryer depends on the recipe.

If you have a non-stick basket, you may want to aim for 350°F so they come out nice and crispy again. Filming time will depend on the thickness of your burger. For homemade patties, you may choose to cook them at a higher temp, say around 400°F.

This way, they fry faster but still dry out nicely.

    Want Fries With Your Burgers

French fries go wonderfully with burgers, but it doesnt work well to air fry the fries along with the burgers. Burgers are just too greasy! My son tried to air fry the two together and the fries were pretty gross and not tasty.

So if you want fries air fry them before cooking the burgers, and put them in a 250 degree oven to stay warm while you make the burgers. Or serve the burgers with coleslaw or potato chips instead.

Why Make A Frozen Burger In The Air Fryer

Frozen Burgers in Air Fryer (Hamburger Patties Recipe ...

Quick and easy -this is hardly a “recipe” it is so simple!

The texture. I LOVE crispy food FAST. Air fried burgers have that perfect “crust” on the surface while remaining juicy on the inside.

Easy clean up. Grilled and pan-fried burgers are great but making air fried burgers takes minimal effort to clean up after.

Differences Between Fresh & Frozen Burgers

Choosing between a fresh or frozen burger might be the most important decision of all.

Fresh Burgers in an Air Fryer

My first attempts at cooking burgers in the air fryer were using half-pound patties from Sunshine Provisions, the same kind I sell in my BEAST Boxes. If you can, use fresh, never frozen, you will ultimately get the best results with the air-fryer. I have moved onto cooking fresh beef quarter-pound burgers, which I prefer. The main reason being that they could cook faster, and I get quite impatient waiting. And if you prefer the half-pounders, you can always double up on the patties when assembling your cheeseburger.

Frozen Burgers in an Air Fryer

When I have no choice and must use frozen patties, Chop House By Holten Steak Burgers is my burgers of choice. Ive always got a backup box of these in my freezer whenever the need or necessity arises. The patties are 1/3 pound, which puts them in a sweet spot between the sometimes not so filling 1/4 pound and the many times too filling 1/2 pound. There is no reason to defrost these they go straight in the air-fryer as is.Now, I know many Bubba Burger fans are wondering why I didnt mention or use them. The truth is, Im not a fan, but you do you.

What Air Fryer Should I Get

I actually have two air fryers!

I love my Paula Deen 9.5 quart air fryer . While this air fryer doesnt have the bells and whistles I love it! I bought it because of the capacity its very hard to cook single layer items in the Philips XL. This Paula Deen is HUGE! Also the cleanup is much easier. Its got an easier to remove plate that is non-stick and nothing sticks to it!

I also have the Instant Pot Omni Pro Air Fryer Oven. I have really come to love this one too! The oven style doesnt blow the world around quite as much which is helpful with bacon and cheese. It also has a wider space so its nice for baking dishes or cake pans.

Making frozen beef burgers is now as easy as my old standby the microwave burrito pop it in and youre done! Plus you can still make all sorts of tasty additions and fun sauces besides just ketchup and mustard. I even added some of the Robert Rothschild Farms Bacon Chutney! It was one of the products they sent me a while back and I loved it! It really added so much flavor especially on the turkey burger! You can even go keto and serve it in a lettuce wrap!
