Did You Know You Can Get A Range With An Air Fry Mode Built Into The Oven Check Out Our Top Picks
Cooking for a family can be tough. Especially this year, as many households are cooking up to 200% more meals at home than last year. If you’re looking to create family meals, that are more healthy than takeout and guilt-free, consider a stove with air fry mode.
Last year I visited a friends house to watch a football game. As I entered the kitchen I was greeted with the familiar aroma of football fan favorites including chicken wings, french fries, nachos, doughnuts, and a whole bunch of other fun snacks. When I asked where they got their takeout, they led me over to a giant countertop appliance, called an air fryer.
We love it! I listened to my friend pitch the features of his air fry oven. Plus, its great for the kids’ foods, so easy.
Air fry is essentially a supercharged convection mode that circulates hot air throughout the oven to deliver all the flavor and a crispy texture. It’s a great way to enjoy healthier and delicious meals without adding oil, grease, and fats typically used to fry foods. You can expect perfect browning on the outer edges and a satisfying crunch every time.
An air fryer is a true convection oven with a heating element designed to circulate hot air throughout the oven. This supercharged convection system delivers faster, more even than multi-rack baking results.
Today you can get air fry in one of two ways. You can buy a countertop air fry appliance or you could buy a stove with a built-in air fry mode.

What Can You Cook
Air fryers can cook practically anything, though there are some limits. While you can cook entire chickens with delicious, juicy results, their smaller overall size can be problematic if, for example, you wanted to cook up a giant platter of crispy wings.
Thats because items ideally need to be spread across the bottom of the basket in a single layer for even results. Due to their smaller footprint compared to ovens, this means wings and other items need to be cooked in batches, which might be inconvenient depending on how many hungry mouths you have to feed.
Frigidaire Wants You To Throw Out Your Air Fryer
The appliance maker brought a brand new oven to KBIS 2019 and it includes an air fryer mode.
Frigidaires latest collection of ranges debuted at the KBIS 2019 trade show Tuesday, adding a new air fry feature to the oven lineup.
The new 30-inch range will be available in gas , electric and induction models in smudge-proof stainless steel and black stainless finishes. The freestanding range includes such features as wall-to-wall glass and front controls for sliding it into existing cabinetry layouts to get a built-in look.
The range also boasts a light, 20-minute steam cleaning mode for everyday maintenance and a quick preheat featured aimed at cutting down the wait between turning on your oven and cooking your food.
The gas cooktop features an 18,000-BTU power burner, 5,000-BTU simmer burner and 10,000-BTU oval burner. A griddle pan is also included. Frigidaire also says its made the new burners easier to remove for cleaning.
Whats most interesting about the oven is Frigidaires new air fry button, something we havent seen in a full-size oven until now. But how does air frying in an oven differ from convection baking?
The folks at Frigidaire explained that the air fryer mode heats up the air inside the oven to a higher temperature than what youd use with convection. It then gradually cools down as the fan circulates air around the cavity rapidly.

Air Fry Vs Convection Oven
A convection oven works similarly to a traditional oven, but instead of the heat rising and cooking your food based on a given temperature, a convection oven uses fans to move air around quickly and evenly distribute heat. This means your food cooks faster, more thoroughly, and ultimately saves you energy and money.
When you break it down, air frying ranges and convection ovens are close relatives, but there are a couple of distinctions between the two. While both ovens use fans to distribute heat throughout the appliance, in an Air Fry oven range, the air moves around much more rapidly, which is why you get faster cooking results. Also, certain foods that are typically made to be fried will turn out much better in an air fryer instead of a traditional oven. Foods like hot wings and onion rings retain their natural texture and flavor when you can simulate a deep-frying cooking technique.

What Is Air Frying
Air frying is a heating element that is specifically designed to help you create your favorite fried foods in your kitchen. The Air Fry setting operates at much higher temperatures compared to traditional ovens, which quickly browns and crisps the surface of your food. It circulates a super-charged heat throughout the oven, so every french fry and egg roll is evenly cooked to crispy perfection. After a short burst of direct concentrated heat, your air frying range will gradually decrease the internal cooking temperature to ensure a golden exterior while maintaining a soft and juicy bite on the inside.
With just a touch of a button, you can enjoy your favorite fried food with all of the flavor and none of the guilt!
From traditional baking ovens to air fry ovens theres more than one way to heat your food. If youre comparing air frying vs. baking, ask yourself, which cooking style works best for you and your cooking style?
To understand how air frying works, its equally important to understand how baking works on a standard oven. When baking something in the oven, the temperature rises from underneath the heating elements and warms up the air. Your oven will increase gradually until it has reached the temperature you have selected and it will remain there during the duration of the cooking process.

What Is An Oven Air Fryer
Air frying is a baking technique that uses convection fans to circulate warm air at a rapid rate within your oven. When compared to conventional deep frying, this method cooks food quickly and produces a crunchy, fried coating as well as even colouring on all sides while using less than no oil.
Air Fry is now a possible option for you. You may adjust the position to Air Fry, which is particularly designed for cooking all of your favourite meals in a significantly shorter time than a regular deep fryer, just like you would change the option on your oven from conventional heating to convection baking. Instead of dealing with dirty hot oil, ponds of oil, or spray burns, an Air Fry oven range is a more convenient and safer way to try out new fried meals.
What Is An Air Fryer
An air fryer refers to a smaller version of a convection oven. There are two models of an air fryer which include an air fryer oven and an air fryer basket. Both models work the same way, though the various parts of the devices may be in different places.
The temperatures may be different for the two devices, and they may also differ in their food placement.
An air fryer may be an excellent option if you wish to cook your food quickly. It works by circulating hot air around your food.
This enables your food to cook without using oil. Most air fryers have the heating element placed above the food.
Additionally, you may not need to preheat the oven like convection ovens. As such, it saves you a lot of time in addition to ensuring healthy eating.

GE, LG, and Frigidaire carry the air fryer feature in their ranges.

Is It Possible To Cook Coated Food In An Air Fryer Oven
Crispy cuisine requires just enough oil to bond mixes and toppings, but not much, or the results would be mushy. Spray the exterior of the meal with some additional oil if it has a crumbling or floury feel.
If youre preparing air-fried meals from scratch, lightly coat your handmade things in oil and place your meal so that the warm air flows as much as possible over each thing.

Over The Range Convection Microwaves Vs Traditional Microwaves
When it comes to core functionality, both OTR convection microwave ovens and traditional microwave ovens are one and the same. They use microwave radiation for cooking or reheating your food. However, models with a convection feature extend this functionality to include a heating element and fan that blows hot air evenly around your food. This can provide a more consistent and precise cooking experience.
The next main difference between OTR convection microwaves and standard alternatives is that OTR models can only be installed above your stove. Traditional microwaves come in all different sizes and configurations, some of which can be installed over the range and others that can simply be placed on your countertop.
In general, OTR microwaves also tend to offer more advanced functionality and more pre-set cooking modes than standard alternatives. As such, they are a little more expensive and larger than the average microwave oven.

Should You Buy An Oven With An Air Fryer
I dont think the air fryer mode should be the determining factor in your decision-making. Its a nice add-on feature to have, but this should not impact the cost of the oven.
It isnt easy to compare the cooking results from the LG and GE with a compact tabletop air fryer.
The results were so drastically different in the tabletop device because the cooking space was much more compact, so the heat, in turn, was more concentrated, plus the food was closer to the direct heat source.
If you are looking for the range to Air Fry your foods, expect to cook them a little longer and at a higher temperature than normally cook them to achieve equivalent results.
However, it will not replicate the actual tabletop Air Fryer.
Alternatively, you could also use your regular convection system set to a high temperature and then finish off your food under the broiler to get comparable results to an air fryer.
It might take a little longer and a little technique to perfect the results, but you can achieve similar results without buying a range for the air fry mode.

Can I Use Regular Air Fryer Recipes When Using An Air Fryer Oven
Yes! While these air fryer recipes are made specifically in air fryer ovens, you can also use any free recipes you find on the internet .
Here are some tips when using those recipes to make sure your food turns out perfect every time.
- Keep the same temperature listed in the recipe
- Air fryer recipes using a basket are created for one layer of food. Cook your food on the middle or lowest rack to ensure proper cooking
- If cooking on the top rack, keep a close eye on the food to make sure the top doesnt brown too quickly. Switch the racks around halfway through for even cooking
- An air fryer oven is larger, and I find that the food usually takes 2 to 10 minutes longer to cook. 2 minutes for quick cook items and 10 minutes for larger items, like whole chickens
- Use an Instant-Read Meat Thermometer to make sure your food is cooked all the way through. Since the food can take longer to cook in an air fryer oven, its important to make sure its done cooking before pulling it out to rest and eat.
