Though were not against stainless steel appliances , were always excited when a brand takes a break from the norm and gives us something a little different.
The KitchenAid KCO124BM digital air fryer oven is one such device. Though it isnt the prettiest machine weve ever seen, the black outer casing gives consumers that chance to own something a little different from the generic stainless steel look.
Down each side of this cooker are some small holes that act as air vents to help keep the appliance from overheating, though we think it needs a few more as this oven can run pretty hot. In addition, theres more ventilation on the back of the machine and a small amount underneath it.
KitchenAid recommends a minimum of 4 inches of clearance all around this cooker when youre using it to prevent overheating or damage to your kitchen.
Unlike many rival models, the door spans the entire width of the cooker, with the control system residing underneath. Unfortunately, the position of the control panel means the door needs to be closed before you can access any of the dials and buttons. This could be inconvenient to some people, but its no big deal for the most part. And theres an attractive polish steel trim around the edges of the door.
The stainless steel handle is nothing to write home about, but it performs its job as you would hope.

The KitchenAid Digital Countertop Oven With Air Fryer is a great air fryer that can do a lot more. As the controls sit below the oven, the cavity is large enough to hold a 13 by 9 baking dish, yet doesnt take up excessive countertop space.
While its roasting and baking performance was disappointing, it did a beautiful job of toasting bread evenly and toasted more quickly than other toaster ovens. It was a good all-round performer for air-frying as well, with the exception of chicken wings. We think it would be a great choice for people who want to air fry scratch fries and toast bread regularly. However, the door grows excessively hot in use, so its not one to have around small, unsupervised children.
Compared to the Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven, a similar model which weve also tested, the KitchenAid scored more highly for frying French fries, both frozen and fresh. However, the Cuisinart produced better chicken and achieved a higher mark for ease of use as well, mainly due to KitchenAid lacking detail in the manual.

GE Appliances has added air frying and dehydrating capabilities to its Cafe and GE Profile lines of built-in wall ovens.
The company says its the only manufacturer to incorporate both dehydrating and hot air frying into an oven, a move that capitalizes on the current popularity of air fryers. GE reports that four million stand-alone air fryers were sold over a recent 12 month period.
An air fryer can reduce the amount of fat and calories in your food, allowing people and families to eat healthier, says Paul Bristow, executive director of product management of built-in cooking at GE Appliances. The benefit of an air fryer is that oil is replaced by a fan that blows hot air down onto the food, delivering a cleaner and healthier cooking experience with a crispy result that gives a great crunch.

The KitchenAid Digital Countertop with Air Fry performed reasonably well across our cooking metrics. It produced moist baked goods, crisp but not burnt toast, and almost perfect frozen pizzas. It does struggle with temperature accuracy, and given the price point, it does not outperform similarly priced options. It’s worth buying if you find it on sale, but it wouldn’t be our first choice. While our testers generally enjoyed using this toaster oven, you can find better-valued options elsewhere when it comes down to it. It performed above average in most metrics but was rarely a top performer. Combined with its abysmal temperature accuracy scores, it is a tough sell since it is in the same price range as the two highest-scoring toaster ovens.

Other Features And Accessories To Note
Most of these ovens come standard with a baking tray, wire racks and mesh air fry basket. The air fry basket is meant to allow the circulating hot air to hit food at all angles and save you from having to turn it. These are great for fries and certain veggies, but beware that fatty foods, including chicken wings, will drip through as they cook and it aint pretty. I always use parchment paper when cooking things of that sort.
All but two of the ovens I tested the Crux and the Calphalon have an internal light, which is nice when you need it but not necessary by any means.
Every oven on this list has a digital interface with dials, buttons or both to control it, although some were much better than others. The Brevilles was the most complex, a result of all its many functions and cooking presets, while the Cuisinart interface was the only one I truly did not like. It drove me batty, in fact.
