However, its large footprint means an equally large capacity of 6 quarts / 5.7 liters, and thanks to its multitude of cooking methods as weve mentioned it can now grill and dehydrate as well as air-fry, roast, bake, and reheat you should be able to consign a few of your other kitchen gadgets to the cupboard, so countertop space shouldnt be an issue.
The Vortex Plus retains the square shape of the Instant Vortex Air Fryer, including the square basket and dishwasher-safe crisper tray, but builds on this with a brushed stainless steel finish, although its not as fingerprint-resistant as you might hope.

Instant Vortex Accessories Size And Materials
When shopping for accessories, keep these tips in mind in order to get items that will both fit well in the air fryer and will be of appropriate materials.
Consider the internal size of the Vortex: The inside measurements of the Vortex are roughly 8 3/4 deep x 10 wide x 7 high. That is based on my own measurements. To be safe, I would not purchase pans or other items that exceed about 8 1/2x 9 1/2. Square 8×8 pans fit in it just fine!
Round items that fit the Instant Pot pressure cookers will usually also fit fine in the vortex. For example, I have used round my springform pan bought for my 6 Qt Instant Pot just fine in the Vortex.
Look for the terms mini or compact is the packaging and sales pages. Those often signal smaller items that might fit your air fryer.
You often need air space: If purchasing deep items, such as baskets, consider that you want air space between the top of the item and the fan and that you often want air circulation underneath. So, a basket would likely best be put on a tray set on the lowest rack position in order to leave air space below it. That in turn reduces the space between the the rack and the top to around 5 inches. Keep that measurement in mind when shopping.
Teflon is of concern to some people. It works just fine in the air fryer, but if you prefer to avoid it, look for stainless steel, aluminum, ceramic or other oven-safe pans and dishes.
Cleanup And Final Thoughts
The air fryer and rotisserie capabilities really shine on the Vortex Plus, but its the cleanup that might make it the most appealing air fryer ever. All of the accessories the racks, the rotisserie basket and fork are dishwasher-safe. If youve ever struggled to hand-wash the basket of another air fryer, the easy grease removal on the Vortex might move you to tears. The door can be removed for hand-washing, and the inside is easy to wipe clean between uses.

Now, Instant Brands is getting into the air fryer game with the $119 Instant Vortex Plus. I dubbed 2019 the year of the air fryer back in March, and this is proving my point. However, in true Instant fashion, it’s not just an air fryer. No, no, my friends. This is a 7-in-1 countertop cooker that can bake, broil, reheat, air fry, dehydrate, roast and rotate for rotisserie-style recipes.
This combination air fryer dreams big and gets a lot of things right, but it’s not without its flaws, and my testing experience left me hoping Instant will make improvements and rerelease it. Should you buy the Vortex Plus? For now, I’d hold off and hang on to your old air fryer. Here’s why.
Is The Instant Pot Vortex Plus Air Fryer Easy To Use
Yes, its very self explanatory and easy to use. Included is their very helpful starter guide and cooking time tables to walk you through the basic steps to cooking your first meal. The smart guides are also helpful to make it less intimidating when cooking. Dont let the size food you, as its quite large compared to other smaller air-fryer-only devices. But if you have the kitchen counter top space, youll find that youll be using the features more than you think. The Time and Temp buttons are separate, which is nice. Its very clear to see and implement time and temp separately. Some air fryer use the same buttons and you have to toggle back and forth between time and temp. Having them separate is helpful. The hot circulating air is very powerful too so youll get food crispy, quick.

Competition: Nothing Comes Close
Although its classified as a multi-use programmable air fryer, it doesnt seem fair to stack the Instant Vortex Plus up against standard air fryers. However, if youre looking for something thats a little more straightforwardAKA minimal bells and whistlesthere are some worthwhile choices.
Philips Avance Collection 2.75-Quart TurboStar Digital Air Fryer: If you want a user-friendly, effective air fryer, the Philips TurboStar is an excellent option. It has a 2.75-quart fryer basket and a 20-percent smaller design than its predecessor, so it wont take up as much counter real estate. Performance: Exceeded Our Expectations
As avid Instant Pot users, our expectations for the Instant Vortex Plus were admittedly high. We wanted to see the same level of performance from the brands first air fryer, and luckily, it didnt just live up to our expectationsit exceeded them.
For our first test, we tried out the Air Fryer setting by using the two included trays to cook up an entire package of bacon. When you hit the Air Fryer button, it defaults to a temperature of 400 degrees and a cooking time of 18 minutes. We knocked the time down to 12 minutes and then waited two to three minutes for the appliance to preheat. Once it was ready, the display lit up with an Add Food prompt. Then, once the cooking cycle was finished, the Vortex went into Cool mode to shut off the fan and then less than a minute later it displayed End, so we knew we could safely remove our bacon. The final product was two pans full of perfectly crispy bacon. Since the cooking trays have holes in them, most of the grease fell through to the drip pan, although a little bit from the first tray did collect on the second tray. Overall, it was still far less greasy than cooking bacon in a pan on the stovetop.
We were able to cook a whole chicken in just 45 minutesit was juicy and tender on the inside, and the skin had just the right amount of crispiness.
