Other Air Fryers We Reviewed
Unlike most of these appliances, the Cuisinart Compact AirFryer isnt oddly shaped like a huge egg or space capsule. Rather its a big stainless-steel cube that looks like a truncated toaster oven. While its boxy shape helps it fit more neatly on a countertop or in a cabinet, the Cuisinart still takes up a bit of countertop real estate .
Youll find the Cuisinart is a relatively uncomplicated appliance in terms of heating elements. It doesnt have cooking preset programs for specific foods or additional cooking functions like keep warm or dehydrate, to make the cooking process easier. You simply turn dials to set the temperature and the cooking time, and theres no need to preheat. Theres also a straightforward manual that includes recipes to get you started.
Since it has a wide air frying basket, food can be spread out to get more even and crispy results with relatively quick cooking times without the food drying out. Most others force you to pile the food on top of each other, which can create uneven results. Using the Cuisinart Compact AirFryer, homemade fries looked and tasted like they had been bobbing in a deep fryer vat of oil.
Air Fryers We Tested That Didn’t Make The Cut
We’ve reviewed a few air fryers by Krups. We like the Krups Easy Fry Deluxe Digital a bit better than the Krups Fry Delight thanks to its design and cooking results. However, neither are very close to mimicking the crispiness of food that came out of a deep-fat fryer.
Farberware 3.2 quart Digital Oil-Less Fryer is a very reasonably priced air fryer that does a decent job of crisping and browning, especially with frozen foods. But the basket sticks and it’s a little confusing to use.
The Power Air XL is small in size and capacity, generic in appearance, and its basket doesn’t glide out very smoothly.
The Black and Decker 2L Purifry is still a big appliance, yet comes with a much smaller basket. With no digital controls and tiny numbers, it’s really difficult to set a precise temperature setting.
While we’ve always loved the Instant Pot products, if you’ve never used an air fryer before, we can’t recommend company’s Instant Vortex Plus . Its “Getting Started Guide” was not very helpful and we found cooking with the included tray yielded better results than the basket the manufacturer suggested using. However, after lots of trial and error, this device produces solid results.
Gourmia 6 Quart Digital Air Fryer Review: Design
Sitting on the countertop, the Gourmia Digital Air Fryer looks like a large barrel, measuring 11 x 12.5 x 13.9 inches. It has a handle on the lower half for pulling out the basket.
On top there’s a large digital display with small buttons for the various pre-programmed settings. These are each displayed with both a name and an icon for example, one says seafood and shows an image of fish. When its not operating, the display goes to sleep for a streamlined look. We find the design somewhat generic its functional, but not easy on the eye.

What Can I Cook In An Air Fryer
A good air fryer can also be used as an oven to bake, broil and help cook meats, casseroles, or even desserts. They are, of course, limited by their size and dont offer any advantage here over a traditional oven. But if you use your oven for storage, it tends to heat up the kitchen, or you often wish you had an extra oven, these countertop appliances can come in handy.
One thing to know: These kitchen tools are big and oddly shaped, so they take up a lot of countertop space and arent easy to store.

Gourmia 6 Quart Digital Air Fryer Review: Verdict
In our opinion, the Gourmia Digital Air Fryer is one of the best models out there. It almost always gives great air fried results and can also be used effectively for roasting and broiling. The digital controls are particularly helpful and cleanup is pretty much a non-event as the basket can go in the dishwasher.
It might not be the one for you if you want to make fresh fries on a regular basis, but it scored well for the majority of recipes otherwise. Be cautious of small children though, because of the hot exterior.
Its not a particularly attractive product either, but were big believers that function is more important than design. Its less than half the price of our winning air fryer as well, the Cosori Smart Wifi Air Fryer 5.8qt. It didnt quite take the top spot of best value air fryer the GoWISE USA 3.7 Quart 8-in-1 Air Fryer nabbed this as it scored similarly and is $3 cheaper, so Gourmia just missed the spot!

Gourmia Reviews: What Do Customers Think
Time for this Gourmia air fryer review to take it to the streets and see what real people really have to say about this brand and its products. There are no customer reviews on the brand website itself, so we hunted down comments posted on the sites of Gourmias assorted retail partners.

Best Air Fryer Toaster Oven: Cuisinart Toa
If you prefer the versatility and extra space that comes from having an oven-style air fryer, theCuisinart TOA-60 is a great option. We loved the square shape and compact size of this oven . The large knobs were straightforward and easy to use and although this is subjective, we appreciated the lack of LCD screen. There was something about the tactile feel of using separate knobs to select the cooking mode, temperature and timer that made us feel in total control over the cooking process.
One of the primary reasons we chose this model over other oven-style fryers is that its fryer basket is just a little bit deeper than the other ones we tested. Its not by much, but just enough to make it noticeably easier to shake up fries or other loose items you may be air frying. We found shallower baskets are more likely to either send a few fries flying off, or just not allow you to shake them up effectively. The interior light was a nice perk as well, and made it easy to keep an eye on the food inside without opening it up and losing heat.
Performance-wise, theCuisinart TOA-60 cooked food to near perfection and even resulted in our favorite fries of the bunch.
One of the most valuable features of the Cuisinart is its 3-year warranty, the longest of any oven-style version we tested. That Cuisinart stands behind this product should address any concerns with the relatively high cost of this model.

Where Is Gourmia Made
Although Gourmia proudly announces that it is headquartered in Brooklyn, this is only the brands office and warehouse. The brand website does not specify where its products are made, but a bit of internet sleuthing reveals that the answer is almost certainly China, which is a major manufacturing location for appliances.
Gourmia Digital Air Fryer
If you’re not looking to drop a full Ben Franklin on your air fryer, know that you don’t have to but can still nab a quality air fryer oven for relatively cheap. Of the many we tested, the Gourmia was among the least expensive at under $50 but it performed quite well in most of the tests.
This five-quart oven cooked chicken wings especially well with crispy skin and juicy center, and we found the power nearly on par with the Ninja and Dash ovens. It also made very crispy French fries and toasty mozzarella sticks with a gooey center.
One small drawback for this machine is its slightly clumsy build. The basket didn’t slide into the oven as flush as you might want and that could ultimately lead to problems but it didn’t affect my use of it in any way. This air fryer also has a lot of presets which I don’t generally care for since they don’t account for how much food you’re cooking or the size of, let’s say, a chicken wing or thickness of your French fries. I find it’s always better to use a rough preset recommendation and a lot of progress checking the first few times you cook something. That way you’ll learn about the oven and its power for yourself.
All that said, this 4-quart digital air fryer has a lot of oomph for just $60 and it’s a great size for most kitchens.

What Exactly Is An Air Fryer
If you’re sorta, kinda not sure what an air fryer even is or why they’ve become so popular, let’s start there. The trendy air fryer is a fairly simple cooking machine that employs extremely hot, fast circulating air to flash-roast food inside of a contained frying basket. While there’s generally no or very little oil used, the results can be similar to that of traditional frying in that food comes out crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.

Air fryers heat up fast, cook quickly and make healthier versions of traditionally fatty fried foods, so what’s not to love? But it’s not just healthy versions of bar snacks. I use my air fryer for cooking skin-on chicken thighs to crispy perfection, veggies including mushrooms, pork chops, peppers, onions, and even seafood — namely shrimp, scallops and filets of fish. And because most air fryer baskets are nonstick, cleanup is often as simple as a quick spritz and wipe with a soapy sponge. Many are dishwasher safe too.

How To Use An Air Fryer
These devices are easy to use and often easy to clean. Always check with the manufacturer’s instructions, but most will follow these basic procedures:
1. Preheat before cookingYour air fryer needs time to come to temperature before you use it, just like your oven or skillet. In general, preheat the appliance at 375°F for three to five minutes, depending on the size of the fryer.
2. Dont overcrowd the food and lay food down flatJust like conventional frying, overloading your air fryer will not produce the best results. Adding too much foodespecially frozen foodsin the basket could produce soggy or uneven cooking results. It could also increase the cooking time.
3. Flip while fryingSome of the same principles of deep-frying apply to an air fryer: Don’t forget to batter and/or bread items properly before dropping them into the air fryer, and be sure to flip your food halfway through the cooking process.
Also, keep an eye on your food while it cooks. This will let you adjust timing as necessary and help get you used to your new appliance.
4. Clean the air fryer when you’re doneDont forget to clean the appliance after cooking and the device has cooled down. Food particles can get lodged in the nooks and crannies, building up over time and causing issues down the line.
