The Foodi As A Slow Cooker
Making the same beef stew using the Foodis slow-cooker function proved more challenging. After 8 hours of cooking on low , the beef was fine, just not as juicy and tender as the beef made using the slow-cooker function of our favorite multicooker. To understand why, we heated precisely 5 pounds of water in the Foodi on the low slow-cooker setting and tracked the temperature for 5 hours. We then compared the results to the results of the same test performed in our winner. In the Foodi, the water reached a maximum temperature of only 194.2 degreesabout 7 degrees lower than the maximum temperature of the water in our winner. Plus, it took nearly 3 hours for the water in the Foodi to reach its maximum temperature, and the temperature remained the same for about an hour as the machine was initially heating. By comparison, the water in our winner reached its maximum temperature of 200.9 degrees less than 30 minutes into the cooking cycle and stayed there for the remaining 7 hours. This drastic difference in temperature over time explains why the beef cooked in the Foodi wasnt as tender as the beef cooked in our winning multicooker.

What Is A Ninja Foodi And What Does It Do
If you aren’t sure exactly what a Ninja Foodi is or are unsure about all of its features, here is a brief description of what it does.
A Ninja Foodi with TenderCrisp technology is an electric kitchen appliance that functions as a multi-use cooker. Its two main features are pressure cooker and air fryer, but it also does so much more. Here are the features:
The following features are used with the pressure cooking lid on.
Pressure Cooker: The pressure cooking function can be set to Hi or Low and you can customize the time that you want the food to cook up to 4 hours. When using the pressure cooking function, you will turn the black valve on the top of the Foodi to seal. I have a great article that goes over the principles of pressure cooking and I encourage you to read it before getting started: Pressure Cooking 101
Steam: There is no temperature adjustment when using the steam setting. You can adjust the time up to 30 minutes. When using this feature it is important to make sure the black valve on the top is set to vent and not to seal.
Slow Cook: This function works like a slow cooker would and can be set to Hi or Low. You can customize the time up to 12 hours. When using this feature, you will want the black valve on the top set to vent and not to seal.
The following feature is used without a lid on the Ninja Foodi

Ninja Foodi Test #: The Entree
Looks are one thing, but testing is the only way to see if the Ninja delivers on its promise of being the only kitchen appliance youll ever need.
I decided to start off simple. A relatively straightforward Indian entree platter consisting of samosa, pakora and bhaji that would normally be oven-cooked or deep-fried seemed like the ideal way to test out the Ninja Foodis air frying capabilities. Just how much time, oil and effort could it save?
Most air fryers claim to dramatically reduce the oil or fat you need and claim to reduce this down to mere millilitres in most cases. But, this type of packaged food is usually already cooked to some degree, so I elected to take this a step further and forego adding any oil at all. Talk about living on the edge!
The packaging called for at least ten minutes in a 180°C fan-forced oven, so I thought that approximately seven minutes in the Foodis air fryer would do the trick.
The air fryer function really couldnt have been simpler to use. Step one is ensuring the TenderCrisp air-frying basket is in the Foodi within the main cooking pot. Step two is to place your food into said basket, and step three is to set your temperature and time using the digital touch display, close the lid, then press Start. Easy and so fast great for those busy weekdays.
Happily air-frying away. The arancini I tried a few days later also turned out terrific.
Can I Use Slow Cooker Liners In My Ninja Foodi
Yes, you can use the slow cooker liners in your Ninja Foodi. However, with the very advanced ceramic non-stick surface of the Ninja Foodi, you really dont need to use them.
I do have to admit, though, even if they are not needed, the cleanup is still easier with them in place. Also, I kind of lazily pick up the bag at the end of the evening, able to dump the entire thing into the storage container. These liners make it easier on two fronts.

Is The Ninja Foodi The Same As The Instant Pot
Not exactly, but kind of.
Instant Potinvented the pressure cooking game. Though the first Instant Pot model came out in 2008, the hype around a single kitchen device grew to unprecedented levels around 2015. People both seasoned food enthusiasts and those who only cook out of necessity obsessed over it so much that it felt like no appliance would ever even share the spotlight. But Ninja, a rather unexpected competitor that was seemingly focused on high-end blenders, found a way in.
This rivalry is stirring up some serious drama. The “Instant Pot vs. Ninja Foodi” debate is the center of countless articles, Reddit threads, and YouTube reviews. You can barely search for one without Google autofilling the other one.
This Reddit user, who is a proud Instant Pot owner, says that her best friend bought a Ninja Foodi specifically to one-up her. Using a pressure cooker to undermine a friendship? What a time to be alive.
Now Let’s Talk About Those Instant Pot Presets
I’ll bet you have read a recipe or two that says push the meat button to cook. Hello… I don’t have a meat button!
You don’t need one, trust me. Truth is, I have an Instant Pot with all the bells and whistles and those presets. I never use them unless I’m making yogurt.
Just in case you want to use the presets as a guideline for your Ninja Foodi recipes, here is a chart of temp & cooking times.
All those buttons are, are preset times and temps and they aren’t that accurate either. For example, the meat/stew button on the Instant Pot 8 quart Ultra sets the pressure cooker to cook on high for 35 minutes. Try cooking a chicken breast for 35 minutes on high pressure, I’ll bet you won’t be happy with the results.
I hope you are feeling a bit more confident on how to use the Ninja Foodi! I have so much more I want to share with you, I just couldn’t do it all in one post. Check out the next in this series: Pressure Cooking 101 OR enroll in our online course below.

Air Fryer Vs Pressure Cooker
There are lots of ways to cook meals and joints of meat and many companies will create some impressive machines to handle all the hard work for you. One popular approach in many households is to have a pressure cooker out on the counter. These robust machines use a high-pressure system to cook the food. Many will use this to cook meat but you can create some great all-in-one meals here too. You should be able to set it up right the right timer and function and leave it alone. Read this guide about best pressure cooker.
The same is true for an air fryer. These machines should have many of the same convenient features and hands-free approaches in countertop models. Air fryers work in a different way. They circulate hot air around the food items in the basket to offer a nice crispy finish. Therefore, if you want to make something like chicken wings or fries then you can get the right texture.

Is Ninja Foodi Even Good As A Slow Cooker
I saw this question several times online, and I have had a few people ask me very similar questions, including my mom.
The answer is YES the Ninja Foodi is great as a Slow Cooker. It has all the traditional settings, including a keep warm setting. But even better is how you can do additional steps if you would like.
For instance, when I make my slow cooker lasagna recipe, I like my cheese to be a little more burnt than the slow cooker does on its own. So what I do is throw a little more cheese on top when it is done just before serving and run the Tender Crisper to air fry some perfectly burnt cheese.
The other day I slow cooked a roast but wanted some of the fat to be just a little more done and crispy. So I did the same thing again and turned on the Tender Crisp to make that roast taste better than I could have imagined.
That is not even the best part. The other day we made some Rotel Cheese Dip. We were able to brown our meat, melt the cheese, and keep the dip warm using one pot!!! That was thanks to the Foodi and all of its different functionalities. Moms slow cooker wont do that.
Overall, anyone who likes to make soups, roasts, lasagnas, etc., in a regular slow cooker will feel right at home using the Ninja Foodi as their slow cooker of choice!
There are a few things to keep in mind when using your Ninja Foodi as a slow cooker. One thing you do not want to fill past your Max line on your pot. Keep reading for more tips!
How Much Liquid Should I Use When Pressure Cooking
This is a wildly-debated topic and I am only sharing my opinion based on numerous trials and errors when cooking under pressure. The quick answer is, it depends. I know, that’s not what you want to hear.
Unfortunately, there is not an exact amount of liquid as long as your pot is able to come up to pressure. Certain types of liquids are not suitable for creating steam needed for pressure cooking and might cause a burn notice such as, milk, cream-based soups, and tomato sauce. You can use these liquids, but you will also need to add a thinner liquid so your pot will come up to pressure. It is the thin liquid that produces the steam required to cook under pressure.
When deciding on the amount of liquid, keep in mind what you want your end result to be. For example, when making white rice I always use a 1:1 ratio of liquid to rice, if that is the only thing in the pot. When I made this yummy Jambalya Soup, I used 64 ounces of liquid . I don’t want any extra liquid when making rice, but I want my soup to be soup.
Also keep in mind what liquid will be released or absorbed from the food you are cooking. For example, a beef chuck roast will produce quite a bit of liquid on it’s own during the pressure cooking process. So, for a flavorful gravy, I might only add 1-2 cups of liquid with the understanding that I will end up with around 3-4 cups. Could I add 3 or 4 cups to begin with? Sure, but I would end up with a diluted tasting liquid not suitable for gravy.
