Dash claims to have a solution. The companys Tasti-Crisp Air Fryer is an affordable option that allows you to cook using up to 75% less fat than a traditional deep fryer. It features a redesigned crisper basket that allows you to cook more food faster, making it ideal for snacks and meals.
We wanted to find out if the Dash compact air fryer really could help you make healthier cooking choices more conveniently. So, we put the Tasti-Crisp to the test, and here’s what we discovered.

As the name suggests, this is a compact air fryer that ismeant to easily fit in your countertop. This would be a great pick for a coupleor someone living alone. This minimalist air fryer comes with a weight ofaround 5.7lbs, which is relatively easy to carry around the kitchen if you needto move it from one spot to another.
The space-saving size is one factor that made us go for thisone. Even if your countertop is already full, you can always find some spacefor this air fryer. Besides it being a compact air fryer, this unit has such astylish look.

Design: Compact And Lightweight
The Dash Compact Air Fryer lives up to its name by coming in at about half the size and weight of a standard air fryer it measures 10.2 x 8.1 x 11.4 inches and weighs just 5.7 pounds. The appliance has a 1.6-quart fry basket which is quite tiny compared to the 3.5-quart baskets youd find in typical air fryers. The miniature appliance best feeds one or two people as it can only hold about half a bag of frozen french fries or six chicken wings.
The Dash Compact has a sleek, oblong design that gives off a retro 80s feelespecially if you go for the aqua option, which is one of five available colors including black, white, red, and gray. We opted to go for gray as its a nice neutral tone that fits in with most kitchen designs.
Without any pre-programmed optionsyoull have to use trial and error to learn the most effective ways to cook your food.
The front of the air fryer houses a manual turn knob that you can use to set the cooking time . The handle of the frying basket is silver, regardless of what body color you choose, and sits front and center. On top of the air fryer, youll find another manual knob that you can use to set the cooking temperature. Below the temperature knob sit two indicator lights which let you know when the air fryer is on and cooking. Overall, we thought that the Dash Compact Air Fryer was well designed, so it wouldnt be an eyesore if youre short on cabinet space and have to keep it on the counter.

With its cylindrical shape and glossy finish, the Dash Compact Air Fryer has quite a sweet appearance.
Like all air fryers, the basket handle protrudes from its front. Its control panel consists of two dials, one on top to set the temperature and another on the front to set the timer. On your countertop, it will take up about the same amount of space as a coffee maker, measuring just 8.1 x 9.5 x 12.5 inches.

Using Your Compact Air Fryer
CAUTION: Do not touch the Basket during the frying and immediately after use, as it gets very hot. Only hold the Basket by the Handle.
NOTE: During the hot air frying process, the Heating Light process turns on and off from time to time. This indicates that the heating element is maintaining the temperature.
- Place the Compact Air Fryer on a stable, horizontal, and even surface and plug it into the wall socket.
Note: Do NOT place the appliance on a non heat-resistant surface.
- Carefully pull the Basket out of the Air Fryer and place the Fry Pan inside with the Pan Handle facing up.
- Place ingredients in the Basket, then slide the Basket back into the Air Fryer.
- Adjust the Temperature Control Dial to the specified temperature.
- Turn the Timer to your recipes specified time and now the Heating and Power Light will turn on.
- Once the Timer bell goes off, the frying session is done. Check if the ingredients are ready. If the ingredients are not ready yet, simply slide the pan back into the appliance and set the Timer to a few extra minutes.
- Once frying is complete, pull out the Basket and remove any larger ingredients using tongs. For smaller ingredients , simply take the Basket and empty the ingredients out onto a serving dish.

How Does An Air Fryer Work
Setting up the Tasti-Crisp air fryer was very simple, we just unboxed it, took off the plastic packing and inserted the grill plate, and it was ready to go. However, before the first use, the manufacturer recommends washing and drying the appliance.
For our initial test, we cooked three dishes: chicken tenders, coconut shrimp and zucchini chips. The cooking process was the same for each.
We cooked all three dishes in under two hours. While everything cooked as expected the chicken hit the right internal temperature this model only fits about one-third the amount of food as the 4-quart Ninja grill. If you are making dishes for more than one person, you may need to cook in batches.
Dash Compact Air Fryer Review: Cooking Performance
On our tests, the Dash Compact Air Fryer scored full marks for chicken wings, which is where it excelled. It also scored adequately for Brussels sprouts, frozen French fries and breaded chicken, although results were not as crispy as some larger models. It fell down on cooking scratch French fries though, which were not as crisp or moist as others wed seen.
Dash suggests preheating for three minutes before air frying. Theres no preheat setting you simply set your desired temperature and then the timer to heat the oven before you add your food. Once you add your food to the basket, you simply reset the timer.
Like other manufacturers, Dash says that the air fryers capacity is the amount the basket can hold, which in this case is 2 quarts. However, one pound is the maximum wed recommend cooking at once if you want even results. The diameter of the basket is just 6.25 inches, which definitely doesnt give you enough room to make fried chicken for more than 2 people at a time, especially as you get better crisping if you leave some room between the pieces for air to circulate.
A whole chicken would not fit in this oven and no mention is made of cooking one in the manual. Only one hamburger fit in the bottom of the Dash. It came out browned and juicy, but took 23 minutes to cook, whereas most air fryers needed 10 to 13 minutes.

In our opinion, the only true standout quality of the Dash Compact Air Fryer is its size. If youre looking for something thats the perfect size for a small apartment or an RV kitchen, this air fryer is it. But if you have a little more space and can handle going bigger, youre better off going with something else.
