This easy-to-use, easy-to-clean air fryer oven from the makers of the Instant Pot is a great choice for families. You can cook on up to two racks at once or cook a chicken rotisserie-style.

You can also use the rotating rotisserie basket to air fry items like french fries, ensuring that all sides are evenly cooked and crisp.

Unfortunately, this air fryer oven doesnt seem to be as well constructed as the popular Instant Pot, as several reviewers have reported quality-control issues.

How Can I Convert An Oven Cook Time To An Air Fryer Cook Time

If you look at my bro meals section of Air Fryer Bro, you will see I have cooked a wide variety of frozen food in my air fryer. This has given me real experience converting the oven cook times on food packets to something useable in an air fryer. What I came up with from those experiences was simple.

To change an oven cook time to an air fryer one, take the time required for a traditional oven and halve it. If you take a time for a fan assisted oven, you will need to use about 60% of the cook time. In both cases, cook for halve the time at the same temperature on the oven cooking instructions and take a look at your food. If it looks done, then test a small piece. Be ready to cook for another 5 minutes or so to finish off. If your food is slightly burned or charred, lower the cook time slightly next time.

This is not an exact science, but as you cook the same things several times, you will get an exact feel for the timings you need. This is not a one size fits all situation anyway, as every air fryer has a slightly different cooking strength.

Which Method Is Healthier

Heres the real question: Is the air fryer healthier than baking food in the oven? With the air fryer, you dont need to use any oil at all. Thats because the unit heats up so its hot enough to crisp your food without any added oil. I cant say that Ive ever been able to achieve that in an oven .

This being said, if little to no oil is being added to the dishes youre making in the air fryer, those dishes are just as healthy as if you would have baked them. The nutritionals arent changing, just the methodology, so air fry to your hearts content!

Best Countertop Oven And Air Fryer In : Ninja Breville Kitchenaid And More

A proficient countertop toaster oven with capable air fry function is the best of both worlds, and a space-saver to boot.

Improvements to the good old-fashioned oven are never in short supply. Some innovations, like convection cooking, which debuted in 1945, are difficult to imagine living without. Others land softly with an air of frivolousness and very little impact

Smaller countertop ovens are not new to the kitchen appliance world, and, at this point, neither are air fryers. What is new is a fusing of those two types of cookers into one hybrid convection oven with air fryer function, and a good one will do about as much as anything else you can buy for your kitchen. Iâve had one of these versatile hybrid ovens for about a year and find the uses for it many and the results rather delicious.

Refurbished Power AirFryer XL 6 QT Power Air Fryer Oven With 7 in 1 ...

Air fryers are all the rage, but can feel like a single-use appliance. Plus, they require significant countertop real estate. Air fryer toaster ovens tend to look like larger versions of your classic toaster oven, but come with all the functionality of a toaster oven, air fryer and even roaster combined. If your countertop already houses a toaster oven, consider this the ideal more-than-2-for-1 upgrade.

For one thing, the shape is sleek and angular, meaning it will fit more easily into a corner and sit flush against your backsplash. And most of these combo machines are stainless steel making them very durable, while many solo air fryers are shiny plastic that can feel like it’s a bit of a cheaper design. Another pro? The air fryer-toaster ovens are designed to hold more food. Many of these models can fit a 12-inch pizza, four-plus slices of bread and a whole chicken. No more batch cooking necessary, which means you can get dinner on the table for your whole family faster.

If You Have A Convection Oven Do You Really Need An Air Fryer To Make Air Fryer Recipes We Settle The Air Fryer Vs Oven Debate

Not too long ago, we demystified the air fryer craze and spilled the beans about whether we thought they were worth the investment. The question keeps coming up, though: Whats the difference between air frying and baking? We see it on Reddit forums and Facebook feeds, so we decided to break it down.

What Is Air Frying

Air frying is a heating element that is specifically designed to help you create your favorite fried foods in your kitchen. The Air Fry setting operates at much higher temperatures compared to traditional ovens, which quickly browns and crisps the surface of your food. It circulates a super-charged heat throughout the oven, so every french fry and egg roll is evenly cooked to crispy perfection. After a short burst of direct concentrated heat, your air frying range will gradually decrease the internal cooking temperature to ensure a golden exterior while maintaining a soft and juicy bite on the inside.

With just a touch of a button, you can enjoy your favorite fried food with all of the flavor and none of the guilt!

From traditional baking ovens to air fry ovens theres more than one way to heat your food. If youre comparing air frying vs. baking, ask yourself, which cooking style works best for you and your cooking style?

To understand how air frying works, its equally important to understand how baking works on a standard oven. When baking something in the oven, the temperature rises from underneath the heating elements and warms up the air. Your oven will increase gradually until it has reached the temperature you have selected and it will remain there during the duration of the cooking process.

With Only Slight Differences Which Appliance Is Better

Air fryers and convection ovens are excellent kitchen appliances that can upgrade any dish. Similarly, the two use circulated, hot air distributed by a fan to cook food evenly. While the air fryer has a ventilated basket and is generally smaller in size, the food tends to cook more evenly and end up crispier. In a convection oven, you can cook more food as the surface area of a sheet pan is larger). For a convection oven, the food will cook evenly through but food won’t turn out as crispy as an air fryer .

With only so many square feet of counter space in your home, what appliance should you invest in for your kitchen? Fortunately, the evolution of cooking and cooking appliances means multi-use machines. Companies such as Fotile have created appliances like the ChefCubii 4-in1 Steam-Combi Oven to help knock two birds with one stone by serving as a convection oven and an air fryer. Now, you don’t have to choose one over the other.

Tips For Getting The Best Results With Air Fry Mode In Your Ge Profile Oven

Is an Air Fryer just a Convection Oven? Let’s put it to the test.

Air frying is the big buzz for cooking enthusiasts. When you air fry, you use less oil and end up with a healthier, crispy, crunchy dish. And now, you can do this in select models of GE Profile ranges and ovens. Using our in-oven air fry mode may work slightly different than regular baking or even using a countertop air fryer. To help you create your crunchiest, tastiest air fried foods, weve compiled a list of tips to help you get the best results. So, read these pointers, grab your favorite recipe, and start air frying.

COOKING WITH NO PREHEAT AIR FRY

  • With air fry mode, you wont need to preheat. Just put your food directly in a cold oven and start cooking. If you’re air frying multiple batches, keep a close eye on those cooked after the first batch. They may cook more quickly and can burn.
  • If youre using a recipe meant for a countertop air fryer, you may need to cook your food a little longer or at a slightly higher temperature.
  • To cook packaged foods using the air fry mode, use traditional oven cooking instructions for the temperature and cook time. But remember, don’t preheat!
  • We recommend using a rack position that places your food in about the center of the oven. For thicker foods, or if you notice foods cooking too quickly, try a lower rack position.
  • While cooking, if you notice your food is browning too quickly, move it to a lower rack position and/or lower the temperature slightly.

How A Convection Oven Works

Because of their ability to cook food more evenly and quickly compared to traditional ovens , convection ovens have been staples for chefs, bakers and even serious home cooks for years.

“In convection ovens, the air is heated by a heating element and the convection style of heating cooks food evenly because of how the air moves . Convection ovens also use exhaust systems to remove air and fans to help air circulate within the oven,” according to Home Appliance Hero.

Many ovens available at your local appliance store come outfitted with a convection setting, which allows you to switch between conventional cooking and convection cooking. By turning this feature on, a fan and exhaust system get to work circulating the heat in the oven around your food. This heat is typically drier, making the cooking time faster by about 25% compared to a conventional oven.

Solo Air Fryer: Best For Most People

The most basic of air fryers looks like a small robot. They are generally just a cylindrical base with a basket to hold the food that pulls in and out. These come as small as two quarts and can be as big as six or seven. These models come with digital controls or manual dials. There are also air fryers with dual compartments so you can make two types of food at different temps simultaneously. Ninja makes a particularly good one with two 4-quart cooking baskets .

Solo air fryers are the least expensive too, and they can be had for as little as $30. I’d say if you just want to try air frying but don’t want to commit a lot of money or kitchen space, opt for one of these.

Ninja’s basic air fryer oven is one of the best we’ve tested.

How To Choose The Best Air Fryer

Air fryers differ in size and versatility, so it’s worth considering the following while you do your research.

  • What would you like to cook in it?
  • How many people are you cooking for?
  • How much space do you have?
  • What is your budget?
  • Do you have a specific requirement for ease-of-use? For example, large, clear function icons and controls, or perhaps an audible indicator for when each function has finished?

If it’s simply a healthier, more efficient method of cooking chips that you’re after, you can narrow your search down to one without bells and whistles, and save some pennies on a machine that does the core function well.

Top tip: Watch out for those that will require you to part-boil the cut potatoes prior to crisping â air fryers worth having should be able to fully cook chips on their own.

Air Fryer Apple Chips

These Air Fryer Apple Chips are another quick favorite snack for me and my girls. Its just one way I can make them get that apple a day to keep the doctor away. I used 1 Gala apple for this recipe.

Amount: 1 large Gala apple sliced into 2.5mm slices.

Preheat: None. I start apple chips from a cold basket. My air fryer oven does an automatic preheat time, so I adjusted the oven cook time to accommodate that.

  • Basket: Cooked for 16 minutes to reach desired crispiness.
  • Oven: Cooked for 17 minutes to reach the desired crispiness.

Winner: The oven, by a little. My husband said the ones in the oven tasted crispier. I thought they were the same. Id say its a tie and with only a one-minute difference, Id prefer to do these in the oven since there is more space.

Which One Is Healthier

Cooking with an air fryer instead of a convection oven does not produce healthier food per se, but there is an advantage to using an air fryer if youre trying to cut back on caloriesnamely, that the design prevents food from sitting in and absorbing excess oil. In other words, frozen French fries prepared in an air fryer will be healthier than the deep-fried kind, which have been steeped in oil in order to achieve that satisfying texture. That said, when it comes to health considerations the air fryer vs oven question is kind of a moot point: If you dont typically use oil when heating up frozen foods in the oven, all the air fryer really gives you is a crispier snack, while sparing you the hassle of having to turn it halfway through the cooking time. That said, in instances when youre adding oil to a dish, the air fryer is healthier…and its always better for you than a deep-fried indulgence.

The Pros And Cons Of An Air Fryer

  • With an air fryer, you can’t see inside. This might not be super important, but being able to see your food can help judge doneness.
  • Air fryers are louder than a convection oven. Philips says its air fryer generates 65 decibels, which is about as loud as a vacuum cleaner.
  • An air fryer is more expensive than a comparable convection oven. A top air fryer might run $250, but a $150 convection oven will cook more food and more varieties of food
  • Air fryers take up less space. A convection oven will pretty much have to live on your countertop full-time, whereas an air fryer can go in a cupboard when you’re not using it .
  • Air fryer cleanup is more difficult. With an air fryer, you have the perforated basket to clean along with the bucket that it fits in. If you’re cooking something like chicken wings, there will be a lot of dripping. With a convection oven, you just clean the pan.

When To Use The Oven Instead Of The Air Fryer

Oven vs. Air Fryer Taste Test

If you’re cooking multiple items at once, the convection oven is the way to go! Roast trays of your favorite vegetables, bake casseroles, pizzas and, of course, sweets like cakes and cookies.

Since convection cooking is faster than conventional cooking, make sure to properly adjust your temperatures.

What Can You Cook In An Air Fryer

If you think about the best fried foods — chicken wings, fried chicken, french fries, mozzarella sticks — those are all great candidates for an air fryer. You’ll get similarly crispy and browned outsides with insides that don’t overcook.

The Instant Pot Duo Crisp air fryer and multicooker turned out some excellent air-fried chicken.

An air fryer can actually do quite a bit more than a solo air fryer since it’s really an oven. You can cook fish , vegetables, pizza and bread. You can also warm food or reheat leftovers and much more.

Some of my all-time favorites to cook in an air fryer include “fried” chicken with the skin on just a quick dredging of egg and seasoned flour and then 25 minutes on high. I also love potato wedges in the air fryer as well as Brussels sprouts, dumplings , and seasoned mushrooms with chopped garlic.

What Is Air Frying Anyway And How Does It Work

Despite what it sounds like, air frying doesnt actually fry your food. Instead, air fryers are mini convection ovens that use fans to rapidly circulate hot air, cooking food faster and more evenly than a standard oven does.

Convection has been around for more than a century. The first commercially sold convection ovens were developed by the W. L. Maxson Corporation in the 1940s as a way to reheat frozen food for airplanes. And they worked much the same as todays air fryers and convection toaster ovens do: As the fan circulates hot air around the food, it crisps the outside in a way that mimics deep frying. But your tastebuds will tell you that air-fried food isnt anything like traditionally deep-fried food in flavor and texture.
