Air Fryer Vs Microwave
Some microwaves are beginning to offer air fry settings or other features that help achieve crispy, fried-like results. One of the main differences between these two appliances is that an air fryer or countertop oven circulates dry heat that helps remove moisture from the exterior of foods, while microwaves use electromagnetism to accelerate particles within the food.
If you are looking for optimal results on your air fried creations, choosing an appliance specially designed for the task usually cant be beat. However, just as with countertop ovens or full-sized ovens, most types of microwaves generally offer more functions than a standalone air fryer. Depending on how often you plan to make air fryer recipes, you could opt for just a microwave with cripsing features. Select KitchenAid® microwaves feature Crispwave Microwave Technology and a Crisper Pan that can be used to brown, crisp, and pan-fry foods.
Best Quiet: Taotronics Air Fryer Tt
Doesnt have a full touchscreen
Presets need some adjustment
Love air-fried food, but not the noisy fans that accompany many air fryers? This model is well-rated for being ultra quiet. In fact, our product tester said she could barely hear it when it was turned on.
Like most air fryers, the cook can manually select the cooking time and temperature or use one of 11 cooking presets to prepare fries, steak, bacon, fish, shrimp, vegetables, chicken, potatoes, bread, cake, or thawing frozen snacks. The cooking basket holds 6-quarts, is nonstick, and is dishwasher safe.
The square-shaped design of this model gives you more room to fit food in the cooking basket compared to smaller fryers with rounded baskets. Our product tester noted the basket shape helps spread food out a bit more versus piling it on top of each other, which can lead to less crisp cooking results.

“When I first started testing it, I actually turned it off and on a few times, because it was so quiet, I didnt think it was working.” – Lindsay Boyers, Product Tester
Solo Air Fryer: Best For Most People
The most basic of air fryers looks like a small robot. They are generally just a cylindrical base with a basket to hold the food that pulls in and out. These come as small as two quarts and can be as big as six or seven. These models come with digital controls or manual dials. There are also air fryers with dual compartments so you can make two types of food at different temps simultaneously. Ninja makes a particularly good one with two 4-quart cooking baskets .
Solo air fryers are the least expensive too, and they can be had for as little as $30. I’d say if you just want to try air frying but don’t want to commit a lot of money or kitchen space, opt for one of these.
Ninja’s basic air fryer oven is one the best we’ve tested.

Best Two Basket: Ninja Foodi 6
Smart Finish for coordinated finish time
Extra space for large batches
Takes up a lot of counter space
Large batches cook longer
With two separate cooking baskets and heating zones, this air fryer enables you to cook different foods with different cooking times and temperatures at the same time. You won’t have to choose between air frying wings or fries on game days and can prepare a complete meallike air-fried chicken with crispy Brussel sprouts or sweet potato wedges on the side.
The magic lies in the “Smart Finish” feature, which lets you program the air fryer with two cook times and temperatures for different foods. The air fryer will automatically start the basket with the shorter of the two cook times so both baskets are finished cooking at the same time.
There are six cooking presets, including air fry, air broil, roast, bake, reheat, and dehydrate. Our tester found this air fryer cooks faster than other models and the cook time on most recipes needed to be shortened for best results. However, if you’re looking for added space and the convenience of cooking two different foods at the same time, our reviewer highly recommends this model.

How An Air Fryer Works
Air fryers circulate hot air around your food in a similar way to how a convection oven doesthey’re powered by a small fanexcept in a smaller space. These countertop appliances are friendly for small kitchens, and they preheat fast. The perforated tray or basket where your food goes can easily pull out with no oven mitt required, and even helps circulate the air faster, decreasing the cooking time. Since the air fryer is smaller, you have to make sure your food isn’t too crowded in the basket, so air can flow freely and cook your food properly, evenly and quickly.
What Is A Traditional Oven
Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably already know what a traditional oven is. However, we want to detail how they work, as this will give you a clearer idea about the comparisons we make later.
To put it simply, an oven is a sealed chamber used to maintain heat for the purposes of baking or roasting.
Usually an oven will have heating elements on the top and bottom of the cooking compartment. If you want to grill, you would use only the top heating element, using both to roast or bake.
Later in the ovenâs life, they introduced the idea of a fan assisted oven or convection oven. You may be saying that these types of ovens are exactly the same as an air fryer. Well, they are, in fact, different. Fan assisted ovens usually have a much smaller and less powerful fan than an air fryer.

How Is Air Frying Different From Baking In An Oven
Conventional ovens work by producing heat from an element . The heat is slowly dispersed through the oven over time. In the case of convection ovens, that time is sped up by the use of a fansimilar to the one in an air fryer.
On the other hand, air fryers use rapid air technology to create heat instead of an element. That helps them heat up much more quickly than an oven . That small size helps them circulate the heat more evenly, crisping up your food without hot spots.
Want to make sure your air fryer goodies get that golden hue of traditionally fried food? Try this simple trick.
Which One Is Better
Both air fryers and ovens have proven to be invaluable culinary tools in the home, with pros and cons for both.
Air fryers produce a more intense heat, letting you cook and reheat food faster than conventional ovens. Theyre great where you want really crispy results, such as for chips or even frozen foods. Their biggest downside is that cooking for large groups of people will likely have to be done in batches, and many recipes require frequent basket shaking for best results.
Ovens have far larger capacities and, generally, more cooking modes. When youre cooking for lots of people or you just need more room, say for cooking bread, cakes or Yorkshire puddings, an oven is best.
Having said that, theres definitely a place for both if youve got the budget and space, providing you with all sorts of flexibility to start enjoying more food than ever.

Editors Note:Air frying is the newest feature on many ranges. It seems straightforward enough to use heat to crisp up your food instead of frying it in oil.
The technology is available locally. I am a fan of B.Good and their healthy fries .
While Air Fry modes are touted as the next big feature, the better question is: Does it work?
Air frying has become one of the biggest cooking trends lately following the Instant Pot craze.
Typically done in a tabletop device, a couple of appliance manufacturers have attempted to include air frying modes in a standard range.
It makes sense to utilize the existing technology in the range and market it with the trendy label – if it works.
In this article, I tested out two different ranges, GE and LG, with the Air Fryer mode and compared it to a tabletop air fryer .
Let’s get started.
What Can You Cook In An Air Fryer
If you think about the best fried foods — chicken wings, fried chicken, french fries, mozzarella sticks — those are all great candidates for an air fryer. You’ll get similarly crispy and browned outsides with insides that don’t overcook.
The Instant Pot Duo Crisp air fryer and multicooker turned out some excellent air-fried chicken.
An air fryer can actually do quite a bit more than a solo air fryer since it’s really an oven. You can cook fish , vegetables, pizza and bread. You can also warm food or reheat leftovers and much more.
Some of my all-time favorites to cook in an air fryer include “fried” chicken with the skin on just a quick dredging of egg and seasoned flour and then 25 minutes on high. I also love potato wedges in the air fryer as well as Brussels sprouts, dumplings , and seasoned mushrooms with chopped garlic.

Air Fryer Vs Traditional Oven Who Wins
Airfryer Bro is supported by its readers. If you buy something with our links, we may earn a commission.
Welcome back to Air Fryer Bro, and we are looking at a growing question for a lot of people these days. This is a question a lot of people outside the air fryer world will be wondering. Is an air fryer better or worse than a traditional oven? Well, today we hope to start you off thinking about this more, and giving our own opinion in the process.
Just to be clear, we want to compare an air fryer to a traditional build in oven, as this is the comparison that a lot of potential buyers of air fryers are thinking about.
Is an air fryer better than an oven? The short answer is that there is no winner! It depends on the needs of your household. For most people, it will come down to size. If you have a large family and you are cooking large batches, a traditional oven would be better. However, if you have a need for smaller batches, then an air fryer would fit that need much better due to the compact size. If you have the need for both, you will probably end up buying both!
Hate To Break It To Ya
Neither an air fryer nor convection oven is a deep-fryer. If you expect yummy, decadent deep-fried results from either of these appliances, prepare to be disappointed. But if you are not into deep-frying, and anxious to eat more healthfully, and are not even hoping for deep-fried results, you will love the heat+fan results of air frying.
You can get amazing results either way by adding a small amount of oilspraying it on or tossing those veggies, meat pieces, etc., in oil. And you really can 80% less oil than deep-frying to create amazing results!
Dont be fooled by fat removal technology. That just means fat and oil can drip out onto the drip tray. Nothing magic there.

Air Fryer And Multicooker: An Air Fryer That Does It All
These are the most advanced and versatile air fryers and they do a whole lot more than air fry. Think Instant Pot but with an air fryer function as well. Ninja’s Foodi multicooker and the Instant Pot Duo Crisp are two popular models, and if you want an air fryer and multicooker or pressure cooker but don’t have a lot of kitchen space to relinquish, one of these is a great option. I’ve used the 6-quart Duo Crisp a bunch and find it works really well, turning out some of the most delicious fried chicken ever These models generally retail for about $175 to $250
The Pros And Cons Of An Air Fryer
- With an air fryer, you can’t see inside. This might not be super important, but being able to see your food can help judge doneness.
- Air fryers are louder than a convection oven. Philips says its air fryer generates 65 decibels, which is about as loud as a vacuum cleaner.
- An air fryer is more expensive than a comparable convection oven. A top air fryer might run $250, but a $150 convection oven will cook more food and more varieties of food
- Air fryers take up less space. A convection oven will pretty much have to live on your countertop full-time, whereas an air fryer can go in a cupboard when you’re not using it .
- Air fryer cleanup is more difficult. With an air fryer, you have the perforated basket to clean along with the bucket that it fits in. If you’re cooking something like chicken wings, there will be a lot of dripping. With a convection oven, you just clean the pan.
Tips For Getting The Best Results With Air Fry Mode In Your Ge Profile Oven
Air frying is the big buzz for cooking enthusiasts. When you air fry, you use less oil and end up with a healthier, crispy, crunchy dish. And now, you can do this in select models of GE Profile ranges and ovens. Using our in-oven air fry mode may work slightly different than regular baking or even using a countertop air fryer. To help you create your crunchiest, tastiest air fried foods, weve compiled a list of tips to help you get the best results. So, read these pointers, grab your favorite recipe, and start air frying.
COOKING WITH NO PREHEAT AIR FRY
- With air fry mode, you wont need to preheat. Just put your food directly in a cold oven and start cooking. If you’re air frying multiple batches, keep a close eye on those cooked after the first batch. They may cook more quickly and can burn.
- If youre using a recipe meant for a countertop air fryer, you may need to cook your food a little longer or at a slightly higher temperature.
- To cook packaged foods using the air fry mode, use traditional oven cooking instructions for the temperature and cook time. But remember, don’t preheat!
- We recommend using a rack position that places your food in about the center of the oven. For thicker foods, or if you notice foods cooking too quickly, try a lower rack position.
- While cooking, if you notice your food is browning too quickly, move it to a lower rack position and/or lower the temperature slightly.

What Is An Air Fryer Basket
An air fryer basket, also known as a countertop air fryer, is a conventional air fryer with a free-style basket. The results of cooking using an air fryer with a basket mimic the results of deep-frying .
With an air fryer basket, the heating mechanism helps to circulate the heat around your food rapidly.
The countertop air fryer comes in various sizes, ranging from 3 to 5 quarts. A 5 quart appliance would be best for a family of 1 to 2 people.
Is an air fryer basket the right kitchen appliance for you?
A countertop air fryer is the perfect kitchen appliance for you if you are cooking for a few people and you air fry regularly.
Other benefits of cooking using an air-fryer with a basket include:
- Most air fryer baskets are available at a variety of price points, depending on the size and features. Therefore, you can purchase one without going beyond your budget.
