Recently I was in the market for a value-priced air fryer option that I could use as a gift for friends during the upcoming holiday season. The basket comes with a piece of cardboard between the basket and the frying chamber that obviously needs to be removed, but other than that, the machine is ready to cook right out of the box.
Personally, I like to give all my cooking equipment a quick rinse with hot water before the first use, and here I ran into my only issue with setup. It took me a second to figure out how to release the frying basket from the removable cooking chamber. It is attached with a spring-loaded button release on the handle. Once I understood how to properly release the basket, it was a breeze, but it took me a minute of fiddling with the release to get it to engage the first time.

Nuwave Brio Air Fryer Vs Instant Vortex Plus
These two air fryers are quite similar in form and function. They are both basket style air fryers, they both have a 6-quart capacity and digital controls. They have clean lines and sleek designs and are similarly priced, with the Instant Vortex Plus coming in slightly higher on the cost side than the Nuwave Brio.
The Nuwave Brio comes equipped with a removable basket and cooking rack, while the Instant Vortex Plus has an all-in-one design for their cooking chamber. The Instant Vortex has a very similar digital control panel in comparison to the NuWave, but it does come equipped with an added function that is not included in the Nuwave model – a dehydrator option. This is a great ability that I love to see in a combo-cooker item like this, mostly because I love vegetable chips and beef jerky. While I love dehydrated foods, I don’t love having a dehydrator around. They are bulky, and I’m not usually a fan of a product that only handles one job, so having the added benefit of a dehydrator option is always a big benefit for me.
If sticking to a budget and choosing the air fryer that provides the greatest value is your ultimate goal, I would go with the Nuwave Brio. However, if the added benefit of a dehydrator option is an attractive feature, I would go with the Instant Vortex. Regardless of your choice, you can be sure that either model will produce excellent quality results every time!

During our tests, the NuWave Brio 6 Quart Digital Air Fryer scored relatively well across the board, especially for air frying Brussels sprouts, for which it achieved top marks. We have seen better browning and crisping from other models, but the results were very tender and moist. It fell down somewhat on its performance with the chicken wings it produced, which again werent very browned or crisped. However, it roasted a chicken well, achieving full marks for this.
It is complicated to program the NuWave because it has so many functions. Before you even begin cooking, you need to read the manual carefully and then keep it nearby for reference. For pre-programmed cooking, theres a button labeled Program once you select it, you enter a number from 1-100 for the various presets. Twenty are listed on the machine itself, but you need to refer to the laminated Quickstart Guide that comes with the air fryer for the other 80. You can also create up to 50 presets, assign them numbers, and save them into memory. Another option is to program the oven for multi-stage cooking, which means it will automatically switch from one temperature to another. When you are cooking something like chicken or steak that you want cooked to a specific temperature, you can use the probe.

Furthermore, the Ninja Max also comes with a broiler stand that allows you to elevate food closer to the heating element, should you wish to broil any of your recipes at the end.
Aesthetically the Ninja Max XL and the Nuwave Brio are incredibly similar with a sleek black finish, polished lines, and a bright, easy-to-read, digital display. Both machines have an identical temperature range and top out at 450° F., which is more than hot enough to crisp even the trickiest of foods.

I am an avid fan of anything that has wifi connectivity and can be tied into a smart device, so when I looked at the specs for the COSORI Smart WiFi Air Fryer, I was truly excited to see that had a ton of connectivity options. Much like the Nuwave Brio Digital Air Fryer in form and function, it has the added benefit of being able to pair with just about any of your smart devices, from your tablet/phone to Alexa or Google, via a smart home device.
Size-wise the COSORI Smart WiFi Air Fryer is slightly smaller than the Nuwave Brio, at 5.8 quarts, versus the 6 quart capacity of the Nuwave. They do hold identical volumes of food at 3 lbs. of chicken wings or French fries, so regardless of your choice, you won’t be sacrificing any cooking ability.
Aesthetically they are both similar in their black coloring and cool blue digital displays. The outer finish of the COSORI model is matte and textured, where the Nuwave is a high gloss, reflective finish. In this case, I prefer the COSORI finish because it won’t show fingerprints and grease spots nearly as much as the Nuwave model, but that is simply an aesthetic preference on my part. The Nuwave is a very sleek and attractive machine, while the COSORI model feels a bit more squared and squat, despite having very similar dimensions.
Power-wise the COSORI model runs at 100w less than the 1800w Brio Air Fryer, and it doesn’t offer the same ability to select different wattages, which is a great feature for the Nuwave model.

Easy Air Fryer Recipes
First up on our list is air fryer bacon. This is really one of the easiest recipes because all you need to do is put the bacon in the air fryer in a single layer. I like to use wright brand thick cut bacon and I cut it in half so it will fit in the air fryer. The air fryer I use is 5.7 quarts so that will hold about 5 pieces of bacon cut in half. If your air fryer is smaller, it would not hold as much.

I set the temperature of the air fryer to 350F and I set the time to 9 minutes. If you use thinner bacon, check it after 5 minutes and then every minute after that because it will cook fast!
A quick tip on cooking bacon in the air fryer. If you want to cook more than one batch, make sure you drain the grease after each cook time. It will start to smoke if you don’t.
Next on my list of easy air fryer recipes is chicken wings. I will never cook chicken wings any other way again! They come out perfectly and so crispy! Plus, no dirty oven pan!
I always spray my air fryer with cooking spray when I make chicken wings because they are prone to sticking. I lay them in a single layer and I pat them dry with paper towels. Then I season with salt and pepper.
Now we just cook them at 380F for 25 minutes. I like to open the air fryer basket every 5 minutes or so and shake them so they cook evenly .
After the 25 minutes are up, I increase the temperature to 400F and cook for 3-5 minutes more.

While the buttons on the control panel are easy to read and press, programming this air fryer is complicated. There is an inner and outer basket that you can easily pull out of the unit and replace. When you want to separate them for cleaning, you simply press a button.
Most of the exterior surfaces, including the handle and panel, stay cool enough that they can be touched without causing a burn, but the bottom of the front reached a temperature of 151.7°F in operation. As it air fries, this appliance has a dBA reading of 63.4, which is louder than the average air fryer about the equivalent to a room air conditioner.
Both the exterior and the interior baskets are coated with a nonstick finish and can be cleaned on the top rack of the dishwasher. The stainless steel grid on the bottom of the basket can collect gunk and can be difficult to clean however.
