  • Season your steaks. I combine my favorite steak rub with a good amount of brown sugar in it. This is the secret right here! The sugar caramelizes as the steak cooks, helping it brown and giving it a nice crust, and a subtle smokey flavor. Dont worry it doesnt actually make the steak sweet!
  • Let your steak come to temperature. Pull your steaks out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you want to start cooking them. This takes the chill off of them so they cook quicker and more evenly.
  • Preheat your air fryer. Even if your air fryer instructions dont call for preheating, Ive found that steaks come out best when you place them in a hot fryer basket. This helps the outside of the steak sear quickly, locking the juices inside.

Air frying food is one of the healthiest ways of cooking a steak. It produces a very low amount of bad cholesterol and almost no saturated or trans fats.

However, I must warn you that when you cook your steak in an air fryer it will not be as crispy as one cooked in hot oil.

This is because the absence of grease prevents browning from taking place.

The Maillard reaction is what makes your steak juicy and crispy, so the absence of it will make your steaks come out flatter than expected. They might also take longer to cook because of this.

Air frying steak is great, especially if your someone who is on a diet and cannot cook a steak in hot oil, but still want a crispy and delicious meal.

Tips And Tricks To Perfect Air Fryer Steaks & Faqs

This recipe is incredibly easy to get perfect steak with a crunchy crust and juicy, tender center but there are a few things you can do to make sure your steaks are a knockout every time.

Cook hot and fast. For the crunchy crust and rich meaty flavor you get from a steakhouse, you want to cook steak as hot and fast as possible, so use the highest heat you can in your air fryer.

Let come to room temperature. Steaks that have come to room temperature before cooking can crisp on the outside faster, and allows the fat to render more. Simply let steaks rest on the counter for 20-30 minutes before cooking while you prep the rest of your meal.

Pat steaks dry. Steaks with excess moisture or water will not crisp and risk boiling instead of broiling giving you tougher, chewier, gray meat. Simply pat dry with a paper towel to make sure your steaks are completely dry before rubbing with oil.

Add oil. Before air frying, we will be adding a little oil to help seasoning stick and crisp the outside of the steak aa bit more when air frying. Think of this as just a drizzle for your steaks they should just glisten from the oil, they dont need to be soaked in oil.

Season well. Before air frying, be sure to season steak well. Use your favorite steak seasoning, herbs de provence, Montreal steak seasoning, or rub.

Let steak rest. All steaks need to rest for 5 minutes after cooking before serving and slicing to let juices set and prevent steak from drying out.)

  • Can I Reheat Steak In An Air Fryer

Air Fryer Marinated Steak with {VIDEO} is a quick and easy recipe that ...

Air fryers are not made to reheat food, but you can try.

The best way to reheat steak in an air fryer is by using the Air Fry function on your machine.

If it doesnt have one, then preheat the air fryer at a temperature of 350°F and put in the steak you want to reheat.

Then, flip it halfway through so both sides can get crispy.

This method should give your steak the same consistency as freshly cooked steak, but watch out! Because the center of it might still be cold if your air fryer takes a while to reheat food.

I personally dont recommend this method of reheating steak in an air fryer, but give it a try if you want to see what happens.

How Long Should I Cook A Steak In The Air Fryer

This will depend on a few factors the size of your steaks, your air fryer model, and your preferred final temperature.

I used New York strip steaks that were an inch thick and about 3/4 of a pound each, which is the size usually available at my local store. Air frying the steaks for 10 minutes, without flipping them, resulted in steaks that were a pretty perfect medium inside. Compare the color of the sliced steak above to the doneness chart below to see what I mean.

I will say that since not all air fryers are the same, and since people like their steaks at different levels of doneness , this is something that you probably want to be careful with the first time. Check the temp of your steaks at around 7 minutes if you like them rare or medium-rare. At around 8 minutes if you like them medium. Then go in for longer if needed.

Once youve done it one time though, youll know exactly what to do next time! And then that is where the beauty of air fried steaks really is. Once you know the time for your air fryer and your preferred doneness, you can set the air fryer to 400°F, put in your steaks, set a timer and walk away. Come back to perfectly cooked steak every single time!

Tips For The Best Air Fryer Steak

    Juicy Air Fryer Steak Recipe
    • Don’t try to cook too many steaks at once. You want them to be able to cook thoroughly and crisp and sear evenly, which won’t happen if you overload the basket to the point where they can’t lie evenly on the bottom.
    • Try a dry rub. This simple mixture creates a beautiful, brown crust: 2 parts brown sugar with 1 part salt and pepper. Rub it on dry steaks and let rest for 10 minutes before cooking. You can mix in any additional spices you like.
    • Serve with garlic butter. To create an authentic steakhouse taste, combine a stick of softened butter and three cloves of chopped garlic in a mixer or food processor. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Flip the steak. Set a timer to remind yourself to flip the steak halfway through cooking to ensure it browns evenly. Some air fryer models will remind you automatically.

    • Steak: You want to select a steak that has some fat to it, like a ribeye or strip. This will help to ensure that the steak is juicy and flavorful. If your steak is too lean, it has a higher risk of coming out dry.
    • Oil and/or butter: Helps season the steak and creates a nice sear without having to pan-sear your beef first.
    • Salt and pepper: A high-quality cut of meat doesnt require anything else but salt and pepper to bring out its natural flavors.

    • I made this recipe with 1 8-ounce ribeye, but you could easily fit 2 smaller steaks of your choice and the recipe will work. The ingredients on this list are PER STEAK, so if making more, be sure to double them.
    • If using 2 steaks, make sure there is room for the air to circulate around and between them. Don’t over-crowd your air fryer!
    • If you are working with particularly thick steaks, you may need to add 1 minute per side.
    • For the best results, set your steaks out ahead of time so they can come to room temperature before cooking.
    • These directions are for a medium-rare steak. If you prefer your steak cooked more or less, follow these guidelines and check it with a meat thermometer- Rare: 125°F, Medium-Rare: 135°F, Medium: 145°F, Medium Well: 155°F, Well: 160°F
    • Storing: Steak will last for up to 4 days in the fridge when placed in a shallow, airtight container. To reheat, place in your air fryer at 350°F for 4-5 minutes. Let rest for 5 minutes before you dig in!
