Ive found that when cooking air fryer recipes in the Duo Crisp, youll need to add a few minutes to the cook time. For example, the average air fryer recipe calls for cooking fries at 380°F for about 15 minutes, but I find that in the Instant Pot they need about 20 minutes. However, they still produce a crispier and faster result than the oven, which takes about 40 minutes!

If you are deciding between the Instant Air Fryer lid and Mealthy crisp Lid, I think buying the Instant brand lid is the far superior option. It is a much better value to go with the Instant product.

The MOST common question on my Instant Pot Duo Crisp review was if the lid could be used on any model of Instant Pot. The Duo Crisp cant, but this new Air Fryer Lid works on most 6-quart models.
I love my Duo Crisp, and Im happy to say that the new Air Fryer Lid works just as well!
The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid is comparable to the Instant Pot Duo Crisp lid in function, but sized down to fit on the 6-quart models.
The Air Fryer Lid is shaped a little differently than the Duo Crisp lid. The Duo Crisps controls are integrated into the face of the Duo Crisp, but the Air Fryer Lid has the controls on the top of the lid so it can work with several Instant Pot models.
Whats With The Strange Plug
The Air Fryer Lid has a really different sort of plug, with the plug prongs under a thick plastic plug cover. The plug has a cover that takes up the space of both outlets so that you cannot have anything else plugged in at the same time.
This is a safety feature by Instant Pot to ensure you dont try to use your pressure cooker while air frying.
It is a little awkward to get used to at first, but it does ensure that your Instant Pot will be off while youre using the Air Fryer Lid.

The air fryer lid preheated about two minutes faster than the Vortex. Both produced crispy results, but we liked the Vortex slightly more because of the extra browning. The fact that this Instant Pot attachment produced similar results as the Instant Vortex makes a case for not adding a whole new appliance to your collection.
What You Should Know Before Buying The Air Fryer Lid By Instant Pot
The Air Fryer Lid is a standalone Instant Pot accessory. It does NOT come with a pressure cooker and cannot be used alone.
Dont fill too full. You cannot use the Air Fryer Lid if your cooking pot is above the Max Fill line.
The cord is short, so youll have to have an outlet that is easily accessible. Its about the same length as the cord on the Instant Pot itself, but because it sits higher above the counter, it feels a little shorter. DO NOT use the Air Fryer Lid with an extension cord.
The plug is a little weird. Youll have to unplug everything else if youre using an outlet that you share with a mixer or toaster oven. Its also pretty short.

You Can’t Fit Much In The Air Fryer Basket
To be fair, this is my complaint with most air fryers, but there are some air fryers and toaster ovens with air fry capabilities that can fit larger amounts. We are a family of 2, so it works ok for us for most applications, but if you are a family of 4 or more, or enjoy making large portions for leftovers, you’ll have to cook your food in multiple batches which is a pain really defeats the purpose of air frying!

Making Fries With The Air Fryer Lid
For instance, to make fries, I start by putting the frying basket in the pressure cooker. Next, I like to preheat the pot and the basket , so I place the lid over the pot. When it makes a small ding sound, you know its locked in place.
Now, its time to get to set stuff up. Press the Air Fry button on the lid and adjust the time and temperature. Youll notice the temperature and time are already pre-set, but you can change the values by pressing the plus and minus buttons for Temp and Time.
For me, it takes about 13 to 15 minutes at 360F to make a batch of golden, crispy fries that melt in your mouth. When youre happy with the settings, press the Start button. Youll notice the display only says On – this is the preheating section of the cycle and when its done, it will display the temperature and make a noise.
Once the preheating is over, I use the handle on the lid to pick it up and place it on the provided heat-resistant pan. Next, I add the fries inside the basket and place the lid back on – the air frying process will resume.
One of the reasons I love this lid so much is that it notifies me when I should turn the fries . It does this by pausing the air frying process and displaying a turn food message . So, to do this, I will take the lid off and arm myself with a pair of heat-resistant mittens to pull out the frying basket and shake the fries. This lets the air move better through the food and ensures the fries will be golden on both sides.
