If youre used to Instant Pots multi-cookers, cooking with this lid will feel pretty comfortable. It doesnt lock onto the base like the pressure-cooking lid, but you will still get the same musical alert when it is placed on the base correctly. When cooking you wont be able to see into the base of the pot, but you are able to take the lid off to check on the progress of your food mid-way through. The lid is a little heavy , so you dont have to worry about it moving around during cooking. Its important to note that you cannot turn on the air fryer lid and Instant Pot base at the same time . On our tests, we found that the Instant Pot 6 Quart Vortex 4 in 1 Air Fryer Oven performed best on brussels sprouts and frozen French fries. In fact, it was the only air fryer to score full marks for frozen French fries, needing just 15 minutes to cook. It also scored highly for breaded chicken as well, needing just 13 minutes to cook this after preheating. However, it somewhat struggled for air frying chicken wings.
There are no preset cooking programs on this air fryer instead you need to set the temperature and time manually as well as the overall setting, such as air fry, roast or reheat. This can be daunting if youre new to air frying. Theres also little guidance in terms of cooking charts supplied you will need to go online to find these.
After you set your desired cooking temperature and time, it automatically goes into a preheat mode. There is no option to deactivate the preheat. This actually comes in use, because if your food isnt ready once time is up and you want to air fry it for a few more minutes, it will automatically revert to preheating again.

Even after weeks of use, we are still amazed by the abilities and capabilities of the unit. Set your cooking preference , time and temperature, then press go to start. It takes some time to pre-heat and when it is ready, it will prompt you to add food. We usually just add food right from start so we can effectively ignore this and it will start cooking automatically after preheating.
Just before the food is ready, it will again alert you to turn your food. Pull out the drawer and do what you must or you can also ignore this if there is plenty of room around your food and it will resume after a few seconds to finish cooking. Finally, when cooking is done, it again alerts you will a series of beeps.

Of all the air fryers we tested, this is one of the most intuitive air fryers to program. The buttons are nicely sized, clearly marked, and quick to respond. To program the temperature and time, you turn and press a dial. The basket has a rack on which the food rests and is easy to pull out and reposition in the air fryer.
During cooking, no spot on the exterior of this air fryer gets hot enough to cause a burn. The highest temperature that we recorded was 126.6°F on the lower-front side of the machine. Both the handle and the controls dont get much warmer than room temperature. We measured a noise level of 66.5dB during heating, which is the loudest of the air fryers we had on test. Its worth mentioning that this is not so noisy that you wont be able to have a conversation over the top of it while its running.
Both the basket and the rack are nonstick and have relatively few crevices, making each easy to wash by hand. This is a good thing as they are not dishwasher safe.

Given its relatively generous capacity we thought the Instant vortex 4-in-1 air fryer was efficient real estate perfect for smaller kitchens, and appreciated the little details like the back spacer to ensure it didnt overheat. Overall we werent sure the chips were the best weve ever had but they were satisfyingly crisp, pretty tasty and took twenty minutes to cook so we cant find it in us to complain too much.
Its handy and does what it says it will. Its also quiet and easy to clean, and performs a number of other functions which helps it earn its keep in your cupboards. Slight niggles like the plastic smell are outweighed by the easy to use touch pad and smart design.
