How To Use Parchment Paper In The Air Fryer

  • Start by measuring your parchment paper. The purpose of air frying is to surround food with hot, dry air, Laurence says. Thats why its important not to cover the whole bottom of the air fryer with parchment paper. If you do, youre not getting that direct contact of the air from below, blocking grease from draining away from the food, she says. Only use as much parchment paper as the food requires, Laurence says. For example, if youre cooking fish, only put a piece of parchment paper thats roughly the same size as the filet underneath it to keep the fish surrounded by hot air.
  • Preheat the oven without the parchment inside. According to Laurence, only add parchment paper when youre ready to put the food in. It needs to be weighed down by food or there will be a risk of fire.
  • Avoid reusing parchment paper. Your parchment paper may come out of the air fryer too dirty and wrecked to use again, Laurence says. However, if youre air frying something with less moisture or grease, the paper may come out dry enough to reuse again.
  • Some Benefits Of Using Parchment Paper In The Air Fryer

Using parchment paper saves you time in the kitchen because it cleans the air fryer much easier and faster.

With its use, you will only have to withdraw in parchment paper, and everything is ready. Even the basket of the air fryer!.

Also, it prevents food from sticking to the tray, and that way, delicate foods, such as fish, dont break when you try to get them out of the tray.

What Does Perforated Parchment Paper Mean

Parchment paper is a cellulose-based paper that has been treated or coated to make it a non-stick material.

You may get this question that why perforated parchment paper over parchment paper as they are also kinda parchment paper but that are perforated in order, the holes allow the air to circulate through the paper and helps the food to be more crispy and tasty without sticking to the air fryer basket or steamer basket

How To Place Parchment Paper In An Air Fryer

Which Is The Best Air Fryer Perforated Parchment Paper

Depending on what youre cooking, the way youll want to place your parchment paper will differ slightly. In most cases, you want to put parchment paper in the air fryers basket and place the ingredients on top of the paper, ensuring that the parchment paper is held down by the weight of the ingredients.

This will allow the paper to collect whatever juices the food may release, crumbs that may fall off, and still provide proper airflow.

If youre air frying foods that have been marinated or are saucy, you want to fold the parchment paper to create a little pizza-crust-like edge on the sides to contain the juices inside the basket, preventing them from splattering all over the air fryer.

Always make sure that every piece of paper placed inside the air fryer is steadily held down. The air circulating the air fryer will have no problem throwing small pieces of paper into the fan or heating element, which could start a fire or damage the device. We want to avoid that at all costs.

Because perforated parchment paper has small holes, some juice can still drip through but the majority of the liquids and crumbs will be collected on the paper rather than the base of the basket or tray. This is truly a time-saver.

Air Fryer Parchment Sheet Helps Food From Sticking And More

These parchment sheets are a game changer for your air fryer! If you have a wire air fryer basket or wire air fryer oven racks, you probably have had sticking issues. No matter how much you spray with oil, some foods will still stick to wire surfaces. But if you use these papers under your food, youll have much less food sticking and tearing. Even if you have a non-stick or ceramic base, delicate foods like fish can often tear. Its always good to have a batch of these air fryer sheets in your kitchen. They come in handy for easy cleaning too!

10 Reasons to Use Perforated Parchment Sheets when Air Frying

  • Keeps food from sticking. Wire racks or baskets often have more sticking issues than non-stick. So these papers are a game changer for sticky wire bases.
  • Keeps food from tearing. Delicate foods like fish releases much better when air fried on these liners. Theres nothing more frustrating than to try to release salmon or other delicate fish, only to have it break into pieces.
  • Clean-up is so much easier! This is game changer when clean up is quicker and more simple!
  • Minimizes scrubbing wear and tear on your basket or racks. It keeps you from scrubbing the baskets/racks less, which helps minimize wear and tear. Non-stick baskets lose their lining over time and even more so with scrubbing. So these parchment liners help minize.
  • Helps prolong the life of your basket/racks. Think of these liners as protectors of your baskets from all the grease and heat exposure.

Can You Use Aluminum Foil In An Air Fryer

Aluminum foil is safe to use in an air fryer, but it has limitations.

Your air fryer has a series of holes in the bottom of the basket. This allows air to flow in and around your food, cooking it evenly and getting the ideal crispiness you desire. If you cover all these holes with aluminum foil, youll block the air flow and your food will not crisp or cook as intended in an air fryer.

Aluminum foil can make clean up very easy, but its best to use when you only have a small amount of food and you dont need to cover the entire bottom of your air fryer so that some air holes are still properly open.

Also, like parchment paper, youll always want to be sure your tin foil is weighed down so that it doesnt blow around inside your air fryer.

Why Do I Use Parchment Paper In My Air Fryer

200 Pcs 8" Round Air Fryer Liners, Unbleached Perforated Parchment ...

For me, there are a couple of things that justify the use of parchment paper when cooking in an air fryer.

    • It makes it much easier to clean the air fryer. Instead of having to clean the entire air fryer I just remove the parchment paper and all the grease, crumbs, and residue that it has collected
    • Theres less burnt-on grease on the air fryer basket, which means I need to scrub the basket less frequently, increasing its lifespan. Scrubbing and scraping it may cause the surface to flake.
    • I used to soak my air fryer basket in water and soap a couple of times a week, with the parchment papers, I dont have to.

The ones I used to purchase from Amazon were greaseproof, I think they were called Air Fryer Liners, its basically the same thing as perforated parchment paper.

What Not To Put In Your Air Fryer

There are also a few items that you dont want to ever use in your air fryer.

  • Paper towels: Do NOT use paper towel in an air fryer. If it comes close to the heating element it can catch on fire easily. Also, the heat from the bottom of the air fryer itself is enough to burn the paper, creating a fire hazard with any use.
  • Wax paper: Do NOT confuse wax paper with parchment paper and use it in your air fryer. The wax coating will smoke and melt when exposed to any heat, creating a very smelly mess almost immediately as the air fryer warms up. It will ruin your food, possibly ruin your machine, and likely set off every smoke detector on your block.

Why Would You Need Parchment Paper

One of the major reasons for using parchment paper in an air fryer is to allow for easier clean up once you are done the cooking.

This is usually the case with greasy foods or something with heavy sauces like if you are making chicken wings. Parchment paper is also a good idea if you are making recipes with bread crumbs. It keeps them on the food as you are air frying it.

When you are cooking greasy food, the fat can splatter onto the heating element at the top and give off that burning smell. When you place parchment paper on the top as well as the bottom of the food, it stops this from happening.

How To Make Perforated Parchment Sheets

The first time I made these perforated parchment sheets I cut the sheets into quarters before rolling the perforator over them. Since that time I have found that I can run the rotary cutter with the perforating blade over the sheets before cutting them to the size that I like.

Using these Cookie Sheets has been really neat because they are pre cut to 13×9 and are creased into quarters in the box which makes cutting them with my scissors really easy.

I store the precut sheets in a gallon ziptop bag so that they are ready to go when I am.

Warning About Using Parchment Paper In Your Air Fryer

Are you using parchment paper in your air fryer? If so, you may want to rethink that decision. While parchment paper is a great way to keep food from sticking to your baking sheet, it can be a hazard in the air fryer.

    Before You Get Started

When it comes to using parchment paper in the air fryer, its important to keep in mind both the temperature and type of paper youre using.

Parchment paper in the oven versus air fryer. Temperature-wise, parchment paper in the air fryer acts similarly to how it does in an oven. The difference between an oven and an air fryer is that air fryers incorporate a fan that is right next to the element that blows hot air onto the food, Laurence says. Despite their difference, parchment paper can be used similarly in the air fryer as it is used in the oven.

Parchment is temperature-sensitive. Parchment papers heating limit is 450 degrees, according to Laurence. If you have an air fryer that heats up to 500 degrees, Laurence says to forgo using the liner that temperature is too high for parchment paper to withstand and it becomes a fire hazard.

Laurences go-to is natural parchment paper with no coatings on it. Ive had no problem and no limitation with respect to temperature as long as its under 450, she says. But most air fryers only go to 400 or 390 degrees.

Parchment paper is different from wax paper. Make sure youre choosing the right paper to place in your air fryer. Wax paper is coated, and thats not to go in your oven or your air fryer because the wax would melt, she says.
