Philips Airfryer Hd9216 Common Issues

As with similar air fryers on the market, the HD9216 has a basket release button that is easy to accidentally activate. Be careful not to drop the basket on yourself or on the floor. There were several complaints about this inconvenience.

The other commonly mentioned issues are minor. The fryer is noisy while running, and it takes up a lot of space. If counter space or cupboard storage is limited in your kitchen, you could have a problem with the large footprint of this Philips fryer.

As mentioned earlier, you will need to be thorough while cleaning the unit, because nooks and crannies accumulate grease and food debris over time. Due to the heat output of the fryer, any leftover bacteria are unlikely to cause sickness. Its not really an issue of food safety, more that you may notice a greasy odor after a while.

What We Like About The Philips Viva Hd9220/20 Airfryer

The compact Philips Viva HD9220/20 Airfryer has almost everything you could want in an air fryer. It’s compact, stylish, versatile, and easy to use. Plus, it comes with adjustable heat and timer settings with which to play around. Chips and fries are certainly not the only foods you can cook in this baby.

Undoubtedly, its best feature is the results â both we and customers felt the Viva airfryer outshined the competition. Yummy, crispy, better-than-oven-baked chips, fries, and “fried” foods are yours without the extra oil. Looking for a quality-built air fryer for solo suppers, dates, or small family meals? Then, we think it’s the perfect air fryer to get you started!

What We Don’t Like About The Philips Viva Hd9220/20 Airfryer

Air fryers are one of those kitchen appliances that really do take the guesswork out of cooking. Don’t know how to boil an egg â or, in this case, fry chips â to save your life? Then, an air fryer could be for you. However, If you’re looking for a fully-programmed air fryer, the Philips Viva air fryer may not be your top choice. Though it does come with a helpful recipe booklet, there are no presets on which to rely. You need to choose your temperature and time settings for the best results.

Speaking of which, this model is the older version of the Philips Essential and the newer one does have presets. You’ll also find it tricky to see what’s going on inside as the Viva HD9220/20 has no window. If you’re a big family of 3+, it won’t manage more than snacks or one component of your meal, either. Being the smallest in the Viva range, you won’t fit much in it. Certainly, not as much as you can in a Philips Airfryer Essential XL or Premium XXL. Though, a small whole chicken, gammon, beef roast, or lamb leg may squeeze in.

What Is Rapid Air Technology

Rapid Air technology is the name Philips gave to the RUSH technology that was developed by APDS Development during the development of the Airfryer. RUSH stands for Radiant and UpStream Heating, which tells us something about the way heat is transferred. Distinctive about the technology is that heat is transferred with very high intensity, that heat is distributed over the food from all sides and that the heat can penetrate through a thick pile of food particles.

Rapid Air technology

Figure 1 shows a schematic overview of the RUSH principle. Radiant heat is coming from a heating element just above the food and convection heat is coming from a strong upwards moving air stream that flows through the open bottom of the food chamber. So heat comes from both sides and is totally focused on the food. All air is forced to pass over the food and heater surface by every circulation cycle, there is no idle air circulating around . The total air volume to be heated is limited and circulates inside the space where the heat is required. A special star shaped air guide profile on the bottom of the preparation room creates a optimized airflow pattern to distribute the air, loaded with heat energy, evenly over the bottom side of the food.

When compared to a convection oven

  • Preparation times are 25-50% lower
  • Preheating time is 50-75% lower
  • Energy consumption over 24 h can be more then 50% lower

Buying Guide For Best Philips Air Fryers

Imagine enjoying the satisfying crunch of a plate full of french fries without worrying about fat. If you own an air fryer, this isnt just a pipe dream. You can easily have your fries and eat them, too! Philips is a leader in kitchen technology, including air fryers, which only require a tablespoon of oil or less to make scrumptious fried foods. You might already own a Philips appliance or two: the company makes an array of fine multi-cookers, pasta makers, blenders, grills, and more. And check out our favorites when youre ready to buy.

Philips Air Fryer Terminology

Philips offers several lines of air fryers, and there are multiple models within those lines. Even if you know how many people youre cooking for and how much you want to spend, there are some choices to make between the options. It helps to understand the various terms Philips uses to describe its technologies. The following is a short glossary of terms youll see in product descriptions. As you shop for a Philips air fryer, youll find that various options use different combinations of these technologies.

Rapid Air technology: This term refers to the air circulation method used by all air fryers, not just those made by Philips. A radiant heating element at the top of the air fryer chamber releases heat into the chamber, and a fan blows this intense heat throughout the chamber. The strength of the heat quickly forms a light crust on food, creating a crispy crunch on the outside while preserving moisture and nutrients on the inside.

TurboStar technology: This term is exclusively used by Philips to describe the high quality of its Rapid Air technology. Air swirls inside the air fryer chamber at super-high speed in order to expose all food in the chamber to roughly the same amount of heat. As a result, food cooks evenly while maintaining a crisp exterior and soft interior.

Starfish technology: This simply refers to the starfish-like raised pattern on the bottom of a Philips air fryer. The pattern enhances airflow by allowing heat to circulate beneath the basket of food.

Is It Worth The Money

Are you looking for a starter air fryer that also affords you the option to play around with time and temperature? If so, the Philips Viva HD9220/20 Airfryer is a solid choice. Though pricier than a lot of other brands, it’s one of the best quality machines out there â not only as far as build quality but also in terms of results. The proof is in the pudding â and it cooked some of the crispiest fries we’ve seen done in an air fryer!

Other pros include how quietly and odourless it runs and compact it is. To answer the question, “is it worth the money?” We think so. There are some downsides to this machine, though. They include getting an uneven cook if you don’t shake or mix your food during the cooking process. And pricey accessories, a hard-to-clean mesh basket grill, and being quite pricey even though this is an older model.

Add to this that the new Philips Essential and Essential XL Airfryer’s offer much more at a not-much-higher price point. If you’re looking for an air fryer to experiment with proving and baking bread, dehydrating, or yoghurt-making, it’s not suitable, either. You need a machine that can run at 40° C or less for these purposes. Otherwise, it’s a solid buy, especially if you can grab one on sale or clearance.
