The BEST Air Fryer Bacon (No Splatter, So Easy!)

The most important step in this recipe happens before you even open your pack of bacon. Air frying bacon is very easy, but it can also be dangerous if you skip a simple yet important step. As the bacon air fries, it will render lots of fat. Without a buffer in the bottom of the basket, this fat will smoke as soon as it hits the hot base of the air fryer. That would make lots of smoke.

The solution? Add about 1 cup of water to the bottom of your air fryer basket. This water will catch the grease and will prevent smoke.

This recipe for air-fryer bacon is a no-brainer!

Preheat your air fryer to 375°F. Place the bacon in a single layer in the air-fryer basket. You may need to tear or bend the pieces of bacon to get them to fit, depending on the size of the basket. Then, cook for 2 to 3 minutes.

Take a peek at the bacon and flip with tongs if needed. After checking, pop the basket back into your air fryer and cook the bacon until it hits your desired doneness, about 4 to 5 minutes longer for crispy strips.

When done, carefully remove the bacon with kitchen tongs. Depending on the size of your air fryer and how much bacon youre cooking, you may need to air-fry the bacon in several batches. Just be sure to wipe down the air fryer between batches and clean the air fryer when youre done.

Air Fryer Bacon Cook Time And Temperature

How long do you air fry bacon? Ten minutes on 400 degrees will do the trick. I did take a peek half way through to see if anything needed to be re-spaced.

Tongs are extremely helpful for this. True to form, bacon shrinks down quite a bit when cooking.

Check it after ten minutes, and see if you want it any more done. I like mine pretty well-done, so I went an extra minute and a half. It was perfect yall!

I use the tongs to place the cooked pieces on paper towels, where I blot and drain off any remaining grease.

Crunchy outside, chewy inside, dark around the edgesjust perfect!!!

Heads up: I did empty out the grease prior to cooking my second batch. Just for the record, I may never make bacon any other way again.

And if you are a big bacon eater, I think cooking bacon alone would justify an air fryer purchase. Just sayin!

Why Cook Bacon In Your Air Fryer

If youre like me, there are some foods that I dont immediately think of cooking in my air fryer. Bacon was one of them until I realised how convenient it is. Heres why I think youll be an air fried bacon convert too :

    • Much less mess than cooking in a frying pan. No grease splattering everywhere!
    • Hands-off cooking. No more overcooking your bacon by accident!
    • Save oven or stovetop space if you have other things to cook as well.
    • No added oil. Spray the basket lightly if you like to prevent sticking, then cook as is.

I like to cook a couple of batches of bacon in my air fryer at one time. I keep the cooked rashers in my fridge to use in various dishes throughout the week!

Can You Cook Bacon In An Air Fryer

So technically, you can cook bacon in an air fryer. But I’d argue it’s not the best way to cook bacon for a few reasons.

First of all, if you need more than a few pieces at a time, you’re going to have to cook the bacon in several batches. The air fryer basket was not made to accommodate a pound or even anywhere near a half-pound of bacon all at once.

But what’s more problematic about cooking bacon in the air fryer is the fact that it’s highly likely you’ll end up with a burnt, smoky mess. Here’s why: Bacon doesn’t require any excess oil or butter to cook because it’s so full of fat. So when hot air is circulated around the bacon, your air fryer will fill up with rendered bacon fat, which will then burn and maybe even release smoke from your machine.

Some folks suggest adding water to the air fryer drawer to help reduce any smoking, but adding water to hot oil is a safety hazard, as it can expand and cause hot oil to spray in all directions.

The other “solution” is to remove the hot bacon grease after each batch. But this certainly isn’t a convenient solution, and isn’t the air fryer supposed to be about convenience? Plus, it’s a great way to get a bad burn.

All this being said, we understand the appeal of cooking bacon in an air fryer, since you would expect to have far less of a mess than you would with the traditional stovetop method. But if you’re looking to curtail a greasy mess, we suggest going with the oven method, especially for large batches.

How to cook Crispy Bacon in an Air Fryer
    • Empty out any bacon fat to avoid smoke coming out of the air fryer before cooking your next batch.
    • Avoid overlapping the bacon so it cooks evenly. A little overlap is fine as the bacon strips will shrink as they cook in the air fryer. Cook in batches of bacon if necessary.
    • You can cut the strips in half so they lay flat in the basket or if you want them to cook up extra fast.
    • Bacon will continue to crisp up as it cooks so make sure not to overcook the bacon.
    • Preheat the air fryer if your air fryer model requires you to do so.
    • I cant stress enough how its important to lay bacon strips in a single layer. If you overlap, it may become soggy.
    • You can season bacon! Try adding some cracked pepper, brown sugar, or maple syrup to the bacon strips before air frying.
    • There is no need to add any oil to the recipe. The air fryer will make sure the bacon crisps up without additional oil.

Yes You Can Air Fry It

Most side dishes that can be cooked in a conventional oven can go in an air fryer. Here are some suggestions for cooking oven recipes in the air fryer.

    • Lay the food in the air fryer basket in a single layer so that it cooks evenly. The surface area of an air fryer basket is smaller than most baking dishes and sheet pans, so you may need to cook your food in batches. Still, I find that it takes a lot less time overall.
    • Line the bottom of the air fryer basket with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
    • Oven-safe containers like ramekins, baking dishes, and cupcake pans can safely go in the air fryer, too.
    • Air fryers are small but mightythe food will be very hot coming out of itso be sure to handle them with tongs and oven mitts.

    • The BEST bacon Ive ever eaten I actually got from ButcherBox . It is uncured with an amazing flavor.

If you can get uncured meat of any kind in the store Id recommend it because theres TONS of flavor.

  • Place the seasoned chicken piece on the end of a piece of bacon and roll it up. Secure the bacon strip closed with a toothpick. Do this with all the chicken pieces.
