Can You Use Aluminum Foil In An Air Fryer

How to make Perforated Parchment Paper for Air fryers

Aluminum foil is safe to use in an air fryer, but it has limitations.

Your air fryer has a series of holes in the bottom of the basket. This allows air to flow in and around your food, cooking it evenly and getting the ideal crispiness you desire. If you cover all these holes with aluminum foil, youll block the air flow and your food will not crisp or cook as intended in an air fryer.

Aluminum foil can make clean up very easy, but its best to use when you only have a small amount of food and you dont need to cover the entire bottom of your air fryer so that some air holes are still properly open.

Also, like parchment paper, youll always want to be sure your tin foil is weighed down so that it doesnt blow around inside your air fryer.

How To Use Parchment Paper In The Air Fryer

  • Start by measuring your parchment paper. The purpose of air frying is to surround food with hot, dry air, Laurence says. That’s why it’s important not to cover the whole bottom of the air fryer with parchment paper. If you do, “you’re not getting that direct contact of the air from below,” blocking grease from draining away from the food, she says. “Only use as much parchment paper as the food requires,” Laurence says. For example, if you’re cooking fish, only put a piece of parchment paper that’s roughly the same size as the filet underneath it to keep the fish surrounded by hot air.
  • Preheat the oven without the parchment inside. According to Laurence, only add parchment paper when you’re ready to put the food in. It needs to be weighed down by food or there will be a risk of fire.
  • Avoid reusing parchment paper. Your parchment paper may come out of the air fryer too dirty and “wrecked” to use again, Laurence says. However, if you’re air frying something with less moisture or grease, the paper may come out dry enough to reuse again.
  • Best Air Fryer Parchment Sheets Or Liners

Theres many different brands out there, but they all basically work the same. Just make sure to buy the size or shape that fits your air fryer the best. Some air fryers have round or square baskets. Air fryer ovens are mostly square. If you bought sheets are are too big, you can always trim the to fit.

Most come in white or natural colored parchment. Choose the size and shape that best fits your air fryer basket or tray. It doesnt need to be perfect, but if it is close it will be most useful.Rounds for circular air fryer baskets.

An air fryer perforated parchment paper or liner is one of the essential air fryer accessories you might need if you are a frequent user of your air fryer. Its one of those accessories you can make at home as a DIY project. All you need is a few craft supplies and I am excited to show you exactly how to make it.

What Are Perforated Parchment Sheets Or Liners

Theyre pre-cut parchment paper that have holes . The holes allow air to circulate through the paper and helps food crisp better or steam without sticking to the air fryer basket or steamer basket. These parchment sheets are great for what ever cooking surface you have for your air fryer or bamboo steamer . The perforated parchment sheets come in different sizes, shapes and styles. Some are white, while other brown ones are unbleached. In the case of air frying, the holes in the parchment sheets allows air to circulate under the food, which helps food cook more evenly throughout the whole cavity of the air fryer.

Is Parchment Paper Safe In The Air Fryer

Absolutely! If its safe for the oven, its safe for the fryer. Most parchment papers can withstand a heat of over 400 degrees.

Just follow these two rules when it comes to using parchment paper in the air fryer.

  • Never preheat your air fryer with parchment paper in it. Food must always be on top of it or it will burn the parchment paper.
  • Only use parchment paper when you have something that will weigh it down enough. For instance, parchment paper will not work when cooking just one frozen mozzarella stick in the air fryer. The outsides will still fly upward and hit the fan.

Laurence says she always chooses parchment paper over aluminum foil in the air fryer. Parchment paper is more versatile because it is non-reactive, whereas aluminum foil is reactive. “Whatever food you’re putting on that aluminum foil is going to react with aluminum,” Laurence says. Foods that are more acidic, like tomatoes, may absorb heat and dissolve aluminum, causing it to leach into your food.

The one instance in which Laurence believes foil is better is if you need to create sturdy handles to lift something out of the air fryer.

    Check The Max Cooking Temperature

Before using parchment paper in your air fryer be sure to compare the maximum temperature it can sustain against the temperature you cook food in your air fryer at. Our preferred paper can be heated safely through to 425F. Given the Cosori air fryer we cook with maxes out at 400F we feel pretty safe that nothing will ignite. Still, please see step four of this list.

Dont Use The Paper During Pre

Speaking of which, only add the paper to the air fryer, once it can be weighted down by a suitably hefty piece of food. If you use parchment paper during the pre-heat, or indeed not sufficiently weighted down its liable to fly up into the heating element and burn. This takes us to the most important point.

What Is Parchment Paper Why Use It In The Air Fryer

Parchment paper is a form of relatively oven safe paper thats used most commonly in baking. The paper is treated to make it non stick, plus it can also withstand certain oven temperatures too. Parchment paper can be a great application in the air fryer when cooking up sticky and greasy items. Food products that might otherwise stick to your air fryer basket e.g. chicken wings in a sticky sauce wont stick at all to the parchment paper.

Not only does this make things simpler, and less messy it means theres also less cleanup when youre finished cooking too!

Can You Put Parchment Paper In An Air Fryer

100 Pcs Steaming Paper Air Fryer Liners Perforated Parchment Paper ...

Yes you can put parchment paper in an air fryer. Its helps with easy clean up and extends the life of the air fryer basket.

However you shouldnt put it in there without any food on it to weigh it down. Its light weight so the air circulation in the air fryer will get flying around and it can get stuck in the element and ruin your air fryer.

This means it should be used when you are ready to start cooking and not during the preheating stage

Reasons Why You Should Use Perforated Parchment Paper

Parchment paper has many uses. Its most often used in baking but is equally useful in an air fryer. Here why:

  • It keeps food from sticking: Placing food directly onto wire racks or baskets can cause food to stick during the cooking process. The paper keeps your food from sticking.
  • Makes for easy cleanup: Once your food is cooked, all you need to do is remove the food and place it on a plate. Remove the paper and throw it away. Washing out the basket with hot soapy water will take far less time if you dont have to scrub!
  • Keeps food from tearing: This is especially true when dealing with delicate food like fish. Placing raw pieces of fish directly in the basket or on a rack can cause it to tear even if youve rubbed a little oil on it first. It also helps baked goods from sticking such as biscuit dough. Using parchment paper eliminates the tearing problem.
  • Very safe to use: We always advise you to check your users manual first. That being said, this baking paper is very safe to use up to 450°F/230°C.
  • Easy to find: Baking paper can be found in supermarkets, dollar stores, and even some hardware stores that sell kitchen products.
  • Very affordable: Depending on where you buy it, this paper can be even cheaper to buy than aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
  • FDA approved: Many are FDA approved. To be sure, check the box.

Do You Need Air Fryer Liners

You do not need to use liners in order to use an air fryer, but there are many reasons you may choose to anyway.

Here are some key reasons to use air fryer liners anyway:

    • They reduce the likelihood that your food will stick. If you use nothing but the machine or even wire racks in it there is a chance that your food will stick in places, creating more mess to clean up and potentially damaging or tearing delicate food like fish. Air fryer liners solve this problem completely.
    • Liners makes cleaning your machine and accessories quick and easy. Using liners will not only save you time and energy, but also reduces the wear and tear on your machine. Your air fryer will have fewer scratches from stuck food or scrubbing, extending its lifespan and efficiency over time.
    • They help crisp your food with a lower risk of burning it in the process. Air fryer liners are safe to use in very high temperatures, helping your food get extremely hot and therefore crisping up nicely but protecting it from direct exposure to the heat source, limiting the risk for burning. You still need to watch your food and use the liners properly, but its much easier.

    Before You Get Started

When it comes to using parchment paper in the air fryer, it’s important to keep in mind both the temperature and type of paper you’re using.

Parchment paper in the oven versus air fryer. Temperature-wise, parchment paper in the air fryer acts similarly to how it does in an oven. The difference between an oven and an air fryer is that air fryers incorporate a fan that is right next to the element that blows hot air onto the food, Laurence says. Despite their difference, parchment paper can be used similarly in the air fryer as it is used in the oven.

Parchment is temperature-sensitive. Parchment paper’s heating limit is 450 degrees, according to Laurence. If you have an air fryer that heats up to 500 degrees, Laurence says to forgo using the liner that temperature is too high for parchment paper to withstand and it becomes a fire hazard.

Laurence’s go-to is natural parchment paper with no coatings on it. “I’ve had no problem and no limitation with respect to temperature as long as it’s under 450,” she says. “But most air fryers only go to 400 or 390 degrees.”

Parchment paper is different from wax paper. Make sure you’re choosing the right paper to place in your air fryer. “Wax paper is coated, and that’s not to go in your oven or your air fryer because the wax would melt,” she says.

Can I Make My Own Perforated Parchment Paper

Yes! Follow these simple steps to make your own!

  • Cut normal parchment paper slightly smaller than the basket size.
  • Use a small hole puncher to cut holes.
  • Place the parchment paper in the basket AFTER youre done preheating with food on top.
  • While its easy to make your own, its honestly worth your time to purchase pre-made air fryer paper online.

Amazon has great square orcircular air fryer parchment paper in packs of 100 and theyre really cheap. I personally use the square ones because my air fryer is square.
