Easy Pork Loin Roast And Glazed Pork Loin In An Air Fryer Recipe

A pork loin is cut from the area between the shoulder and back legs. It is the leanest and most tender part of the pig. The cuts from this area include rib chops, loin chops, the tenderloin, and the pork loin roast. Because these cuts are lean, they can dry out if overcooked.

For the air fryer recipes here we will be using a boneless pork loin roast. When choosing a loin roast for your air fryer, be mindful of the size of the interior of your fryer. Mine can handle about a 2 pound roast. It is not a bad idea to measure the basket or plate before heading out to the market. You can ask the butcher to cut a roast to fit your fryer. A 2 pound roast will easily feed 4 people.

A 2 pound boneless loin roast will generally cook at 360°F for 50 minutes. So, count on approximately 25 minutes per pound. Using a digital meat thermometer, you will want to check the internal temperature of the meat. You are looking for 145 to 150°F. Remember to rest the roast before slicing it so that the juices dont run out of the meat.

There are 2 recipes here. The first is for a well seasoned pork loin roast. The second one is for a quickly marinated and glazed roast. Good pairings for pork loin roast include:

  • Chunky apple sauce

Directions:

2. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, thyme, and sage. Coat the loin all over with the oil and seasoning mixture. Place the pork on a wire rack and set aside for the 25 minutes.

3. Preheat your air fryer to 360°F.

What Temperature Should Pork Tenderloin Be Cooked To

Pork tenderloin should be cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees and needs to rest for at least 3 minutes before cutting into slices or medallions.

It is okay for the cooked pork to be a little pink inside as long as its cooked to 145 degrees.

Pulling the tenderloin out at as close to 145 degrees as possible will produce nice and tender meat.

I use the Kizen Instant-Read Thermometer to get a quick read of my food while cooking in an air fryer. It only takes 3 to 5 seconds to get a full read, which means more heat can stay in my air fryer!

What Is Pork Belly

Pork belly is like a huge slab of bacon, but uncured, unsliced, and unsmoked. Both pork belly and bacon come from the flesh from the underside, or belly, of a pig. You could buy pork belly and make your own bacon. However, once you try this pork belly recipe, you may want to stick with pork belly over bacon.

Pork belly can be up to 12 pounds. I went with 1 1/2 pounds for this recipe. You can find it at most large grocery stores. If you buy it from a butcher, he or she can cut the amount you want. Or, you can freeze any extra pork belly for up to six months to use later.

Be Mindful Of The Temperature

Keep a digital meat thermometer on hand so you can check the pork while it is cooking. Pork should be cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165°F. Lean cuts can still have a slight pink interior. Overcooking pork chops and tenderloins can dry them out. However, ribs, bacon, and ham can benefit from being cooked well done up to 190°F.

Why Use Parchment In The Air Fryer

If using parchment paper in the air fryer, be sure to get the type that is perforated for air to circulate. You can make your own parchment liners by cutting a sheet of parchment paper and punching holes with a hole puncher. Parchment paper is optional but there are some benefits to using it:

  • Easier cleanup
  • Protects air fryer basket from wear and scratches
  • Protects delicate foods from breaking

Air Fryer Pork Chops Temperature And Cooking Time

When roasting pork chops in the air fryer, you can let the appliance preheat to 360F or 400F. Whichever heat level you choose, be sure that the pork chops cook to 145F. At 360F, the meat will cook for 14 to 16 minutes. And theyll need about 12 minutes if cooked at 400F.

Make sure to flip the pork chops halfway through the cooking time, so the doneness is even. Its also best to make use of a meat thermometer so that you can monitor the doneness temperature. And if your air fryer isnt big enough to take all the pork chops, cook them in batches. This move is essential, as overcrowding the basket wont allow the hot air to circulate successfully.

How To Make Dry Meat Moist Again

To return the moisture to a cut of over-cooked dry meat, it is recommended to simmer the meat in a sauce pain over low heat. Cut the meat into smaller pieces and add a few tablespoons of water, broth or other liquid. Simmering for a few minutes will allow the liquid to penetrate back into the meat. If you are hoping to tenderize the meat, try simmering in an acidic liquid, such as a vinegar or citrus juice such as lemon or lime which will also help add flavor and moisture.

Pork Loin Roast – Look for a cut that is about 2.5 pounds. Remember that the loin roast is different than a tenderloin. The loin roast is thick and shorter.

Olive Oil – Rubbing olive oil on the roast helps keep it tender and allows the seasonings to stick to the meat.

Italian Seasoning– This blend of Italian herbs is delicious on almost any kind of meat and it’s a great shortcut spice blend.

Kosher Salt – To season the meat well, i like a coarse ground kosher salt.

Garlic Powder – This adds a warm, savory note to the pork.

    Can Pork Tenderloin Be Pink

As mentioned above, the recommended internal temperature for a cut of pork loin is between 145° F 160° F. This internal temperature can be used to gauge any cut of pork. With this temperature, the pork loin might look a little pink in the middle, which is completely fine. Your pork loin should be moist and tender still at this temperature. Cooking it too long or to an internal temperature above 160 degrees will leave your pork dry and could actually make it less flavorful.

    Choosing A Pork Roast

Because of the quick roasting time, a tender cut of pork is going to be your best choice. Choose any small pork roast, a boneless pork loin roast, or pork shoulder blade roast are both great options.

Pork tenderloin is a great choice for an extra tender pork roast, but since the cooking times are a little different, I have a separate recipe for that here: air fryer pork tenderloin.

A tougher cut like pork shoulder can be air fried, but you may find that it is better slow cooked as it needs a longer cooking time to get really tender. These cuts are perfect for making slow cooker pulled pork.

When buying your pork roast, be sure to choose one that will fit in your air fryer. I usually find that a 2lb pork roast fits nicely in my air fryer, and is perfect for 4 .

How Long To Roast Pork In An Air Fryer

Exactly how long to cook a pork roast in an air fryer will depend on many factors, including the exact size and shape of the cut, and how powerful your air fryer is.

The rule of thumb that I use is to air fry a pork roast for around 25 minutes per lb. So a 2lb pork roast needs 50 minutes.

See the table below for estimated air frying times for different sized pork roasts.

Note: If you are cooking a pork tenderloin, expect to halve the cooking time due to the shape of this cut .

    Size of pork roast
    1 hr 15 minutes

Cooking times will vary according to the size and shape of the cut of pork you are cooking, and will also depend on how efficient your air fryer is.

The cook times in the recipe below are correct for my Philips Airfryer. If you have another powerful brand of air fryer like the Nuwave or a Ninja Foodi, then expect cook times to be similar.

However, the only way to be really sure that your pork roast is cooked correctly is to use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For roast pork, it should be 145°F / 63°C.

The best meat thermometer I have found to use with an air fryer is the Meater*. This is a truly wireless meat thermometer, it is like a skewer that you stick in the meat and then uses Bluetooth to tell your phone when the meat is cooked perfectly.

However, any instant-read meat thermometer should do the job, and is much more budget-friendly.

    Prepare The Pork Roast

Pat the pork roast dry. If your pork roast has a rind or layer of fat, then you will need to cut through this with a sharp knife to make deep scores through the rind.

Try to just cut through the pork skin or rind into the fat beneath, and not into the meat, as the pork roast can lose moisture to the during cooking if the meat is cut. This will prevent the crackle from getting really crispy, and can mean that your pork will dry out during roasting.
