When Does An Airfryer Require Oil
This depends on what you are cooking. There are a lot of air fryer recipes we have that require just one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
Such as our air fryer potato wedges. Many of these recipes that do require a tablespoon of oil really make the difference and taste so good.
Even better, if you the mathsthat is 1tbsp of oil between 2-4 people depending on the recipe. Making our airfryer recipes very low oil.
You can make air fryer oil free fries, but they just dont taste as good. They are dry fries and dont have the foodgasm that you want when you eat a portion of fries.
My favourite types of air fryerrecipes that require oil include:
- Air Fryer Fries They are better than takeout!
- Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken Just for the skin for that golden crispy glow.
- Air Fryer Veggie Fries Instead of classic French fries here is our healthy alternative. Tossed in some olive oil and then air fried.
- Air Fryer Roast Potatoes Tossed in a small amount of extra virgin olive oil and they are perfect. Much lower in calories than baked roast potatoes.
- Air Fryer Garlic Mushrooms Delicious mushrooms tossed in garlic and olive oil. Taste better than the ones on the pub menu and are perfect for an air fryer appetizer.
Best Oil With High Smoke Point
Oils with high smoke points that wonât burn at high temperatures are those that release no smoke or cause no burning at high degrees. As your food is sitting in the frying pan in a closed appliance, you wonât want any burning that can damage your fryer. Or else, bringing a bad odor or taste to your dishes.
In case you have no idea about the smoke point of your oil at home, weâve got you covered:
As for the regular olive oil, you can utilize it at a temperature of around 375°F/190°C or less. If youâre heating it higher than 400°F/205°C, it can start to burn and give off a rancid smell.
Also, take note that an overcrowded fryer will cause food close to the heating element, resulting in burning.
Air Fryer & oil My Advice In Summary
An air fryer uses on average of 85% less oil compared todeep frying your food. Remember this when you try to cut corners and cook allyour air fryer food with no oil or by using a pam oil spray or fry light.
Many recipes use JUST ¼ of a tablespoon per person, the same as 30 calories. This is incredibly low and needs celebrating. You havejust got a magic kitchen gadget that allows you to have fast food for the samecalories as a salad!
Try not to pay attention too much when air fryer recipes suggest you spray your food in the middle of cooking.
We have done this about twice in 9 years of cooking. And many home air fryer cooks will never need to.
But a spray as an alternative to tossing your food is excellent. Get a spray bottle like this one and load your favourite extra virgin olive oil into it.
It will be chemical free and will make air fryer cooking easier.
I wish you all the best with your air fryer cooking and whenI say it is lifechanging is not exaggeration as it truly is!

How To Know The Best Oil Sprayer For Air Fryer Quality Before Buying
Quality is one of the most important things when it comes to buying the best oil sprayer for air fryer. You might think that quality has nothing to do with price, but you are wrong! For example, when you buy a product under $100 versus a product that costs $300, there’s already a clear difference in quality.
If you believe in an expensive product and it breaks quickly, then your money could have been spent better elsewhere. Therefore, knowing what makes for good quality before purchasing anything is essential.
What are some ways that you can know if a product is high-quality? One way would be by looking at reviews online or asking friends who have used similar products in the past.
Another way would be by reading reviews on or other websites where people review products they’ve bought themselves. The best thing about this strategy is that many people will leave reviews even if they don’t like something.

What Oil Sprays Work For An Air Fryer
My absolute favorite sprays to use are Pompeian Cooking Sprays, they have a variety and they a wonderful high-quality that you can find at your local store.
I have been using these sprays for many years and have become extremely loyal to them. There are 4 in particular that I plan to focus on today.
These include Avocado, Coconut, Grapeseed, and Olive Oil Sprays.
Im listing each of the smoke points here below.
Avocado Oil Spray 450*F
Grapeseed Oil Spray 400*F
Extra Virgin Olive Oil Spray 350-375*F
Coconut Oil Spray 350*F
Our go-to oil for the air fryer is the Grapeseed Oil Spray from Pompeian.
Grapeseed oil is not only high heat but its also full of good health benefits too!
I will say that I do use their olive oil spray regularly as well without an issue however, that one has a lot of controversies too because it is not as high heat as the other options.
The majority of foods I make in the air fryer are not much higher than 375*F, which I believe is why the Olive Oil Spray tends to work just fine however, if you want to have a go-to that does have a high smoke point, choose one such as Grapeseed Oil Spray.
Personally, I do not use Avocado Cooking Oil Spray due to a food allergy however, this is also a good option for most people.

Not Cleaning It Properly After Use
Commitment to cleaning your air fryer after cooking with it will help prolong its life. We made this mistake with our first air fryers, and now we’re diligent about cleaning after each use, Chaperon and Shilalie reveal. If you do not clean it after each use, the oil and food can build up on the basket, and it is difficult to remove at that point.
Not only will this buildup affect how long it lasts and how well it works, but it can also cause fires. To make sure youre staying on top of the cleaning, these steps will show you exactly how to clean an air fryer:
- Unplug your air fryer
- Let it cool
- Pull out the baskets or pans
- Hand wash the removable pieces with gentle dish soap and a soft sponge or machine wash them if instructed
- Wipe down the interior and exterior of the appliance
- Turn the air fryer upside down
- Clean the heating element with damp cloth
- Dry all parts before putting them back

Be Careful Of Small Light Items In The Air Fryer
Each Air fryer unit comes with a powerful fan on top of the unit. This causes some lighter weighed items to get swept up in the fan which can be dangerous. I once tried to make fried egg roll wrappers and it almost became a disaster. I am hopeful to try it again once I figure out how to stop the flying around.
