How To Reheat Fries In An Air Fryer

THE BEST Air Fryer French Fry (Ranking 7 Methods)

If you have leftovers , store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. The fries will get dry and soggy in the fridge so I recommend eating them as soon as possible.

To reheat fries in the air fryer, Place them in a preheated basket and mist with additional oil.Air fry for 2-3 minutes or until crisp.

I actually use this same method to reheat any leftover fry! Before my air fryer, I never took home fries because they didnt reheat well. Fries reheated in the air fryer taste much better than microwaved fries. Life changing!

Tips For The Best Air Fryer Frozen Fries

  • Shake it up: To make sure your fires all get crispy and cooked evenly be sure to toss them gently half way through. Youll want to rotate the bottom to the top and move them around. You can shake them up more than once, if youd like. Some air fryers rotate, but youll still want to check and see how theyre doing half way through.
  • Dont Overfill: For frozen fries you dont want to fill your air fryer more than half to ¾ full. You do not have to put frozen fries in a single layer, but you for do not want to over crowd the basket. You may end up with undercooked fries.
  • Crispier: Depending on the thickness and type of fry you use, you might need to increase or decrease the cooking time. The longer you cook the fries, the crispier they will become.

How To Cut Potatoes For Fries

To create fries that crisped but didnt burn, I found that cutting the potatoes into matchsticks that were ¼-inch wide on each side and 3 to 4 inches in length worked best.

  • In order for your fries to cook evenly in the same amount of time, its important for them to be cut the same size.
  • I suggest using a mandoline for easy cutting and to ensure uniform fries.

What Types Of Air Fryers Are There

There are two basic styles of air fryers, which can be distinguished by their capacity, how much physical space they take up and how difficult they are to clean.

First, there is the smaller pod-shaped air fryer, which is the one most people are familiar with. A pod-shaped air fryer is about the size of a coffee maker and starts at around a 2-quart capacity and typically maxes out at around 7 quarts. It takes up less space on your countertop and is easier to clean than its convection oven counterpart. This is a good choice if youre making food for a smaller group.

Then theres the larger convection oven air fryer, which looks like a toaster oven with a door that usually opens down but has air-frying capabilities. A convection oven air fryer usually holds more than its pod-shaped counterpart, with many models boasting room for 10 quarts of food or more. However, they typically take up more space on your countertop and theyre more difficult to clean.

I use my every single day, but I rarely use it to air fry, Urvashi Pitre, author of Every Day Easy Air Fryer, said. It makes such a huge mess.

Should You Spray Frozen Fries Before Air Frying

Air Fryer Frozen French Fries

There are many pros and cons to spraying frozen fries before air frying. On one hand, frozen fries can be a great option for air frying as they are quickly cooked and have a crispy texture.

However, some people find that spraying them with an aerosol can of cooking spray can cause them to release an unpleasant odor. Additionally, the spray may also cause the fries to stick to the pan or touch each other, which could lead to sticking and poor frying results.

How To Make Air Fryer French Fries

When youre ready to cook, heres what you need to do:

First, chop your potatoes. Aim for them all to be a similar size, about 1/4-inch thick. That way, theyll all cook at the same rate. I dont recommend peeling your potatoes the skin helps them crisp up nicely as they cook. Once youve chopped the potatoes into fries, toss them all with olive oil and salt.

Next, cook the first batch. Spread the cut potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket with a little space between each one. Dont cram them in! The space allows the hot air to come in contact with all sides of the fries, which is what makes them golden brown and crisp. Air fry them at 380 for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway. Take them out when theyre crisp and brown around the edges.

Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cooking as many batches as necessary to give the fries adequate space in the basket.

Finally, toss them all in together! When you finish cooking the last batch, add all the fries back into the air fryer basket and cook them for 1 to 2 minutes to warm and crisp up the earlier batches. When all the air fryer French fries are crispy, take them out, and dig in!

  • tip 3 If potato sticks are longer than 4 inches, they can be difficult to redistribute in the air fryer basket when shaking. We recommend cutting extra-long potato sticks in half crosswise.
  • tip 4 Shaking the air fryer basket during the cooking process redistributes potatoes and helps ensure evenly browned French fries.
  • tip 5 If you like salty French fries, feel free to sprinkle extra salt on fries as soon as they come out of the air fryer.

How Does An Air Fryer Work

Air fryers don’t fry food in the traditional sense. Instead of oil, air fryers use hot air to crisp and brown foods. All air fryers contain a heating mechanism and fan that keeps the heated air circulating around the food. The process is similar to a convection oven.

Air fryers contain a perforated or mesh basket that allows air to move around the food for even cooking. The only downside to this design is you can only air fry breaded foods since battered foods would drip through the perforated air fryer basket.

Are Air Fryers Good For French Fries

Air fryers are a great way to cook french fries, as they produce them in an incredibly consistent and uniform manner. They also tend to be quicker than other methods, so you can get them to your table faster. Additionally, they dont require any oil which can be a big plus in some households. While theyre not the best option if you want fries that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, air fryers are a great choice for those who prefer their french fries this way.

What Potatoes Should I Use For Air Fryer French Fries

I like to use Yukon gold or yellow potatoeswhenever I make French fries. Its mostly a personal preference because I find the Yukon gold potatoes to be much creamier in the center with that crispy outside crust. They also have more of that potatoey flavour and you really cant go wrong when it comes to Yukon gold. I love using Yukon gold potatoes for Air Fryer Cajun Potato Wedges and for the Ultimate Creamy Mashed Potatoes.

I used to use russet potatoes since those seem to be typically used for French fries, but ultimately I just prefer using yellow potatoes.

A Buyers Guide To Air Fryers For French Fries

The Best Air Fryer French Fries I Have Made – Air Fryer Recipes

The air fryer has really become a popular kitchen appliance in recent years. Anything you like fried can be cooked in an air fryer. Chips? Done. Chicken wings? Done. Nuggets? Easy!

Fried food really is tasty and satisfying, but its not a great dietary decision. The air fryer largely negates the issues you find when cooking with a massive amount of oil without compromising on flavor. If you needed three cups of oil for a deep fryer recipe, you can use a mere tablespoon of oil in the air fryer. Thats a huge difference!

As with an oven – considering an air fryer is effectively a miniature fan forced oven – youll need to turn or shake your food while its cooking to ensure it cooks evenly.

When considering a new air fryer, you should look at:

How Do You Place Knives On A Magnetic Holder Tip

Both ways are correct, and how you hang your knives mainly depends on the height at which you install the magnetic strip. If the knife holder is placed lower than your shoulder height underneath the kitchen cabinets, the knives should be placed handle-side-up for efficiency. If the strip is above your shoulder height, grabbing a knife from below is safer and comes more naturally as well, so tip-side-up would be ideal in that case.

  • Slightly hard to clean

Cuisinart excels at making compact toaster ovens and air fryers in one. Its TOA-60 option can air fry up to 4 pounds of food, roast a 4-pound chicken, and toast 6 slices of breadand thats just the beginning. It has heating elements on both the top and bottom, with the convection fan located above the top elements, so you can bake and broil when you aren’t air-frying bacon.

When we tested this in the Lab, we found it to be the most compact and quietest of the toaster oven machines, and it performed the best as an air fryer. Both French fries and chicken tenders come out with great coloring and good flavor, even though this runs hot and some were overcooked. Once you’re over the learning curve, you’ll definitely be able to achieve fried goodness. When we roasted a chicken in the Cuisinart, it came out with the crispiest skin and tasted delicious.

Our testers did find some downsides to this machine, in addition to the machine running hot. It’s a bit difficult to handle grease both during the chicken roasting and the cleanup after. Even though the interior is nonstick, we needed to get into the corners to get all the splatter. We also wished it had a digital interface instead of manual controls. If having the ability to fine-tune the presets to your exact preferences is a must, take a look at the slightly more expensive Cuisinart TOA-65 Airfryer Toaster Oven.

How Many Layers Can You Cook At Once

1200W 4L Electric Air Fryer French Fries Machine Chicken Kitchen Cooker ...

One of my biggest frustrations with the air fryer is that, despite the baskets large overall volume capacity, in order for certain foods to crisp properly, they need to be cooked in a single layer.

Since the surface area of the basket is small, that means you end up making a lot of batches, taking away from the air fryers quicker cook time.

To determine whether or not you could fit more fries into the air fryer at once, I tested a few different methods. Here is what I found.

  • Single Layer of Potatoes. Cooking just one layer of potatoes at a time resulted in the best, crispiest fries. The downside was that I needed to make at least 4 batches, which extended the recipes total time.
  • Double Layer of Potatoes. My next test was to see if I could stack the potatoes in two layers. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the double-layer fries, while not *as* crisp as the ones I cooked in a single layer, were still delightfully crispy and very satisfying. This approach also cut my number of batches in half.
  • Three Layers or More. When I stacked the potatoes in three layers or more, they were noticeably less crisp and representative of fried fries. I would not recommend this method.

For us, the double layer was the perfect balance between crispiness and faster recipe time.

What Kind Of Potatoes To Use

I tried this recipe a couple of times with both Russets and Yukon golds. Both turned out good quality fries, but the Russets are clearly the superior potato for frying, which is my direct opposite preference for roasting potatoes.

The interior of Russet potatoes turns just the way you want ita bit fluffy and softwhereas the exterior stays crispy.

And theyre the right size for fries, too. If you can select them individually rather than buying a bag, Id recommend trying to find the longest ones you cansmaller, more round potatoes are going to make stubby fries that wont permit a whole lot of interaction with ketchup or whatever you condiment of choice happens to be.

You could probably also use red potatoes, but they dont tend to be long enough to turn them into the classic fry shape, so I skipped those for this recipe.

How To Make French Fries In Air Fryer

  • Scrub Potatoes: We just wash them and keep the skins on, but you can peel if you prefer.
  • Cut Potatoes: Clean the potatoes and cut into about ¼ inch strands, making sure all the strands are the same size for even cooking. Rinse the fries under cold water and pat dry.
  • Season: Add the fries into a bowl and drizzle with oil and toss, season and toss again. Evenly spread the fries into the air fryer basket.
  • Air Fry: Cook the fries until crispy and golden, tossing half way.
