Ill be honest, the Ninja Double Air Fryer can be intimidating at first with its multitude of buttons and the dual basket setup. Luckily, after a few runs, youll get the hang of it.
If you watched the video above, its just like a mini version of a full-sized oven. The only challenging part is setting the right amount of time and temperature for each recipe. You wont be able to memorize it, but the good thing is youll have a quick start guide courtesy of Shark Ninja.
On top of that, theres also an included recipe book to get you started right away.
In comparison to the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer Max XL, this model doesnt automatically pause when removing the air fryer basket. To ensure youre following the cooking time religiously, youll have to pause and start it manually whenever youre shaking or flipping your ingredients.

The cleanup is easy-peasy.
First of all, its dishwasher safe, so you can simply load the basket and crisper plate into the dishwasher.

The Ninja Dz201 Smart Finish
First off: As I mentioned repeatedly, the Ninja Foodi DZ201 is the one of the few air fryers that features two baskets or what they call dual-zone technology.
Essentially, you can cook either different types of food with distinct settings across the two zones. I mean, even traditional ovens cant do this. So, thats a major win for the Ninja Foodi Double Air Fryer.
Ninja Foodi 2 Basket Air Fryer Review: Ease Of Use And Cleaning
This is not a product for anyone who is not willing to read the owners manual multiple times. Although the multi functionality can be confusing at first, after a few uses, you get the hang of programming.
The buttons are responsive and well laid out on the panel. Each of the baskets has a rack on which food is placed. Its very easy to pull the baskets out of the machine and lift the racks from the baskets as well as reposition everything.
Its improbable that you would get burned by the Ninja as it operates, although on the lower right-hand side, we measured an external temperature of 137°F which is starting to get hot. If you have to use the controls or one of the handles to pull out the baskets, you can do so easily as they remain at room temperature. As it operates, the air fryer has a dBA reading of 65.5 which is one of the highest readings we got from an air fryer. This is roughly the noise level of conversation in your home.
Both the basket and its insert have a nonstick finish for easy hand cleaning, but they can also be safely washed via the dishwasher.
With this air fryer, you get an owners guide which clearly explains how to use it. However, as the machine is multifunctional and programming it is somewhat complicated, you will find yourself referring to it often, especially when its still new. A Quick Start Guide is also included which contains an overview of operation, lots of cooking charts, and some recipes.

Design: Attractive Enough For Counter Storage
While this fryer isnt what Id call pretty, its got a few design elements that make it look more attractive, like the rounded edges, the metal trim, and the dark gray surfaces that look understated and classic.
The front handles are plenty large, so theyre easy to grab and hold, which is great since food may need a little shake or stir during cooking. Theyre also a good shape and size to make it easy to pour food out of the basket after cooking. The fryer isnt overly tall, so it should slide easily under cabinets to stay on the counter when not in use.
The controls are simple to use, although I did have a few moments where I wasn’t sure what to do. A Start/Pause button let me pause the cooking on either side of the fryer, but when food on one side was finished sooner than I expected, I wanted to stop the cooking rather than pause it. The solution was to use the Time function to let the fryer know that the cooking time was done. While that worked well, it wasnt obvious at a glance.
I had to consult the manual to familiarize myself with the Smart Finish and Match options, but it was easy enough to set the cooking time and temperature.
Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer Upshot: 2 Baskets Are Better Than One
Again, this Ninja Foodi is more than just an air fryer. If you’re looking to dehydrate fruits for a good trail mix or reheat leftover fries, there are settings just for that. You can also roast chicken without heating up your home with the oven . And the temperature goes up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and you can set the timer for up to an hour at a time. Most air fryers only have timers for up to 25 minutes.
But here’s the thing: Depending on what you’re cooking or heating, you may be able to do two of these things at once. That’s because while most air fryers come with one basket, Ninja’s dual air fryer has two. That means you can cook two foods with completely different settings at the same time. You can roast a chicken in one basket while air-frying potatoes in another. Being able to cook almost an entire whole dinner with one gadget is a game-changer for my family.

You’ll Want To Keep The Space In Mind
The only downside is that this 8-quart Ninja Foodi air fryer takes up more space than other options, but it’s still compact for its quart size. It’s about 13 inches wide. We also considered the 4-quart Ninja Air Fryer, which has the same settings but only has one basket. For us, the two-basket option won out — and I’m glad it did.

Air fryers have gone from new and innovative to ubiquitous. But that doesnt mean theres nothing new to be found. This Ninja model solves the not-enough-space problem while also freeing cooks from having to choose whether the wings or the fries get air fried. The dual baskets, along with the ability to control the left and right side separately, means that either side can have its own time and temperature settings. Even better, though, are the Smart Finish and Match options.
With Smart Finish, the cook can set separate cooking times and temperatures for each basket, then let the machine handle starting the shorter cooking time so the two items finish at the same time. Of course, that doesnt help if the cook is guessing how long something will take, but its perfect when making family favorites, so the fish and chips are done at the same time.
The Match option simply repeats the settings from one side to the other. Its not an earthshaking innovation, but when a double batch of wings is in the fryer, its nice to be able to set the time and temp a single time, then start both at the same time. I noticed that the right side cooked just a little hotter than the left side. It wasnt a dealbreaker and the difference wasnt major, but it was enough to notice that foods on the right were slightly darker than those on the left.

The Ninja is a beautifully designed air fryer with a unique feature the ability to cook two foods at different temperatures at the same time. Each basket can hold a pound of food which makes this a great air fryer for feeding a family, whether everyone will eat the same thing or you need to make two different dishes to satisfy everyones preferences. Once you master the programming its easy to use, but theres a bit of a learning curve at the beginning. It will fry most things you throw into it with ease, with the exception of fries from scratch, and will do so quickly as theres no need to preheat.
However, this model isnt for you if youre tight for countertop space or want to roast a chicken in your air fryer. The Ninja Foodi 2 Basket Air Fryer is also quite pricey, costing about $60 more than our winner, the Cosori Smart Wifi Air Fryer 5.8qt, but if you think about it, you are getting two air fryers in one.
