Cooking Fish In The Ninja Foodi 8
I’ve become accustomed to using the best air fryers when cooking fish at home, so I tried the Ninja Foodi 8-in-1 Flip Mini Oven out on the air roast mode when cooking salmon.
Salmon is quite a fatty fish, so I’ve found that a lot of fat can drip away when cooking it in an air fryer. This happened with the Ninja Foodi 8-in-1 Flip Mini Oven too, and I was concerned that the juices dripping away would cause an issue if they fell directly onto the heating element.
The Ninja Foodi 8-in-1 Flip Mini Oven crumb tray sits underneath the heating elements, but they are guarded by a metal grated cover. You can put a drip tray underneath to prevent the fat from the salmon falling onto the elements.
You can illuminate the inside of the Ninja Foodi 8-in-1 Flip Mini Oven using a button the control panel, which made it easy to monitor it while it was cooking.
My salmon cooked in the same time as an air fryer, about 12 minutes in total, which is a lot less than if I’d cooked it in an oven. The fish was crispy and perfectly cooked, and there was no difference in cooking between the fish that was at the back of the oven, and the one at the front.
Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro
While the Ninja Foodi took the top spot in a majority of tests, the Breville nabbed a few titles, too, including the best broiled salmon and a dead tie in the cookie competition. It also kept an accurate and consistent heat throughout cooking and has an impressive air fryer function. This Smart Oven is also quite large, for better or worse, but that bulbous cooking capacity makes it a more versatile machine than the Ninja. You could easily cook a roast or whole chicken in the Breville, while the Ninja is simply not tall enough. It also has a boatload of features and presets bread proofing, dehydrate, pizza and so if you like bells and whistles, the Brevilles got em. Itll even switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius with the push of the button for folks who use that system. Ya know, everyone but us.
At $350, its by far the most expensive oven I tested, but the quality build and performance were commensurate. It is the one model on this that could pretty close to replacing your big oven altogether in case thats the goal or if you need something for a space without an existing oven.

How To Clean The Ninja Foodi Sp301
Thankfully, cleaning is not much of an issue with the Ninja Foodi Dual Heat Air Fry Oven.
After letting your toaster oven cool down, you can start cleaning the accessories. Wash the wire rack, air fry basket, and sear plate with warm soapy water, then thoroughly rinse and dry.
If you want to skip that part, the wire rack and air fry basket are dishwasher safe. However, washing those accessories by hand is still recommended to prevent them from wearing more quickly.
After dealing with those racks, you can wipe the interior walls with a damp sponge. For the exterior panels, a damp cloth will do the trick.
Pro Tip: Line the searing pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil to save on cleanup time.

How To Use The Adjustable Broil Mode
With the broiling method, food is arranged on the baking pan.
Close the door to the first notch, leaving a small gap at the top. This will ensure adequate airflow during broiling
Choose the broil mode.
Set desired temperature and timer.
Once timer is set, the top heating element will begin operating.
Halfway through the cooking cycle, turn the food over for better cooking and browning.

The digital controls are intuitive to program and theres a bright oven light. I do have one major quibble with this product.
The manual doesnt contain any recommendations for what, how much, or how long to cook various foods. This may not be a problem for baking or roasting, but if youre new to air frying, youre on your own as youre getting started. Also, keep in mind all of the parts require hand washing.

For baking mode, food is placed on the rack or in the baking pan.
Choose the convection bake or bake mode.
Set the desired temperature and time.
Once time is set, the top and bottom heating elements will be heated up.
As with all the other cooking modes, the heating elements will alternate between off and on to maintain desired temperature.
For the convection bake feature, the built-in fan will blow and circulate the hot air inside the cooking chamber.
The circulating hot air maintains a consistent temperature. This allows for better heating of the food as well as shortening of the baking time by as much as 30% in certain foods.
Baked foodstuff are best cooked using the convection bake mode.

This oven is significantly more expensive than our runner-up pick, and we realize the cost may be prohibitive for some people. Heres our advice: If you have high demands for this appliance to be both your air fryer and a great toaster oven, and if you can afford it, we think youll be happiest with the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro.
